HOMG discussion! *jumps in*
I suggest replace Thane with Kolyat
in ME3 but only for those who want it - or think they're replacable. But
no cheating, Kolyat will be Kolyat with all his talents (or lack there
of). Then watch Kolyat charge and stumble and get himself killed within
the first second. Poor kid really doesn't deserve this.
Don't say it... not even as a joke.

Why not? As long as you're not on the "bring Kolyat instead of Thane - problem solved!" ship, you're safe. It's a good punishment.

I should stop clicking reply and wait for an hour to post
it... Anyway, about his ilness. I'm really going to throw up if he dies
heroically, tragically or whatever. There must be a legal limitation to
melodrama seriously but I really do not expect ME to go that way - now
*that* would cheapen everything that it is for me.
If there are people who
think Thane's illness defines him, I say they missed all about the
character. Thane's illness only matters in storyline if you romance him
and thus, becomes an important problem but still far from an urgent
one. Actually when I didn't romance him, I
forgot all about his ilness. I assume people who say this are mainly
people who don't romance him right? -Because those who do actually
want a cure- So how is it possible to focus on a sidenote (since he brushes off Shep's attempts interfere) that character
himself does not focus on and make it the very definition of
who he is?
Yeah, I really don't understand the whole "he's defined by his illness"-thing either. Would you say that about people who are terminally ill in real life? Is there no point to them if they would get cured of their illness? I think they would disagree.
However, I can see that Thane might not want to be cured if you didn't romance him, but that's different.

About Kolyat – maybe they can replace Shepard with Conrad Verner – he already has the armour.

Perhaps Thane would be immune to that, but it would still have been fun to try.
From what I see, Thane seems to be amused by that. "A start? Thats... "chuckle* intriguing" must be my favourite part of his romance.
Agreed! I would have liked more of that sort.
And I do think FemShep has the right to make some comment about his outfit.

Sry, I'm pretty pessimistic about the whole thing, especially after what was done to Kaidan, Liara and Ash. So, of course, I WANT to see Thane in ME3, either to finish the romance arc started in [art 2, or as a squadmate who stays on, if they decide to go that route. I'll be happy with either, at this point.
As far as Kolat joining Shepard's team . . . I don;t know the bad ending of Thane's loyalty mission, (not the one where he gets a way, but the one where Shepard does not use persuasion in the follow-up conversation with Bailey), so unless that ending has Kol ending up in prison, it would be possible. I wouldn't be against it, but certainly not as a replacement for Thane.
And Conrad can stay as far away from the Normandy as possible, imo.

I tend to take it as bad news that Thane is one of the easiest to kill off in the suicide mission. Either two things we can gather from this: 1. Bioware wanted to see hw the fans responded to him and the more who purposely saved him, the more likely they would be willing to carry him over to mE3, or 2. They had no intention of seeing Thane survive beyond ME2

Then I will comfort you!
I think people looking for "signs" as to one thing happening or another in the third game are reading too much into things. I agree that Bioware probably don't intend for all ME2 characters to make it to ME3, and will judge based on the fans to some extent, at least with characters that don't have any impact in the story as such.
However, as far as I have gathered this is hardly a problem for Thane, he's been successful with appealing to both male and female players, it's just that these boards are hijacked by rampant Tali fanboys (no offense to people who like the character, but they are starting to scare me).
And I honestly don't believe Kaidan/Ash and Liara's appearance in ME2 gives away anything about their role (or anyone elses) in ME3. I won't sell Bioware short before I got the proof (ME3) in my hands.

Arahlene, I hope you're right! If I can have Thane, Liara and Kaidan in my squad for ME3, I'll take every negative comment back from this forum I've ever made!!

Haha, the possibilities seem endless!
I agree with you though, I have major issues with deciding how my first playthrough is going to be romance-wise (though I never understood the appeal of Liara so that cuts down on the options slightly).
I can only safely say that there will never be a Shepard that is single before ME2 (or 3 for that matter!) starts, I always fall into the romance trap, no exceptions.
(Actually, that's not true. I never managed to complete the romance with Carth in KotOR, I was too busy working my way back to being Darth Revan. Muahaha!)

My biggest hope is that fanservice to female gamers won't end with Thane, and certainly not on a bad note!!
Also, that Bioware will finish what they started, with Kaidan, cure Thane, have amazing follow-up in ME3, one way or an other.
I hope so!!

I've decided I have to show a little
support for Thane. He's quietly awesome. He's a zen killer. I wonder if
he's always been that way or if that's just an artifact of him making
peace with his inevitable death.
Anyway, the ME universe is
better with him in it.
He has been always very quiet with his profession and all. Always lurking in the shadows and never standing out in the crowd.

yea ME2 could definitely use this DLC. In fact a DLC that just adds to companion dialogue all together would be great seeing has how much it is lacking in ME2.
Maybe they can have that desert vacation on the DLC, that would be cool. Or add the things Shepard and Mordin say is on the computer but isn't like.... well...... the vacation brocures for one or the inter species tips.....even if the only description is "tips for human drell relations." Would be nice to giggle at.

Don't get your hopes up too fast. It's still a rumour and if they decided to do it, they need to make it first(and ofcourse they need to figure what to do with it).
I would love to see something like this, but I'm not expecting anything soon.
