@JECW I read that, too. I guess we should be glad he bothered to respond, but his attitude still rubs me the wrong way. It's like he still thinks that anyone who wants Thane alive, no matter why or how they want him alive, falls to the group of "stupid fangirls".

I admit, I once believed that an option to save Thane would be too much to ask for, and that I could, or should be satisfied if we just got more and better content with him. But after realizing how much different cures were foreshadowed and how unfair it was to kill Thane when everyone else got an option to be saved, etc etc, I changed my mind. I think that if Gaider had all the knowledge about Thane that is available, he might agree with, or at least understand those of us who want an option to save Thane. Perhaps he would still think it is fine to create a tragic and bittersweet romance, but I doubt even he could excuse all those hints about the cure. On the other hand, he does seem to ignore how stupidly Thane went away even if not romanced... :pinched:

I agree with all of what you said, goes to show what little knowledge he has about Thane. And what little to no support we get from BW...just because we want to have a choice to save Thane.

Well, well, well. I actually got a reply from Gaider on tumblr regarding his post. Was certainly not expecting it. This is it.

Hi there— sorry, but I did not read your essay. You seem to be under the impression that I said *all* people who are upset about the Thane romance feel that way because they cannot cure him. All I said is that there are people who feel such— there are, and I’ve seen the sentiment posted numerous times.

If you and/or others feel differently, that’s fine. Nothing to do with my statement, sorry.

Take care,

Dave

Okay. First thing I mentioned the essay just to give a reason as to why I have been deconstructing the Thane Krios character arcs.

As to the rest of it, I kinda still feel like he isn't getting the point, or that he even read my letter. He seems to be focusing on the fact that a "cure" is what some people desired, and completely ignoring the fact that there is no cure in established lore.

All in all, this is just making me sad.

And I don't have any Thane piccies to post cause I had to take them off the laptop harddrive.

Oh, wait, hold on a sec. Plushie photos!

He seems to be focusing on the cure while ignoring everything else others have said.
I haven't seen one post where someone said the only reason they were upset is because they couldn't cure Thane. That just isn't true and I don't know why he keeps saying it. I posted a thread myself that was written by Visii and she wrote in depth what was wrong with the romance. I guess he missed that along with countless others saying the same thing. For some reason he just keeps focusing on that cure. Completely missing and not addressing the many other things wrong with the romance.

He seems to have no clue about ME or Thane's romance. Maybe that's why he keeps focusing on the cure. If thats the case then maybe he should just stop making comments when it comes to ME.

Here is another pic of Thane with my Shepard that Sorael-Ignis made for me last year.

Hello all!

I'll weigh in the Gaider stuff - at least he's admitted that he didn't read the letter (myth), and that he isn't involved in ME at all. I understand him using ME as an example of potential "romances gone bad" or perhaps too many - it was definitely odd in ME3. And there are those very vocal people that wanted Thane to live. Sure it would have been nice but it's really his lame death that we have issues with. That being said, he is the lead writer for DA, not ME, and I'm sure has not put in the number of hours and playthroughs we have. I thought the fact that he replied and apologized for making it seem like he was lumping everyone together was well done. He just as easily could have ignored the replies.

I don't know why he felt the need to use ME and Thane as an example. He's a DA writer and doesn't know much about ME so he should have used DA instead. I still haven't found one person who has said that the only reason they are upset is because they couldn't save Thane. We have a problem with Thane's romance in general and that is the point he seems to be missing.

I agree with you, although DA didn't have the same backlash.  And both were contained stories, so there really isn't an opportunity there to use an example.

I'm just saying that at least he acknowledged that he wasn't referring to the entire fanbase and actually said "sorry".

I do understand what you are saying.
When he says that their are some that are just upset just becasuse they couldn't cure hane I have no idea who he is talking about, and I'm not sure he knows. I don't know any memeber of this fanbase that is just upset because they couldn't cure him. So I have to wonder what portion of the fanbase he is talking about since most if not all of us are upset about more than just the fact that we couldn't cure him.

Probably because he was talking about romance varieties in the blog post.  Even if it's poorly written in ME3, Thane's romance does represent an example of an unhappy romance.  He also brought up Morrigan in the same post.  Really, his comments are simply a poorly worded generalization of a fandom.  I see the same kind of generalization about the Miranda fans tossed around all the time (especially in regards to the forum shutdown) and they're largely untrue.

I don't see people in this thread (and the old Thane thread) upset solely (or even mostly) over the cure, but it's definitely a sentiment that existed right after ME3.  Giftfish should correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it turns up in the Cosmic Love survey, for example.

Hey, they're both sexy.

I've been back on TOR recently since it went FTP, and Gideon Emery is all over that game.  I'm on Hoth right now, and I do a double take every time this Imperial officer opens his mouth and Fenris's voice comes out.  CANNOT UNHEAR.

@Sable - LOL. I still giggle when I hear Gavorn in ME2, or the turian C-SEC officer in ME (when doing the side quest to get the undercover informant out of Chora's den...forgetting names at the moment).

I'm such a sucker for "fine" voices. :D :D
