The problem with the data numbers that have been thrown around in the past, is that I don't think we have ever been shown the source. When asked about these numbers (past ones from the previous game, or current ones for me3), we are usually told that the info is for "internal use only", or something to that effect.
Of course, I haven't seen numbers that clearly show them as false, but it does make me wary as to how this information was gathered. Take me, for example. When I first started playing ME, my xbox didn't have an internet connection (we were using our phone hotspots for online activity, and my old xbox didn't come with wifi). I am hardly a unique snowflake in this situation, so then we have to imagine that online data collecting while good, isn't entirely thorough (though I suppose nothing really is). As for online surveys, again, plenty of people who don't take them, didn't know about them, or have access to them. Since I would assume that they would be using multiple forms of data gathering, I would be curious what surveys (if any) counted. And were said results of surveys ever released?
Bah, all I know is what happened to those that played fem!Shep, and didn't choose Garrus, Kaidan or a lesbian/bi relationship. What really stands out is the treatment (yes, that word again) of a portion of the fanbase, small(er) notwithstanding, we have money.....we are of an economic concern. Just losing out on LI's doesn't seem like much of a bother. BUT, with a game like this, it most certainly CAN be a "game" changer to some of the female market that play these games. Especially when it does start to reflect the differences between a M!Shep and a F!Shep as PC gamers can play as.
