And apparently Jack was confirmed by Chris on his twitter.

So how is confirming Thane and Jacob spoilerish again?

It isn't spoilerish.
I think they were just lying when they said that. They are just avoiding the question so they don't have to deal with us.
There is no reason not to tell us if he is in the game or not.

Yeah, I was just being fatisious.

This really sucks. Even though this DLC might give me oodles of Garrus I'm not happy. Not because of my choices, but because I'm a female player. We really got shafted, even if Garrus was a great romance.

I bet they throw out a holovid of Thane and other squaddies talking about him and they have Jacob kicked in the groin and all call it a day. Stuff that should have been in the original game. And then everyone else get extra content.

I still think though Liara's going to get those silly kids and everyone else gets crumbs.

@Sable...20%? that sounds really low. I wonder if the data method was the same as their ME3 information that Jessica "can't" release.

*moons Coldi and runs off again* Fear me!!!!

Link to the article on BioWare's ME2 data.  I'd assume this is all from online play: users who are on Xbox Live, or PC gamers who allow BioWare to access their play data.

There's no reason to assume they're lying, even if as coldi pointed out, the method of collection is imperfect.  They're only biting themselves in the ass if they use inaccurate data to inform design choices.

Yeah, that 80% of players played as male Shepard really tells you nothing about those who played female Shepard.

It's a very misleading statistic, as it leads the viewer to conclude that it's a zero-sum game, which it isn't -- they are presenting data for players for multiple PTs.  They simply did not include any data regarding the percentage of players who ALSO played as female Shepard, and making an assumption that it is 20% (100-80) is incorrect.

Literally all this tells us is 80%  of players had a PT with male Shep -- it does not say that 80% of players played ONLY male Shep(thereby leaving FemShep players as the lowly 20%).

One thig I've learn from summarizing the data from our survey, is that it is very easy to mislead people, or push them into a certain impression, by presenting the information in a specific manner.  I try my best NOT  to do this.

This.  @giftfish - the statistician extraordinaire - is much better at pointing out the lack of info we were given. Now this isn't to say that they didn't extrapolate more numbers that could be used to determine where they should put their time and money, but we can only go by what we are shown.  And this is less than impressive. Also, those that presented these statistics (possibly J Merizan?? unsure....) to the community, may not really understand what these numbers represent, as @giftfish was pointing out.  Thus, they could become misleading, even if not intentionally misleading.

As for the "spoilery" bit......Posted Image Stone face. I got nothing.  This is neither enlightening, nor disheartening.  It is nothing.  At least to me.  So, I guess we shall see, when we see.  Here is hoping someone with a Thanemance play through posts something on YouTube, shortly after release.Posted Image

Not at all :P and I'd rather they just say because it means we have to endure more weeks of "Well U NEW He waz gonNa Dye" all over the forum while we wait and speculate. Also I have to LOL at the people who say "You might be able to talk to Kolyat!" like that's JUST as good  Yeah uh huh, tell me how the Miri fans would feel if it turns out they could only talk to Oriana in the DLC cos Miranda was "too busy" hahaha. The description says "time with your LI" not son or best friend  folks , Thane fans have every right to expect the same and they deserve it.

I agree
I don't want to talk to Kolyat. That should have been something we did in ME3.
Like another letter or talking to Kolyat is going to make up for not being able to talk to Thane.

@JECW If they give us a letter and that's it,I will flip tables...and all of you are invited to join me!

I feel like we're all going to get nothing, which is what I'm prepared for. I haven't played any SP DLC and won't be starting with this. I love Thane as a character, and the effort put into him in ME2 shows. The lack of effort put into him in ME3 also shows. I'm guessing we won't get any resolution on any of our concerns.
And yes, the "he was dying" argument still makes me rage. Which is why I stay out of those threads.

Well said, Angela.

Though, I have to say I'm starting to find the whole 'complicated and spoilery' thing quite interesting. Still not holding out hope, but definitely interested.

@COSMO!!  Drinks on the Lido deck?Posted Image

Agreed on the rage inducing "dying" bit.....did they not also realize he was designed to attracted female gamers?  That he was also made to be a LI? That he had a son, was potentially the best assassin in the galaxy? Bah....I admit, I too tend to avoid those threads.  Gets tiring repeating ones self or reiterating what someone else just said.  Kudos to those that jump into battle still.Posted Image

Yeah, I've not dared to check on the thread since I posted in it that meeting Kolyat would be like only talking to Miranda's sister. Fully expecting someone to throw a fit about that.

The only reason why they wouldn't mention Thane or Jacob in the dlc for spoilers sake, is if they have a large role in it. lol, which they won't :P So it must mean they aren't there. I REFUSE to get my hope up on that. I've been hoping before and that was a total waste of time.

IF this dlc has been written after the fan input... well then they HAVE seen what we think and admitted to Thane being forgotten! If they chose to ignore that anyway... haha... haha is all I can say. I won't even buy the dlc for Garrus sake then.

I sure picked* a weird time to come back didn't I?

*/ Technically, I was stuck without internet in the Scanian countryside. It's a long story.

So. Citadel DLC.

It seems we're all swinging to and fro' on the "Swing of Hope & Despair". I know I am.

But tbh, I'm with coldi on the whole "It's spoiler territory. Can't talk", it technically means nothing.
It's neither a confirmation nor a non-confirmation. It's...nothing.

And related to the above:

http://social.biowar...78/246#15966195

So Samara & Jacob is in the "It's spoiler territory. Can't talk" area too. Hm. :?

But it is weird that they'd say "It's spoiler territory" when they flat-out tell anti-enders that "the DLC will not change the ending" in a bolded fat print-way. Multiple times even.

They're obviously not worried about losing anti-enders, so why this dodginess with Thane/Jacob/Samara fans?

@giftfish

Yeah, BW's method of gathering data seems off for a number of reasons.

1. Anyone who is not connected to internet 24/7 with their consoles/PCs are not included.
(I belong here, my Xbox is only connected when DL'ing DLC's & patches)

2. There's an ingame "Collect Feedback" option that can be turned off.
(I personally know of a few people who've done this because their Internet connection is slow and/or shared with others. Turning it off makes the internet faster)

3. Some Firewalls for PCs might block the data from ever being sent.
(Either because the user blocked them off deliberately, or the Firewall made the setting itself)

4. Like you said, do they account for multiple PTs? If not, that's a serious number of unaccounted PTs.
(Like my alternate 6 Fem-Sheps if my main Shepard was counted)

And since I caught a glimpse of you asking about what file actually contains Thane's death, and since I can't keep track of which thread you did so, I'll answer you here if that's ok.

And the answer is: It's not in any of the Cerberus Coup files, all of those files have the prefix Bio(*).Cat003.pcc.

The files containing Thane's death are prefixed with Bio(*)_CitHub_Hospital_P3.pcc. (These files also contains the post-Gellix conversation with Jacob if anyone is curious) So, if they're changing anything (in the same way they edited the Ken & Gabby bug), that's the files to look for inside the DLC's .sfar file. Which, depending on when my brother decides to get the Citadel DLC (he's a Miri-fan so he's getting it), I might be able to find out by checking the DLC's .sfar file.

*/ Instead of (*) there's a letter, each letter is an abbreviation for its content type:

BioA_     = Area : Enviromental models, levels and enviromental models are contained in these.
BioD_     = Design? : I don't know what the "D" stands for, but this is where character models, animations, etc. are kept.
BioG_     = Generic: Things that show up irregardless of location/plot are kept here, like Shepard'smodels and "facemorph" parts.
BioP_     = Plot?: Idk, I *think* this is where the scripts are kept.
BioH_     = Henchman : The data for Squadmates (models, textures) are kept here.
BioSnd_ = Sound :  What it says on the tin. Music etc.

There are more prefixes, but that's the gist of it basically.

@Roxy

I'll be joining that table flipping event if a letter/Kolyat Convo/Memorial talk/Nothing aka Thane not surviving ME3 happens.

(And I've rambled enough for now. Ah, even if the timing of my return is awkward, it feels good to be here with the rest of you again.)

@Fiery Phoenix I know what you mean, that complicated and spoilery could be interesting and I'm see-sawing in my mind from 'maybe this dlc patches pre coup Thane content' to 'they're just stringing us along again'.

A few weeks ago on Keythe Farley's fb page he asked of the new DLC screenies 'what COULD it be?' and I wondered at the time if he was hinting at Thane content... didn't dare to hope, and I pretty much still don't dare.

David Gaider had an interesting point on the DA forums regarding romances that fewer gamers experience: namely, same-sex romances.  When pressed on how "unrealistic" it is that all the LIs in DA2 are bisexual, he pointed out that parity for the player base is more important.  It doesn't matter that it's a small minority of gamers who play certain kinds of romances; what matters is fairness.

So...what went wrong with the design ethos at Mass Effect?

I think it's called the Triple Entente of Casey + Mac + EA  wanting to cash in on making the game a shooter.

None of which can impact Dragon Age.

I've really been wondering this, and I  can only think of 2 things:

1. He recorded everything initially for the vanilla release of the game.

2. They made him sign off on not being able to disclose anything about it prior to the DLC

Or, of course, he recorded nothing, and we aren't getting any new dialogue with Thane.

From what I've heard, Keythe has talked about ME and its dlcs even when Thane hasn't been anywhere near it. Seems to me he'll post no matter what.

I have to say it's strange that neither Jacob, Thane or Samara can be confirmed though. =/ Agh... and it's 2 weeks of this going between hope and anguish.

They don't care about loosing us either. They have shown that time and time again.
I highly doubt that Thane, Jacob and Samara are so important to the plot that they can't say anything. They just don't want to. They now some of us still hope and they want our money.

It was the same thing before ME3 came out. They said nothing about Thane you didn't even see him in any trailers. Some thought that meant something good for him. We all know how that turned out. They are liars and I don't believe anything that comes out of their mouth. I would love to be wrong, but I doubt it.

Possibly because they know that we still have a justifiable gripe with the content we were provided.  The anti enders got the EC and I think they should be content with that, it was not ideal but to expect more is, for me, unreasonable.  Thane, Jacob and Samara fans just got shafted, and so far have been given absolutely nothing, so they're not likely to be singing that the most shafted fanbases are going to continue to be thoroughly shafted from the rooftops... aaaaggggggggggghhhhhh get me off this see-saw.

I've gone for the "Doughy Grey of Indifference" approach.  Which upon closer examination might be even more dire, but at least it helps keep my expectations nice and low :D

I won't lie; there is a tiny part of me that still really wants Citadel to be the DLC that fixes all my problems with the game.  It's part of why I still poke around the ME forums from time to time.  But the rest of me knows that's unrealistic, so we keep Hopeful Sable locked up in a cupboard in a gimp suit.

Why can't they tell us if Thane is in there, or not - so we can know how to spend our money, really...
