Your shepard looks good and those are nice pictures. Don't call him scooter. It reminds me of when Ashley calles Shepard skipper. I hated ever time said it in ME1. I hope she doesn't call you that in ME3.

It is a shame that Mshep gets a better romance than Femshep does. Although I did enjoy the romance with Garrus.

She only says it once. Although for me that was a bummer because I actually liked it - I thought it was cute *shrug*

As for me, my ME2 playthrough is going slower than expected due to work but I just picked up Thane. Just for my own reference, are there any tricky dialogue options to be careful with (i.e. in ME1 you could start or end a romance with an accidental dialogue choice) for romancing him, or pretty much what you see is what you get?

It's been awhile since I did any romancing in ME2 so I forget.

So a very interesting read on Chris L'Etoile's thoughts on changes made to Legion, EDI and the Reapers. No mention of Thane and Ashley, but I gather this informal interview was being presented with just those elements (Synthetics vs Organics, and such.....)

HTL link.

Oh, what might have been for ME3.  One of the things I really apppreciated about ME1 was the "hard" sci-fi aspect.  Sure, the Reapers were very alien and incomprehensible to us, but they were technology. None of this mystical mumbo jumbo that got added in ME3.  Though TBH ME2 started the trend with Project Lazarus and its religious resurrection overtones.

Happy (belated) New Year, Thane fans! Hopefully, it will be better than 2012.

Vlk3 wrote...
Does anyone know how unloyal Thane in ME3 behaves? Does he say something different? I never failed his loyalty mission (it would break my heart), so I don't know what changes. If it does change anything...

I never failed his loyalty mission either, but unloyal Thane can survive the SM under the right conditions. He does have some different dialogue in ME3 in that  case.

I have Thane's ME3 audio files but it's in random order so it's hard to know what pertains to what (romance/friend/failed LM).

I think these are his unloyal lines:

"I have family here that I must take care of, Shepard. I have neglected my son and now he is self-destructive."

"He may be safe from Reapers here, but I worry. If he dies...when he dies I want him to know he has a loving father."

"That means I must give things up for him. I'm sorry."

"Some people would find this uncertainty freeing. I contemplate what I have done." - I think he says this if unloyal  instead of "It's freeing to find no requirements placed on me. No responsibilities, no fears. It is a good end to a life."

"You wish, I pray. I appreciate the sentiment, Shepard. Until we meet again." - I think this is his goodbye, if unloyal

There might be some more during his death scene but that's harder to sort through. I think Kolyat's introduction changes a bit if Thane is unloyal ("I'm Kolyat Krios. I came by to pay my respects.") If you'd like a copy of the files so you can listen for yourself I will upload them for you. Warning: the death scene stuff is hard to listen to. I still get teary-eyed so I try to avoid it. /still bitter.

@Sable - you are not wrong about that (changes started in ME2). I love ME2 (the first ME game I started with), and you really should have seen my face when I saw the start of the "resurrection" (reminded me of the rebuilding of Leelou (sp) in The Fifth Element); o.O >.< XD LOL! And the fact of the matter is, Chris and a few others left while ME2 was still being finished up. There is a slight disconnect in some of the storylines, and I believe this shift in writers during ME2 leads to this disconnect.

ME2 really was about the characters, and THAT is what they should have focused on when it came to storylines in me3 involving said characters. This may sound obvious, and it clearly WAS something they thought of (Tuchunka and Rannoch being good examples), but they sputtered out or just shut down when it came to the majority of the other characters. This also bled into the ME1 characters as well (looking at the VS as a prime example). Truth be told, I love an interesting main storyline, but the rules of KISS should have been more evident with that main tale, and everything else should have focused on the characters. There were so many good ways to involve them all in both their own personal story arcs AND their relation to Shep and the main storyline. *sigh/shrug*

**EDIT**

*Waves to Julia_xo*  Might want those files at some point.....I'll give ya a PM.  Happy New Year to you too!Posted Image

@ Julia_xo Thanks. Happy New Year to you, too.
This is what I wanted to see. Though I think I'm going to need this audio files if its' not a problem.
I asked the question, because I'm wondering if I can say that I could as well fail Thane's loyalty mission and the outcome would be the same. From what I see here, Thane gives much better reason to stay on the Citadel if he is unloyal. Actually, he seems a bit happier than in ME2 after LM failure. Despite some different lines, in all versions Thane seems to don't care about the war and its possible consequences and is ready to die. Also, he talks with Kolyat anyway and is somehow reunited with his son, so again his LM didn't really matter. Of course, he is romancable after its success, so for romancers it is relevant, but non- romancers.. well, nothing changes at all, despite few dialogs. ;/

I like Ashley's nickname for Shepard as well. It's kind of sweet how Chris' characters all have their unique way of
referring to Shep:

Ash: Skipper
Thane: Siha
Legion: Shepard-Commander (wut? This totally counts!)

Not that I recall. I know that the romance trigger reads as "I want you, Thane" on the dialogue wheel. It's all pretty straight-forward from what I remember, including the break-up options. Let us know how it goes! :) I really love Thane's ME2 romance and it'll always have a special place in my heart despite what happened in ME3. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it!

I wish he never left BioWare.  I find it interesting what he wrote about a higher-up thinking it would be "cool" if Legion was obsessed with Shepard so he was forced to write it in even though it conflicted with his own thoughts on how the character would act. It makes me wonder if there was interference regarding his writing of Thane as well. There's so much I'd love to ask him! He seems really knowledgeable and I strongly suspect ME3 would have been a more interesting and consistent game if he'd still been there and been given some freedom. As opposed to having some guy in a suit breathing down his back about what would be "cool".

I feel like Thane's death in ME3 was supposed to be someone's idea of 'cool' (ninja fight lyke OMG!) but it was just insulting.

@Cold and Vlk3 I will PM you the files once I've uploaded them. :)

That's a very good find. It seems Chris didn't really agree with the rest of the writers, or more specifically, the decision makers. I'm looking there for some information about his view on Thane, but for now, I found nothing. There is one more thing he says about the ending and I agree:

"I can't help but think the ending would have been just fine if they'd ended it right before Shepard got taken up to heaven
took the elevator to space kid. I know some of the story behind it now
(only a bit, and no, I can't talk about it), but have this strange
feeling someone said, "This ending needs big decision. Something that
will affect the future of the entire galaxy! Add that in, plz.""

Skipper just sound to like a nickname for a kid to me. Maybe it's because I have never really liked Ashley. It's not a bad it just isn't my favorite of all of Shepards nicknames.

I love when Thane calles Shepard Siha, and I like legions name for Shepard. I also like Kasumi's name for Shepard as well. I don't even mind much when James calls you Lola. I can't remember if Shepard has anymore nicknames.

I do wish Chris had stayed.

Well, it's not a particularly creative nickname (since he *is* the skipper of the Normandy in ME1 for most of the game), but more the fact she uses it to express her affection for him - she calls him Commander/sir otherwise. It's part of the sassy but affectionate personality that made me like Ashley.

If you don't like Ashley, I get why it might not mean much, but having her say it only once (in a non-romantic way) was annoying to me in the way it would be to you if Thane called Shepard by her name in ME3 for the entire game instead of siha. The only thing they seemed to get out of Ashley from ME1 was "likes poetry" and "close to her family", although she does have some bugged dialogue which would have helped.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anyway back to Thane - thanks for the pointer of which conversation to look out for, sounds like even I won't be able to botch it, which is good. Hopefully I can make some progress over the next day or so, so I can build up sufficient nerd rage about Thane's fate in ME3 for posting fun. :bandit:

As many here know, I adore Ashley, so her "skipper" line is silly/cute to me. I connect with her, not because I believe in the same things she does (regarding religion, for example), but because she HAS thoughts/opinions, and she isn't afraid to express them to Shepard. She is a stronger flavor than some characters, and that makes her more appealing to me. Yet at the same time, she is also a very normal/average/believeable soldier. What a compelling mix. :D

I would like to know his thoughts also. I can't image what he must of thought about it.

@Belisarius25
I understand what you are saying and I do agree.
I think Ashley just made a bad first impression on me in ME1. I was going to give the character another chance in ME3, but some have said that they didn't do that great of a job with her in ME3. Outside of a romance I guess she doesn't have that much to say.

Honestly, I liked Ash in ME3. I thought the hangover scene was as funny as the emergency induction port (well that was funnier) but otherwise neither VS really got crap and I think Ash got less. And this is from a non-romanced perspective. Can't imagine how bad it was for a romanced Ash. But hell, at least she's alive and hungover, ya know.

Mostly depends on why you didn't like her the first time,  I guess. If you went through all her dialogues and didn't like her, well the ME3 Ashley is very different (much more calm/quiet type). But, yeah, not a whole lot to say, mostly (from what I can gather) because they counted stuff like the Mars scenes as content <_<

If you didn't really do much with Ashley's dialogue in ME1 and want to give the character another shot I'd say to do so in ME1 (or to watch a video of her romance on youtube if you don't want to play through the game), she was really well written - thanks to Chris. Since then they basically focused on "I have trust issues" (Which was fine in ME2 but should have been resolved there) and poetry/family, but little else.

If it helps, I know a lot of Ashley (and Kaidan for that matter) fans who deeply sympathize for the treatment Thane got...the leaked ME3 scripts that came out basically had "KILL THE VS" flashing signs, so we got lucky to get what we did.

Anyway, back to my playthrough. I found a save file on a different Shepard and started the romance, hopefully my crew isn't liquifying at the Collector base for nothing

I really, really liked Ashley. I know she rustled some people’s jimmies but I liked that she had firm opinions on certain things even if my shep didn’t always agree with them. Out of all the ME1 characters, I enjoyed talking with her the most on the Normandy. She was another badass tomboy to talk to and her conversations felt the most personal to me. She and shep can share old bootcamp stories, tease each other about blokes and have some really great banter together

“If you tell me to kiss a turian, I’ll ask which cheek”

“I don’t think kissing turians will be necessary”

“Never know commander”

Which was FANTASTIC to hear during my shakarian playthrough ^_^

Also her backstory always added another angle to the virmire situation for me. The fact that she felt she had to redeem her family’s honour during shepard’s decision. It gave you an alternate dialogue option in the briefing room which I appreciated .Saving her then and telling her off for wanting to sacrifice herself was a deep moment even if it was brief.

She really is a great character , which is why I was so very sad that she had barely any dialogue on the Normandy. I wanted to chat with my favourite gal pal who I have missed for one and a half games! We had no much catching up to do but it seems her conversations were either bugged or cut. Chris leaving also (as beli says above) impacted her personality and she seemed reduced to “the old squad mate that doesn’t trust you”. Such a shame.

Also a poster has asked why shep and friends did nothing during the fight scene on the story and campaign portion of the forum .  I added my 2 cents.

I love Ash. I just...don't like her ME3 incarnation. I have sort of the same feelings on Miranda's ME3 treatment, where the writers took one aspect of the character (for Ash, her mistrust of Cerberus and for Miri her sister) and made it into the entire freaking character.  It'd be like if Garrus only ever complained about C-Sec or if Thane never talked about anything other than Kepral's.

Personally, it just grated worse with Ash than Miranda because Ash was actually a squad member, and she should've had more time and dialogue than that one-note characterization.  Miri at least had the excuse of a limited role in the game.

I'm lucky, I guess, since I never got a chance to see Ash in me3 (and barely any of Miranda). So I can continue to love what I know of them from the previous games. Now if only it could have been that way Shepard and Thane. :P

I saw ME3 Ash with both ManShep (previously romanced, ended up with Miranda) and FemShep, and could hardly stand her in either game.  For my final playthrough of the series with MEHEM, I wound up killing Ash off on Virmire so I could hang out with Kaidan in ME3 and leave Ash in ME1 where I really liked her.

I also killed off Thane and Jacob on the Collector Base when I last played.  I figure giving them epic exits in ME2 at least does them some justice, more than ME3.

^^can't argue with that. I was one of those in favour of going out in a blaze of glory, with Thane at my side.

Well, we all know the absolute opposite of that happened.

As for Ash, after I shoved my foot up her ass on Mars everything seemed okay. I mean really, it's not like you could have a decent conversation or anything. I'm actually amazed that they chose something as humiliating (yet somehow funny and humanising) as being passed out and miserable on the floor to use as an actual conversation cut scene. Really?

At least Kaidan had more lines than her. Kinda. I MISS that part of ME2. You remember...running around after every mission to see who actually had something to say...and they actually said something. And poor Kaidan, he sounds stoned most of the time. Must be the migraines.

and grrrrr...I may have enjoyed my DudeShep playthrough significantly more than my FemShep, but I really still find very little redeeming about this game. I LOVE my SteveShep. I really do, but this game lacks everything that made ME1 & ME2 awesome.

In comparison, pac man is a better RPC with fully fleshed out characters, romance and storyline.

@Sable - I can see how making those choices could help.

For me, I'll just choose not to play me3, and over time, what I saw with Shep and Thane, will continue to diminish. I can play both ME and ME2 and become immersed in both of them. As for how things conclude, I make up my own story deciding what happens after ME2. Admittedly, it still saddens me that I couldn't take that last part of the journey WITH BioWare, but so be it.... *sneaky grin*

I am interested to learn what this next (last?) DLC will be, but hold little hope that it will entice me to finish playing me3. But I am quite the cat (curiousity-wise)....... :D
