The person who posted this doesn't have the Citadel DLC and thinks the dialogue with Thane at Huerta has been edited. I don't remember ever seeing those dialogue lines either - and it's definitely not in my game (I just replayed that part but nothing changed). So, where does that come from?

Whoa, holy crap! Never seen that before. Seems weird that it occurs for just non-loyal Thane.

@gearseffect I got a bit different dialogue with Samara. She told Shepard she left the party to use the restroom and found this nice silent corner. She found it fascinating to meditate in the middle of a party, or something like that. So I guess yours might be romance-specific. =) Unless there are more dialogues with her in that corner and I missed some...

@Laser-Eyes

I think it's because "he has become self-destructive" only happens if you don't stop Kolyat: I.e Kolyat kills Talid, gets caught by C-Sec, or he escapes and becomes a fugitive*.

*/ Is there any mention of what actually happens if Kolyat succeds? I can't remember if it ever did get mentioned in ME2.

If Kolyat is stopped, he either goes to Jail or he gets Community Service, the latter of which is not so self-destructive considering the circumstances.

It's still bogus that Kolyat isn't mentioned otherwise in vanilla ME3 tho. :/

Why weird? If Thane was loyal, he reconciled with Kolyat and, as Citadel DLC states it, spent a lot of time with him on the Citadel, dissuading him from crime life. Without Thane's guidance, Kolyat becomes a criminal.

Kolyat only succeeds if you lose track of Joram Talid during the mission. He kills Talid offscreen and disappears without a trace. Talid also can be killed by Shepard if s/he desires so, but it doesn't directly affect Kolyat's fate.

movie files are convertible to bbik and sound files to wav

Changing the name plate is harder than it looks because the names are created dinamically, i.e. the program checks to see if people in the crew are alive or not.

Inserting pictures (we call them textures) is trivial, I have done it before and can easily mod Andersen's apartment to put Thane pictures or paintings on the wall. Inserting inanimate objects (we call them static meshes) is also pretty easy. Adding Chairs, tables, Tali's picture or a statue of Thane is pretty doable.

Inserting moving objects (i.e. a mute Thane or a car) has also been done doesn't sound too hard. But depends on what scene and what you want to insert

On MEHEM Mr Fob replaced Andersen's body with Sheppards and replacing one of the bystanders at the ending scene with Thane would be doable. Like replacing Liara or Wrex with Thane's model.

Changing the story, i.e. the flow of the conversations is a bit trickier and involves messing with conditionals. I've done it once and in one of my failed tries I got Thane to punch Shepard by accident   (by never stopping his shadowboxing animation on the meeting scene).

There is a picture of Thane in photo frame near the terminal when Siha!Shepard calls Kolyat and invites him for the memorial service.

I think I can also swap all those Andersen memories on the pads with Thane's little messages for Shepard quite easily. Sounds to me like something he'd do if terminally ill, waiting for Shepard at the hospital.

If only we had easy access to Thane's voice!

"Drell filter" is easy enough to do, if what I read at BSN is true.

Basically, it goes like this: record the voice, then duplicate tracks, transpose the duplicate 1 tone lower, apply high-pass filter to the original track and low-pass filter to the transposed track. This gives any voice those distinctive Drell overtones.

There is also the alternative of using external source material for sound but idk if that's considered taboo in ME modding or not. Modding has always been a somewhat "grey-area" when it comes to it after all. At least it has in previous modding communities I've been a part of. I've seen several instances in the past where mods have "borrowed" sound externally (mostly music tho).

Hm...I'm just musing out loud, but if anyone has an answer to the above (or knows where to find it) feel free to poke Emerald.

As far as copyright, I am not a lawyer but here in US we have the Fair Use exception to copyright law, which allows for non profit informative use of small parts of the copyrighted material.

The 2 keys to US copyright are:
  • Non- Profit - We are doing it for free so we are fine
  • Doesn't impact the ability of Bioware of selling their game - Here we  are also 100% fine: We would be making available a slightly altered small portion of the game, for discussion purposes (i.e. akin to fan art and fanfic) that fits our vision of the game. It won't impact Bioware's ability to sell more Shepard and Thane content because guess what ? Bioware has been pretty clear it does NOT want to sell anything with Shepard on it. They are done with the story arc. Nothing we do could negatively impact THAT. Besides, if anything, fan made content requires purchase of the game and makes players enjoy the game more so we are HELPING, not hindering Bioware.
We would be messing up with their artistic vision for the series but we are alllowed to do that. In US we have  another law called Freedom of Speech. Here we are allowed to imagine and display anything we want about any cultural symbol. If a guy wants to make a sculpture of Jesus made from his own poo,  he can. He can also make a sculpture of Shepard made from his own poo (pretty much what the original ending was ). No one is going to stop it. Is not ilegal to express yourself artistically and if anything I think we are being a lot better to Thane and Shepard characters than that abomination of an ending. :bandit:

Do you mean the one on the piano, next to the flowers, or is there another one? I could only find the piano one and it disappeared after the memorial. :(

I can verify that Liara "saves" me and I'm with Steve, who is apparently great with a gun and locked out of being a squaddie, even in dlc...

Where are these recordings? Do I access them after I get back to the Normandy?

I'm never going to be able to play this with Anya, but the boys are having fun. Anybody else enjoy Wrex's pouting?

Renmiri's right.  Besides, if the devs could shut down modding or had any inclination to do so, they'd have shut down MEHEM ages ago.  As long as nothing we do could cut into their profits (most notably modding MP), we're in the free and clear.  Most game companies understand that moddability helps the overall shelf life of the game.

Taking Wrex to the casino then not letting him shoot anything is the best.  Also Tali's pouty "I never get picked!"  Sorry, Tali.  ManShep is a tech character too, with your Energy Drain.  Don't worry, you go a lot of places with my biotic Shep.

For the first time in ME people complained about not being picked and I felt aweful. xD

I'd probably never have gotten through all 3 games if they had always been like that.

LOL.  Because of that comment I'm now being scrupulously careful rotating my squad instead of just dragging Garrus + extra everywhere.

In my playthrough, Ashley complained not to be picked, though it was completely justified because I began Citadel right after the Cerberus coup and had no chance to do any missions with her yet.
Though I remember one of Mass Effect's spiritual precursors, the Wing Commander series. In one of the games, if you pick only certain wingmen to your missions, the squad morale drops and the captain even chews you out about that.

 Hey everyone,

I haven't been keeping up with the thread because I didn't want spoilers for the DLC... even scrolling to the bottom of this page has spoiled some stuff for me, ha ha ha. I have played it like three times but I didn't realize how much I would miss due to having rebounded with Kaidan after Thane.... so I've been working on a playthrough with a Shepard who turns down all solace after Thane's death, but I'm still only on Arrival with that Shepard. I still haven't YouTubed anything - in fact, I've basically gone incommunicado from the Internet!

But I wanted to post here to let you all know that I am still updating my femShep/Thane fanfic, "The Phenomenology of Shepard". I missed a week because I was too riled up and anxious about the DLC to properly edit it (and besides, the threads were scrolling so fast that I think everyone would have missed my announcement... I mean, even the week before, when I mentioned that there was explicit drell sex in chapter 9, it only got a couple of comments!).

But I'm back to my weekly posting schedule now, since the Citadel DLC didn't include anything that would make me want to radically rewrite my plot... which is kind of both good and bad. But that's besides the point.

Chapter 10 is called "Friend/Foe". Commander Shepard's 'morning after' involves a mission for a Reaper IFF, because that's the kind of woman she is!

Chapter 10 is rated M for language.

Oh Gods the Vega NOT romance....

This is something that I can never unsee...just think renegade Shep trying to get Jacob to kiss her. It's almost worse. It could actually be worse. It's definitely pathetic.

Yeah that was a big let down, I wasn't expecting a "I love you" but they could have had a better small romance than that! Bioware did you remember that femshep only has two "real" male romances now? *sigh* Although I admit to laughing at the Javik hook up LOL Just for the wake up music alone

I saw the Thane funeral...so yeah my shep is just going to get a vid then? God dammit. I just wanted to see them together one last time and now it won't ever happen. I had a silly idea of kolyat giving shepard something that mimics drell memory , like the greybox. So that we can see them as a couple one last time.

This was IMO a good compromise idea.  Shep's half cyborg anyway, what's the most harm an illegal greybox could do?  I'll bet that most of the stuff the Lazarus project did to her wasn't legal either.
