Shep nicknames my favorite was in ME3 Vega calls dude Shep Loco which was really awesome I thought because Sheps Crazy, and so am I ask any of my friends.
I liked Kasumi's nickname too Shep.
@Belisarius25 I agree with you on Ash so much and I haven't heard her bugged dialogue I've heard of it but not heard it.
I wrote a whole huge thing on my tumblr awhile back about Ashley and why I loved her so much in ME1 and ME2 anyway Coldi outlined much of it so I'll just add this she's also like the ME version of Michelle Rodriguez oh yeah.
@Hyrule_Gal again agreed on the Ash thing about Virmire. Damnit buttware you screwed over my Sheps closet human friend in ME3 poor Ash uggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh.
@Mnomha yeah I too really enjoyed ME2 going and talking with the characters after every mission
Speaking of Ash and that and what not, in ME1 the characters I enjoyed talking to the most were Wrex and Ash, which speaking of Ash and me liking her so well in that thing I did on my tumblr I covered why I never had her as my default canon ME1 romance in short it was because my first time I played ME1 she got left on Virmire I sent Kiadan with Kirrahe thinking they were all going to die but then I had to chose to pick Ash or Kiadan up and I chose to go get the salaraians but they were all dead and so I got stuck with the dull pretty boy my first time through and romanced the blue berry.
Oh and @giftfish ugggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh I get what you're saying it's either one is alive and as far as the rest goes nope nope they are totally different characters just like Kiadan and Ash. And there is my problem I have people don't write Ashley/Kidan and when they do it upsets a whole slew of fans and as such it's always been a peeve of mine when I see Samara/Morinth.
Anyway I'm gonna go get some sleep night all.

Also, that love scenes should be about more than "You're really awesome Shepard and I want to bond/have sex with you". Thane showing actual emotion about what he's feeling makes the scene work for me in the same way Ashley's clumsy exposition to explain why Shepard means what he does to her ("you make me feel good enough" is almost as sad as it is sweet), that stuff has so much more of an impact with me.
After seeing he wrote ME2 Legion as well and seeing what happened in ME3 ("The Geth must make their own future" -> "Reaper Upgrade ftw"!, not being honest to Shepard about what he's doing), I think I underestimated how much his leaving affected the series. It certainly seems to have affected his three characters quite negatively.
---
Edit: someone mentioned not having seen/heard Ashley's bugged dialogues; they wouldn't have fixed everything (at least for a non-romanced Ashley), but they would have helped. Linking them below (Saito404 from this forum has them on his youtube, so thanks to him!)
http://www.youtube.c...iew=0&flow=grid
(Bugged lines at the memorial - story she tells her sister)
- (bugged dialogue with Liara upon rejoining the Normandy)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMH4x5jYbsQ (bugged line at date scene, requires (faithful?) ME1 romance - it's the one about Shepard's bruises [
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEvm8_ytFBY (Additional playful banter during the sex scene, requires (faithful?) ME 1 romance)
Also there's this nice conversation most people never see because it requires doing the missions a bit out of order, here's Ashley talking to Tali if they were at the Tuchanka: bomb quest

Lol, sorry, dear, didn't mean to ruffle your feathers. I think people might interpret Ash and Kaidan a bit differently in the sense that you can essentially go through most of ME1 with both of them; they aren't mutually exclusive. They are both simultaneous squad members.
Samara and Morinth are completely different in this respect. You start out with Samara by default, and you can only gain Morinth if you choose to kill Samara (who would ever do THAT!?!?). In that way, they are mutually exclusive. They are never a part of the same squad at the same time. Which is why folks refer to them in an interchangeable" manner.
But, that isn't to imply that their *character* is interchangeable at all. They are certainly not the same in any way shape or form. Not even close, lol.

Thane's romance scene in ME2 was great, too, but now that we talk about it, I sometimes wonder if anyone else was annoyed by Shepard's line: "Be alive with me tonight." I mean yeah it was kind of sweet and she probably was trying to say something like "we don't have much time together, but let's not dwell on it; let's make the best out of what little time we have." But really, the first time I played that scene, that line made me half smile, half cringe. To me, it felt like Shepard could think of nothing else to say than "oh you so silly, stop crying and let's have sex." That was one of the few moments in ME2 when I felt like I didn't have enough control over my Shepard (the other dialogue option isn't much better, and it makes Thane leave). I wanted my Shepard to at least sit Thane down and tell him he has nothing to be ashamed of, before throwing herself at him, lol. I also hated the "don't give me a speech" line. I didn't want to interrupt him; I didn't want him to feel like he should be ashamed of opening up to Shepard. Overall, I think Thane's romance scene is awesome and well written, but I just feel like it could do with more dialogue options for Shepard.
But now I'll be going to continue my first ME1 playthrough! I've recruited everyone except Liara, and I've liked the game so far. I hated Kaidan in ME2-3 but he seems quite nice in this game. I actually giggled when he accidentally called my Shepard beautiful. XD I think I might give his romance a go after all...
PS. Now that I've read all three parts of Thane's FF, I want to say to all those who worked on it that you did really great job! It was interesting to have a deeper look at the survey results, and all the issues in Thane's ME3 romance were wrapped up satisfyingly. I was also happy to be reminded that majority of the players (according to the survey) want Thane alive, even though it sometimes feels like majority wants him dead. So once again, great job with the FF -- let's hope the effort pays off!

Omg I flipping HATED that line. That is the one line where I have issues with Mr E'toile. It was too cheez-whiz for me. What *should* have happened, is the discussion should have lasted longer, and then we should have gotten a "real" romance scene a la ME1! /nod
Writing those 3 pieces was like giving birth. I am officially sick of talking about Thane right now. I am more sick of writing this point that I ever was during my Master's Thesis, which is pretty funny. Ugh. I think I'm just better at the "science writing". Very dry, analytical, etc. Anyway, I'm starting to get pretty burnt out so hopefully I can keep the quality from suffering too much. Sometimes as I'm editing them I get to certain parts and I wonder what the heck I was thinking when I wrote something, lol...
Only 5 more LIs to cover for the blog. Arg.
So glad you enjoyed them, though. I bet you will be one of the few who will actually take the time to read through all 3 installments, LOL.

This bothered me so much. I did like the warmer side to Legion's personality when interacting with Shep and crew, but I think it would've been possible to show that kind of fellowship without anthropomorphizing Legion. And certainly without the Reaper upgrade. The more I think about it, the more I think the Rannoch mission was supposed to make the player more comfortable with the idea of using the Reapers (Control and Synthesis).

You are not the only one. It is a little cheesy, and I'm not sure if it's anyones favorite.
I try to tune it out when I hear it, but other than that the dialogue during the romance is great. I probably would have given Shepard something else to say.

At first I found it cheesy but then I thought it was another example of shep using Thane's language. Like when they talked about kolyat she asked "where has his body willed him?" I found it cute that she spoke to him like that. So "be alive with me tonight" I assumed she meant be "awake" with her.
Thane AND shepard expressed that they were "dead" for a while. In shep's case it was literal and in Thane's case it was metaphorical. So asking him to "be alive" with her made sense when I applied it to that conversation.
Also after what happened in ME3 that scene became less cringey.

I always feel so intimidated, posting in this really tight-knit community. I've been following this thread much more closely since I've been promoting my fanfic week to week, and I've learned so much. The Focus Friday articles were brilliant, and the link to Chris L'Etoile's insights on ME3 swallowed up my whole morning today, discovering the Hold The Line forums and his Wikia page, ha ha ha.
But I feel compelled to emerge from lurking to promote my Thane romance story ("The Phenomenology of Shepard"), because I really want you all to like it! I just updated with chapter 3, which is somewhat saucier than the previous two. This chapter is called "The Prodigal", for the themes running through Miranda's, Garrus', and Thane's loyalty missions. The story is a longform fic of Mass Effect 2 that deals with the motifs of memory and death in the femShep/Thane romance.
It's rated M for language and mild sexual content.

An interesting interpretation. When you put it that way, the line doesn't sound that bad... Although I still feel like Shepard should give Thane some more time before rushing to seduce him.Hyrule_Gal wrote...

@Elana.S I've been reading your fic and I'm glad you promote new chapters here since otherwise I'd probably forget to check on new chapters. I like your writing style and the subtle humor in the fic, and I'm almost jealous of how well you describe Thane and your Shepard, their thoughts, and the development of their relationship. On the other hand, it kind of inspires me to try harder with my own fic(s) lol.

As for the romance scene dialogue, I have personally done the following romances in ME2 : Thane, Jack, Miranda, Tali, and Liara (for LotSB with M!Shep). Since it has been a while since I played some of those romances though, I looked all of them up (including Garrus and Jacob) on YouTube. With the exception of Liara's romance from the DLC (which was actually pretty romance heavy, if you had been romancing her), they ALL lacked exploratory dialogue in that final romance scene. I guess I never really payed attention to that aspect. Part of it is probably due to the fact that I rarely deviate from the Thane romance. As you can see, all my other romances have been with my M!Sheps, and the simple truth is, as much as I love my broSheps, I "connect" exceedingly more with my Fem!Sheps.
The point though is, it would have been nice to extend the climax of the romance arcs, with one or two more dialogue options. Nothing earth shattering, just a few more lines related to how your Shepard feels about this step in their relationships, or a chance to tease more info from our would be "mate". I shouldn't complain though, I DID enjoy Thane's romance, and it was very nice to romance a character that was a bit different than some of the previously romanceable characters (him having been married, has a child, is older then most of the previous LI's in BW games.....Liara notwithstanding since she is considered "young" for an Asari.)

....where wuz I?.....right! So, my problem is, do I play this character with all my current knowledge, experience and know-how, or do I use a younger version of myself (and it goes without saying, "recall" to days when I was actually single). The reason for posing such questions is because, I want to stay true to who I am, but my current state of living isn't exactly "free to choose" of many things. My idea is to imagine myself as I was in my early thirties, and (of course) remembering when I was NOT married (duh).....BUT still keeping some of my current "sensibilities" in tact when making various choices. DAMN! Am I making any feckin' sense?!!?!?! The point is, how would all of YOU choose to play such a play through. AND, have you ever done a "true" "self" play through before. If you have (or have thoughts/opinions) please express in detail, should you be so moved to do so....
