It could be the old Reaper trope, "genetic enemy smoothie to make new reaper" going haywire ? Like some collector / harbinger wannabe grabs a hold of the Normandy genetic samples and thinks by rebuilding an evil version of the crew who destroyed Reapers they can get the reaper plan back on schedule ?

Reaper plans never made much sense to me so leaving it to them to do an evil mess of it all seems very plausible :P

Haha, good call.

Actually, I think I can probably work the Indoctrinated Angle, seeing as how that's something I left on the table with the other fic.
Wanna avoid anything more complicated, as logic such as that vomited by the Star Brat makes me see red !

Dammit! I was right in the middle of posting (literally...LOL) and DineBoo shut the forums down for maintenance.

I will post it here so I don't loose the info, and repost on the new forum tomorrow.

To be added to MOD threads re: music

The very beginning part of the Thane's theme could definately be utilized.  Right about the 1:04-1:06 (depending if you want the drums in or not).
I also like the "New Worlds" theme from ME2.  At the 1:50 it has a slightly varied section that is nice. I am assuming any music we place here will be relatively soft.
I even thought of "Normandy Reborn" from ME2.  The start of the piece till about 0:26, quite pleasant. My thoughts on both of these was "new", "reborn".....a new choice for Thane; returned to a healthier state (reborn)...ya get it.  LOL

Oops! Sorry about that! I should have checked...

Yeah, the board is going under the knife while I add and move things around. Shouldn't take too long. I hope to have a more fleshed out forum when it returns.

@coldi You said on the other forum you were looking through some ME2/3 romances to find lines that could replace some of Shepard's lines at Huerta -- I don't know if you saw my post before DineBoo shut the forums, but I asked which romances have you already watched, because I'd like to help with that. Also, if you already answered, I didn't see it. ^^;

I did see it, and I responded. Image IPB I ended up going through a number of YouTube vids, and HJF4 and @giftfish (n7Siha) put up some different lines as well.  I don't think it is a bad idea to look for more to add to the pile, just in case some don't really "fit".  Both HJF4 and I looked at Kaidan's romance, and I looked at a number of Citadel vids.  If you find anything, be sure to add them to the thread. I'm not sure anyone has looked at the main game Garrus romance.  There might be something good with that. Image IPB

@coldi Alrighty! Garrus romance has definitely some great lines -- I will look into it later today. What about Liara, Traynor and Kelly romances? I could take a look at them too, if no one else has.

I looked at both Liara and Traynor in the Citadel DLC, but not the base game. However, HJF4 did end up looking at them, and found some lines. I think someone found one good Kelly line, but I don't remember what it was. We also can look through ME2 as well (Garrus, Jacob, Liara from LotSB). Of course, the problem with Jacob in ME2, is that Fem!Shep has transformed into Shepredator! LOL! XD

God I love the Galaxy Map theme.  I really love all the music in ME2 Hrmmm...that gives me another thought....

There is a theme that plays in ME1 when you are down in the Wards.  On the main floor where the upper markets are, the entrance to C-Sec, and the Doctor's office.  It's a really nice low-key techno piece, that now I think about it, almost feels "Thaney" to me. The melody really gets stuck in my head sometimes.  I remember trying to find it on YT one day and couldn't.  Let me try again, otherwise if folks can fire up their copies of ME1 and head down to the Wards and you can hear it....
_________________________

EDIT:   YAY, I found it!  Ok, this track is actually NOT on the soundtrack. Which is why I couldn't find it on the soundtrack, lol. But, I found a nice quality version posted on YT, and if you use a particular browser extention it can be downloaded as a flac, if I remember right, which of course is better than an mp3.

At any rate, this track...god.  I actually get a bit choked up every time I hear it for some reason.  No idea why, and I feel like a bit of a moron saying that, lol... Anyway, a commenter on the YT page says it makes her/him feel like 'coming home' which I think is exactly right, and also is pretty appropriate for when Shepard finally is able to see Thane in the hospital.

Also, it doesn't appear anywhere else in the trilogy, and there is a constant stream of 1:43 that would need no editing.  I know it isn't in ME2 or linked to Thane anyway in the game, but it might work pretty perfectly.  Or, maybe we could use the first 10 seconds of Thane's theme at the beginning/end of this.

Anyhoo....clicky to hear.

^Ha that one!
I have an audio rip of that track ;)

Hm it's not a bad track, and it kind of fits; Thane and Shep are on the Citadel after all.
I do have an experiment I want to try with that track*. I'll upload it to YT when I'm done.

*There's a "synth + strings" only version of the wards track (which was never used either iirc) that if overlayed with the synth track you linked, might give it a bit more emotional oomph.
There's also a "horns" only track, I can't tell what the instrument is called but it's def. a middle eastern horn instrument. (The same instrument is used in Samara's theme) I might experiment with that one too and see what happens.

I should also note (becaue I forgot this tidbit for some reason) that the romance theme from ME2 is played in the Citadel DLC during Thane's memorial.

Okay, my fellow fanatics! I just received in the mail today the ME trilogy for the PC. For those that may remember, I originally played the ME trilogy on the xBox. It has been over a decade since I consistantly gamed on a PC (between poor computers and a husband with a penchant for consoles, this would be my reasoning). Since getting my moderately priced gaming rig last summer, I have played both DA games on the PC, and had no trouble what so ever adjusting to the controls. ME however, seems to be a completely different beast. And frankly, this ain't going well. :P

To start off, the graphics; they are not.......great. I can live with that, but if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know (and yes, I changed the in-game settings, but I think there must be something else I can "tweak"). Next, and this is a big one, the in-game camera. I hate it!! Why is it attached to my mouse?!?!?! What a horrible idea. Please tell me that I can either change it, or I can adjust the settings so I don't have to "LITERALLY" pick up my mouse when I get to the end of the mouse pad, and set it on the opposite end of the pad and scroll again to the end of the pad, JUST to get the camera to do a 180. Ugh! And finally, will holding the spacebar down, give me the ability to pause n' play? As you can guess, I haven't even made it on to Eden Prime. Hell, the only gun slinging I have had so far, is at a wiley looking bulkhead!!! (it had shifty ey__errr.....rivets!) I shot up the bulk head right behind Joker's chair. Yup!....bravo! ppppbbbbssstttt :P

I downloaded the manual (since EA is too cheap to provide one in the trilogy pack), but it doesn't answer the questions I have. I bought the trilogy specifically because I want to be able to experience the MOD we are working on. Plus, if someone needs more testing/tinkering, I am more than willing to lend a hand. Of course, the confidence that the tech people will have with me, is probably somewhere in the vicinity of Hell, right about now.....HA! Why trust me with helping when I can't even control my own damn character!!!!! Or the camera......or the graphics!!!!!!! *weep*

Long story long........help! Please! *begs and pleads* Any advice you can offer to make this smoother. I had no trouble adjusting to DA...in fact! I found the controls MUCH better on the PC than my xBox (which is where I started playing both DA game originally, as well.). But this seems clunky and counterintuitive.
*wimper* help??

(thanks all who feel pity, in advance.) ;)

Aw, hey, no confidence lost from my side ;)

You should know that the ME1 PC version is a port of the Xbox version, it was also done by a different studio. I have ME1 for PC myself but it's been ages since I played so my memory about the controls are fuzzy. I do seem to remember the controls being more clunky than ME2/ME3 for PC (and the Xbox version). At least I know I hated the hacking sequences for PC. They sucked.

re: ME1 graphics:

First: What's your graphics card/driver version? What are the card's 3d settings?
(By editing them you might get better performance/graphics)

Second: Use the Mass Effect Config Utility (located in the Binaries folder of Mass Effect's install folder) to edit the video settings.

These are the settings I use with my ATI Radeon HD 4800 (This card is starting to get old, I know):

Resolution: 1440x900
Aspect Ratio: Widescreen (16:10)
Particle Effects: High
Texture Detail: Ultra High
Filtering Mode: Anisotropic

Dynamic Shadows: On
Vsync: On*
Windowed: Off

*/ I only turned it on because I noticed some occasional screen tearing. If you don't experience that, then don't use that setting.

Third; If you don't care much for the "film grain" effect, then turn it off (from in-game). It boosts performance (It does so on Xbox as well). I did and I've never regretted it. (Some shadows might look a bit harsh but meh, I'll take that over semi-lagging fps)

I can have a gander at the controls, perhaps there's some setting. Besides that, try changing your mouse sensitivity. And if your mouse have some kind of "Game mode" (usually a button on the mouse)try turning it on and see if that's better.

This is interesting.

The romance theme seemed very fitting and nostalgic there (at least in my Thanemance playthrough). I'd vote it for the mod, though the other suggestions are great, too.

@coldi Ouch, playing on PC really seems like a pain in the a**. I'm considering getting the ME trilogy for PC some day (so I can use the Thane mod of course :kissing:) and the different control systems are what worries me the most. I'm not even sure if I know how to use a mouse anymore because I'm so used to my laptop's touchpad, lol.

Also, I watched the Garrus, Kelly, Samara and Jacob romances in ME2, plus Liara's lotsb romance and even Kaidan's stupid reunion scene, and wrote down some nice lines from Shepard. I don't know if there's anything we could use in the mod but I can write/link them in one of the mod threads once the forum is back up again.

Its' funny; shortly after I wrote this, I said to Rog, "Hey, this was an Xbox port...wonder if that is part of the problem??"
Oh, and I looked at the "hacking" instructions on the pdf manual I downloaded...yeah!  I think I am going to be missing out on a bit of loot till I can build up a nice cache of omni-gel. HA!

My graphic card is a VisionTek 2gb GDDr5 AMD Radeon HD7850

Looking over your list of settings, I have a couple questions:
1) The Resolution I currently have it set for is 1280 x 800 (16:9)  - Should I change both to what you suggest, or just the ratio? I have a 27in. LCD HD monitor, and I admit I am unsure what ratio is best utilized.

2) Particle affects I do have set to High currently

3)Texture Detail also set to Ultra High

4) Filtering Mode I left as default (Linear) because I had no idea what the hell this was....LOL  I will switch to the
Anisotropic, as you suggest.

5) I did not have Dynamic Shadows on, so I will also engage those.

6) I have Vsync off at the moment, but I was going to switch that on (I did notice some tearing as Shep was walking to the cokpit in the opening scenes.).

I also turned off the Film grain, because it was a bit more "heavy-handed" than the Xbox version.  Nice to know it might help with potential lagging (no lagging yet, but then, haven't really done much either....lol!)

As for the mouse, I did notice there was a setting for mouse sensitivity.  It is currently set at 50.  I wonder if it would help to actually make it MORE sensitive.  I can play around with that. Have never bothered to look, if my mouse has a gaming button...heh!  I will do that as well.

Though nice graphics are definately a plus, I can live with how it is, even without the changes.  However, that camera and some of the other controls still feel bass-ackwards!Image IPB I also think I will need to write up a cheat sheet on the current controls, and until I get the hang of things, I'll let my little sidekicks use their powers on their own (something I never let them do, on the Xbox...dumb AI. LOL!)

@Stilographium - Cool on checking out the other romances!  Feel free to add the lines to the list. Image IPB

I think I may be up for the romance theme music as well.  Especially since the Memorial in the Citadel DLC wouldn't be relevant/shown with the Thane Mod.  So we wouldn't ever hear that music for Thane, unless we placed it in the one dialogue we get with him.  Food for thought, nonetheless. Image IPB

@HJF4 - Sorry I missed your list of Shepard lines!  Fantastic to get more to work with. Yay!

Wow...they are still down?  I thought this was supposed to take a "few hours"?

Arg.

@Coldi -- I can talk you through all this stuff, since I play ME1 on PC.  But, the truth is that the graphics quality of ME1 sucks, especially when you are playing on a widescreen monitor with 1920x1080 resolution.  The answer is texmods. That's the only way to get it to look better.

This is why all games should be made for the PC and then ported to the CONSOLE. Consoles are simply gimped PCs. When a game is ported from consol to PC it will never live up to it's full potential. It is gimped from the get go. Also....mods are good.

Emerald is on the right track when it comes to your mouse sensitivity. When I move my mouse about an inch, I go all the way from the right to left side of the screen.  That is a windows setting that needs adjustment -- or a software setting that goes along with your mouse (if you have logitech software installed or whatever).

The mouse controls that camera. That's how it is in pretty much every PC game that I know of, lol.  There is very little you can do to control how much you can zoom out, unless there are some console tweaks out there I am unaware of. There might be.

Space bar brings up the screen where you can select the actions for squad members, etc (HUD). If you want to "pause", just hit escape, that will bring up the main menu.  If I remember correctly, you can go into the menu and change most of the key bindings to whatever you want them to be. That probably also includes the camera.

Sorry to read about your twins DineBoo.  Hope they get better soon, and you can avoid getting sick yourself.  If you have any estimated time that the forum will be up, that would be great.  Also, are you planning to give someone else admin/mod rights?  I know that there were some on the forum who offered to help, and that might be perfect for situations such as this. We all know how real life can "sneak up" on a person.  Passing the work load around might be beneficial, for that reason alone. Image IPB

I have to get over to the new forum!

Hello all!

Still haven't played any SP, and still miss Thane. I'm starting to think the hurt may never go away. It seems like I'll never be strong enough to play the SP without balling my eyes out over him and Mordin (unless I kill off the Krogan :P). Anyway, just popping in to say hi!

Yeah.  If it's still down by the end of this afternoon, I'll starting thinking about creating a social group here on BSN or check into other alternatives.  I really, really don't want to do this. At all. But at the same time, it's been over 2 days now, and we don't have an ETA on when it will be back up. We all have different schedules and while a project is in active development like the ThaneMod, it's important that lines of communication remain open 100% of the time. Having the forum down for days puts us in a bind since all of our resources are linked up over there, and we can't post links to certain content types of in a public thread like this -- unless we want everyone to be able to see it.  And, therefore, troll.

But, we can absolutely still exchange ideas in this thread, and I'll go ahead and compile them onto the new forum when it opens back up.  This way, nobody misses anything.

ThaneMod FYI --

1. I had just posted the first LI-specific Thane email, on Tuesday/Wednesday, before the forums were taken down. I was hoping to gather input during the rest of this week from folks as we started to work on the others. Unfortunately, I can't put the link to the document on this thread, as I don't want everyone on BSN to be able to see it. For now, if anyone wants links to view the 2 friendShep and 1st romancedShep emails, you'll need to toss me a PM. I will happily send you the GoogleDocs link.

2. There is a discussion going on about replacing the music in the Huerta dialogue scene, so scroll up a bit to check that out. I have some other thoughts on that, but I'm going to wait and hope the forum opens back up sometime today.

3. The remainder of the Thane-romance emails will probably be ready to go early next week.

4. We're looking at creating a reskin of Shepard's black leather dress. Something Thane-themed.  I posted some ideas for Emerald over on the new forum earlier this week.

5. We are modifying the Huerta dialogue.  That's right.  No more out of character "happy to die" romanced Thane. It also avoids any impression that LI-Shep is at the hospital to see the VS. Instead, she is there to see Thane, as it should have been presented in the first place. We still have to work within the constraints of the game for this conversation, but many lines, as well was the dialogue wheel will be altered. Thane will be much more similar to his end-game ME2 romanced self. This ties into the next point below.

6. We had some questions from folks as to how the mod was going to interact with Citadel DLC. Right now it looks like all Thane/Kolyat content will be cut in totality.  Some of it will be worked into the emails. Most of it won't. I don't like removing content that some players like, but this is the price of having Thane alive. The content from Citadel just won't make sense in the context of the new mod. This mod attempts to make a romanced Thane's character align much more with how he existed at the end of ME2.  It's for this reason that we aren't keeping the vids, as they contain information from what Thane did during the 6 months pre-ME3, but it's still presented in the context of his OOC behavior in ME3. This was BW trying to explain their poor writing of Thane in the vanilla game. It is a retcon.

I know we are all starved for Thane content, and I don't disparage those who appreciated this content, but ThaneMod will flat out make these videos unnecessary. And, here's the important part: we are doing this in a way to still allow players to retain their own head-cannons.

There is maybe a small chance we could keep these vids in for a friendShep using the mod.  But, they would have to be delivered in some other manner.  No guarantees. I will have to look into this more. And, this means a reduction in wiggle room for player head-cannon.

HOWEVER, we are looking into ways to give romanced FemShep's something else Thane-related in the DLC.  For example, adding some Thane-related items to the apartment (coffee mug from Life Support, sniper rifles, maybe a copy of his prayer book, etc). More thoughts on this to come in the forum thread.  I know Emerald has pulled the meshes/textures for the coffee mug.

Gift, there is always the ME3Explorer forum, I am Admin there and we have our own folder for the Thanemod
http://me3explorer.f...ne-mod-f24.html

The bonus of posting there is that the techies always give us good pointers and suggestions, we got HJF4 to join us because he saw my post there. And since I'm admin, I can squash any spam or BSN trolls that dare set foot on there.

And won't take away from Dineboo's forum since it is perfectly ok to have more techie posts on the ME3Explorer forum and to have some detailed stuff there while she has to be taking care of RL issues.

PS: Saw the first LI letter, <3 got me misty eyed even without any voice over. Is perfect!!!

PPS: Saw the dress too, was nice though the snake skin bits were a bit too garish for my taste.

I appreciate the idea about ME3 Explorer, the problem is that we really need a place for the non-techie stuff.  Discussing email contents, me being able to communicate updates, random ideas, put up polls, etc. For that type of stuff it seems like ME3Explorer wouldn't be the right place.

Unfortunately, as we know the BSN social group area is completely inadequate, but it might do for now.  I'll toss HJF4 a PM and see what sort of ideas she has.

I'm really just afraid of things stagnating.  People get an out of sight, out of mind mentality, especially when it comes to online stuff, and at this point, we have no clue when the forums will be back.

Board is back online! Thanks for your patience!

Notes:

-Thane mod is now in its own forum under the Game Mods category.

-N7Shia is now a SuperMod, or Overlord in Training due to her Thane Mod work. I'll be making some other people mods soon.

Let me know what you think of the new layout, and order. I was trying to be fair. Also I still need a logo since I suck at art.

Everyone should be able to make their own posts, so try it out and drop me a note if it doesn't work. The permissions may be off.

As soon as I finish my main site I'll declare the forums public.
