Here is the scenario I could totally see presented in this last DLC, regarding Thane. We know that there is some kind of conspiracy on the Citadel, revolving around Shepard. Koylat approaches Shepard with a datapad, box of evidence, hell - even handwrittten material. The young drell found this compelling piece of "whateveritis" amongst his father's belongings. The material in question, is the starting clue/aid for this so-called conspiracy. A "voice" beyond the grave, there to help guide his dear friend/last love. In the process, for those that romanced him, a vid or recorded voice of Thane talking about the intel he has gathered, but a few "Siha's" and terms of endearment are thrown in. And last of all, Garrus, Liara, EDI, who-the-hell ever, says something like "Boy, that man was really looking out for you. Sad to lose him."
Boom! Throw in a codex entry, and apparently, something like that would fix everything and be totally worth another $15......../sarcasm.
THIS is what I was hoping for (taken from my DLC idea posted in the Romance Content DLC thread; modified to fit the little bit we know regarding Citadel DLC):
Thane Specific content added to make him playable.
The Player could choose NOT to do the following, and the events of Thane's involvement in the Citadel coup would proceed as expected.Triggering this new bit of content would set the game to using Kirahee (if alive), during the Citadel coup, or the salarian Councilor would simply die.
A small amount of content would be added to the base game. This content would be available to activate AFTER your initial interaction with Thane in Huerta Hospital. The diagram below illustrates this:
(Diagram was initially made by me for a way to keep Thane alive until the end of the game. Ignore the heading, please.)
As you can see this would be a short conversation with Thane about his doctor/a doctor having a new treatment to try (since we already have information on the Eupolmus Device, that might be the best way to go, but it could be something new/different.) The dialogue option even gives people who "accidently" triggered it when they don't wish to change his availability (and perhaps his fate later on), to 'leave him be', so to speak. THIS DOESN'T CURE THANE. This is merely a "bolstering" to his health. Something meant to simply keep him alive till the end of the game. Yes, this is simplistic, but Thane's health condition and length of life expectancy was changed in me3, so this is a plausible route, all things considered.
If the above would have happened, then we could have Thane himself approach Shepard with the intel. If Shep was in a relationship with Thane, then a few lines of dialogue could have been exchanged, and the romance could be reaffirmed.
Such hopes and wishful thinking. His story line could have been just about anything, and his character could have been utilized for more than "death"

Is it just me or is it "in" with having a lot of deaths and dark stuff in media nowdays? Or maybe I've just been unlucky with my choice of games and series...

@Coldi
Your idea would have been great.
A voice or recorded video of Thane would not be enough to make me spend $15.

It does seem like "darker and grittier" is the trendy thing right now. But there are the ones that do it well, and the ones that are shallow imitations.
The good kind: This would be your Witcher, Dragon Age, Song of Ice and Fire, Spec Ops: The Line, Battlestar Galactica, and Planescape: Torment. Yes, the stories have lots of violence and death and darkness in them, but they serve a clear narrative purpose. When bad things happen to people, it's usually as a direct consequence of their actions or personality. When random bad things happen, they serve as a catalyst for plot advancement or character growth. The world might be crapsack, but it has an internal logic and sticks to it.
The bad kind: This is what most video games are like when they're marketed "M for Mature." They've got an ugly color palette and lots of gore, but that's about it. Or worse, they go for the "grimdark for grimdark's sake" approach and just have bad things happen left and right for no good storytelling reason. That would be the approach in ME3. The original endings and the kid nightmares are a great example of how NOT to do "darker and grittier."
Personally I like messy, violent, complicated stories. My favorite children's book is hardly a children's book, and I'm eagerly anticipating the next season of Game of Thrones. But when grimdark is done wrong, it really does feel like pulling teeth.

Don't get me started on Game of Thrones. There's a reason I stopped after the first season. That show just made me incredibly mad and hateful towards some decisions AND characters.
Thank GOD for Skyrim. I'm in the control of who dies there!

I couldn't even watch the last Harry Potter movies cause they just seem so dark and depressive. The last one I did see (fifth or sixth?) just didn't go well with me at all. (I read the books)

At least MP got it's first drell banner. Now I just need to complete the biotic challenge so I can parade around with Drells. Ya know, since some people seems to dislike them.

Also... I made sure to save Kirrahe so that, if this new DLC happened to change Thane's fate depending on Kirrahe being dead/alive, I'd have a save ready for that.
*sigh* No matter how hard I try not to get my hopes up, I know I'll still be disappointed if/when the DLC adds nothing to Thane's romance. I just feel like that out of everybody, the Thanemancers have been one of the loudest fanbases protesting the treatment of romances in ME3. They have worked so hard, trying to make BW and others see what is wrong with the romances, especially Thane and Jacob's, in ME3. The thought that Thanemancers would get the short end of the stick again... I feel like, anyone who has anything human in them, couldn't allow that to happen, lol. But... I guess we will see about that.

Um, Stargate and X-men...who died there recently. I have to admit that I quit watching the X-men movies after what the did with the Phoenix storyline. Stargate got too weird but I loved the movie! Mass Effect..well we all know my thoughts on that one.
I was incredibly pissed when they killed of Sean Bean. Grrrr And then, THEN, the hottie horse dude (can't remember his name) too. Loved the dragons, but still rage quit the series. LOL
Skyrim is great when it doesn't crash on me. Stupid new DLC.

So it's not really NEW things, but 2012 was a really crappy year for me character wise. xD It's all just bottling up now.
Seems several rage quitted at Games of Thrones. xD I'm being called ridiculus for it by most.
@Stilographium: Yeah, ME1 is a bit... worse than ME2 when you go back to it like that, but it was great when it was new. As for the dlc, no hope left at all now. I just wonder what the heck Thane and Jacob fans did wrong to deserve this.

@mnomaha : Nah, nothing new in Stargate. I've not seen the series before, so I'm watching Stargate SG1 now and... people die and I don't approve. And awhile ago Nightcrawler in X-men was killed off in the comics... He was one of my first fictional "crushes" and at the moment I refuse to buy any comics until they change his death.

They did WHAT to Nightcrawler? He's a bloody icon! And yet, I bet his loved ones f*cking mourned his death, did they not? He was mentioned afterwards by someone? Nobody said, "he was deformed, get over it" or anything?

It's hilarious because Marvel basically always resurrect the X-men that die. And NOW they realize that fans expect this and might not repeat that "Mistake" with Nightcrawler.
Seriously, it's a curse! My favorite characters just DIE around me!!
As for the horse hottie guy, Khal Drogo, wasn't it? Yeah. Pissed me off too.

I think I just have a different attitude toward character death. I get attached to characters, but what matters more to me is the overall arc of the story. I liked both Ned Stark and Khal Drogo, but their deaths made sense and fit into the narrative. I know there's going to be a lot of nerdrage over the deaths in upcoming seasons of Game of Thrones, but again, those deaths advance the plot and fit the actions of the characters.
Tying it back to ME3, I was fine with Mordin's death even if it did make me bawl like a baby. Legion and Thane's ME3 deaths, on the other hand, made me rage. They served no purpose, and they essentially nullified the characters' development and plot arcs.
