So, I have a question for you Thane experts: Is he a Sentinel or a Vanguard?
We have two Vanguards in the squad already: Jack and Jacob. Miranda is the only Sentinel I can figure out. Which makes me think he's a Sentinel, too, but I'd like to be sure.
Is Jack a Sentinel? I thought she was an Adept, with the biotics. Thane couldn't be a Vanguard, he can't use shotguns, only sniper and SMG. Sentinel is closest, but I think he's in a class all by himself
Oh, and on topic....Mordin came up with a cure for a Collector plague in 2 weeks, and a defense against Collector swarms in about the same amount of time. C'mon Mordin, you can totally cure this!
Jack's a Vanguard. One of her 'advanced' powers you can choose to make her concentrate more on weapons or on biotics.
I'm thinking he's got to be a Sentinel, too.

I write him off as being in his own class, though.

That's the one I was talking about. Unless Bioware decides to undress him, it's up to each one's imagination.

Thane is one of my favourite squaddies and he had to prove his usefulness to earn that title. I'd like to see real discussion here on his own thread. Now, where is the Legion thread hmm...

Oh, so there *is* a Thane thread after all. Thane fans, why do you let the first impression on these boards be that Thane gets no love at all? (Unlike what I've seen so far on other more general non-Bioware forums. Thane is a fan favourite but it looks like anywhere but here?) All I see here is Tali, Tali, Garrus, Liara.. It's a very annoying shouting match.

I consider myself a fan and I feel like this thread has been kept more for people to sign in if they are in favor of a cure than to generally discuss about Thane.
Or maybe you're right? People should be more vocal about it?

Well, those characters you posted are all from ME1 and already had a large fanbase. But Thane is also one of my favorite(I like every character though).
And here's legions thread: http://social.biowar...5/index/1177099

inixirir, likewise, I also like every character. Thanks for the link.
To Hulluliini, I hate the word 'emo' and it's excessive misusage however I agree somewhat. 'What coulda been's with Thane is what makes me resent Bioware's "appeal to the masses" mind set even more. His badassery shines through his early dialogues well enough if you push his buttons, what with threatening Shepard ever so subtly and all... but does not as well carry into later dialogues.
Thane is probably the most mature character in the game despite his shortcomings though. He acknowledges his problems (problems that Bioware is in love with obviously - dead wife, problematic son - they exceeded themselves with that terminal illness on top of everything) but not wallow in them. He obviously bottles them up so crying (because of shame and pride, not misery) to the only person he considers a friend is only fair. I have no problems with that cutscene and mind you, he has no idea he's about to be sexed up by Shep at that point. Also if you're so against him crying, there's even a better choice there to stop him from doing that and not trigger sex. Not that I'm against crying, I'm against exhausting my Shep two hours before the final battle, yep.
From a "who makes you laugh more" pov though, Garrus is definitely better. I'd love it if Thane's playful side was explored even slightly in the game, maybe it will be once he's cured or something. However, I like Thane's approach to Shepard -an equal, rather than the legendary commander to look up to- better.

I will repost a message here, because I want opinions and Javier closed my topic.
----- We know that Kasumi has a skill that allows her to cloak, move behind a target, then reappear and attack. This is exactly something I hoped Thane had.
Bioware stated that Thane is an assassin that rather fights up close than from afar. So before ME2 came out, I was hoping for something like this, especially because Infiltrators could also cloak. But it turned out that Thane rather uses a sniper rifle and biotics, while in all the cutscene it's implied that Thane can hide(his loyalty mission, his recruitment mission, the CGI trailer).
I thought it was logical, as it would be hard to implement something like that to a squadmate. But now Kasumi has it. And I wonder why Bioware didn't gave something like this to their assassin. ------
Don't get me wrong, I think Thane is really useful in my squad. With his sniper and warp I take on most enemies. But I think the ability that Kasumi gets would suit Thane more. Opinions or am I the only one that thinks that?

I didn't know about this because I'm not interested in DLCs in general but... if there's one character that needs such special combat tricks it's Thane. If only for how Bioware promoted him - he was all about punches, kicks and sneaking - and none of it is in the actual gameplay.
"I thought it was logical, as it would be hard to implement something like that to a squadmate. But now Kasumi has it. And I wonder why Bioware didn't gave something like this to their assassin."
This. Thane is one of my faves for no small part due to his usefullnes in combat but I am very disappointed now. So they could do it for a squadie after all.

fiction and awesomeness. But as Shavon says, you can find them in the
dedicated groups. There's another one here: Neck Snap Appreciation Society. But I still think being a
bit more open about it is better. Maybe due to the unusual circumstances,
while the other characters' threads are about being present in ME3 and
all, with Thane getting him cured seems more important than the rest.
He is certainly not defined by his illness. I have no idea what are
Bioware's plans for him, but it feels so unfair to create a character
like that and then kill him off. Hoping that will matter, I keep saying
to cure him! And give him a happy ending with female Shepard.
Seeing him cry is definitely very touching and one of the reasons I like
him. He opens up to Shepard and by showing emotions it feels like a
deeper bond has been created between them, and is something that you
don't find with the others.

Thanks for the link, I might just take a look what's going on there -if I'm accepted that is-. But I'll still make my stand here, please excuse my stubbornness ^^ I think this thread is just as fine as any if the first post is just edited a little bit. To be honest, I never even considered his illness to be a big problem, let alone a defining character trait or whatever. I thought "hey, he's a LI, there's no way they're going to kill him because that's just too unfair". The only thing that his illness is good for is to make sure he's going to join you because he doesn't care about dying. Now that he did join you, there's no need for the illness. Tada!... no? Simple logic which may not prove to be that simple if Bioware doesn't think so. (And if their "listening to the fans" means listening to the fans on these boards, well, not good. Come on, I'm trying to lure people out here... this thread got me worried too though *looks for where to sign*)
Yes, about the crying - that was actually one hell of a crying as far as cryings go, without being 'emo' (ughh) and actually not cheapening the character at all. I don't have any problems with that scene like I said (well, aside from "zoom in on the pillows" part, how cheesy can you get?) My problems are elsewhere... mostly characterisation problems. Still loving and cherishing Thane though. Hell, this is a very long post.

Hopefully, we don't scare you away right off the bat, we're a pretty lively / kooky bunch and we most definitely are addicted to a certain Drell.
I don't presume to speak for all Thane fans, but from my own personal experience, Thane fans are much like Thane himself : quiet, sneaky, we lurk in the shadows, we're an incredibly devoted fanbase, we're just not terribly overt about it (which probably isn't a bad thing considering the backlash against the Tali threads). That's not to say people shouldn't loudly proclaim their Thane love - heck, I shout it from the rooftops usually!
I think it's short-sighted and depressing that alot of players instantly write Thane off / out and define him by his illness when he and his story encompases so much more, but it's their loss that they choose not to see beyond what's right in front of their face and appreciate the character for who he is and how he evolves. About a month ago there was alot of Thane hate (for whatever reason) and I think it turned a few of us off the main boards. In addition to him being described as 'emo' or 'a cry baby', well, after a while, I think most of us would rather be amongst like-minded people who see him as a strong, capable man who in the end, realizes his own mistakes and mortality and finds both understanding, friendship and love in Shepard.
I must be in the mood to write today since I'm writing a novel (and once you get me started on Thane, it's usually all I'll talk about for a while). In the end, we're here (and so is Thane I bet *waves to Keythe*), we're just hiding out in the vents.
And thanks for the comments on the video, glad you guys liked it!

Hmm I understand. But my point still stands. Like laradenton said, it'd be very nice to still use this thread to share fanart, fanfic etc. And discussions? I definitely do not suggest that Thane fans should go on a shouting match with others though, really annoying. And it really turns you off the character - so fans really don't do any favours to their favourites this way. One of the reasons I'd like to see a public thread active is for more... "casual"? fans like me. I had trouble finding fan art for example, I'm sure there are a lot of them in NSAS. Or I have a question/something to discuss but I have to join a private group for that? Also I believe the fans retreating to private groups leave the arena to the extremely loud and annoying minority. That's why my first impression was that Thane was not appreciated at all. I hope what I'm saying makes sense, I must be butchering English every now and again.
Anyway, just suggestions of course. Keythe? Isn't he the VA for Thane? Sorry, not very good with names. If so, *waves also* o hai thar... Umm again, sorry, I have voice fetish.

One good place to start is looking on deviantart.com. You may have to set up an account to view some of the stuff. If not, we can always post some awesome screenshots up here, too. I've got a pic of one of my Shepards cuddling with Thane I could post, possibly . . .
And don't apologize for the voice fetish, that is definitely one of the awesome things about Thane
