You need the upgrade to keep him from being killed on the ship but don't do any others.
As long as the 2 squadmates you take with you at the end are loyal (Thane+Miranda works well) you should all 3 survive
This is the combo I always take, regardless of playthrough/class. I just need to figure out how to keep Thane alive while having the biotic bubble done. I guess I could use him, since he would survive it and someone esle would take the fall.
Ugh, what a depressing topic<_<

I didn't fight to save everyone's a** during the suicide mission for nothing, right?

I have a question . . . how many can you let die but still keeping Thane alive? I'm starting a 'tragic' playthrough, with Thane as the Li again, but the most I have been able to kill off so far has been three.
Should I only upgrade the Thannix gun?
Take a look at this thread if you haven't already, it helped me a lot. 2 is the minimum number for Shep to survive.
The other thread Pacifien mentions is here: Thane is a jerk. Apparently Thane can be the only survivor, even leaving his siha to die^_^

Thanks so much Baris! Exactly what I'm looking for . . .

All of my party lived, but I played after my husband had beaten the game twice, so I already had the strategy figured out.

What a bummer. I was happy to have everyone live...I'm too much of a wimp to even lose the characters I don't like! I mean...I'm too much of a hero!
That's how I feel too. In may first play-through I had the crew dying, in my second it was Mordin's turn, but since then I managed to keep everyone alive. It's too depressing with all those coffins... I've seen it on youtube.

But what does get me though is when some of your squadmates get killed and none of the remaining squaddies comment on it - ITS LIKE THEY DONT EVEN NOTICE!
Not really a big deal but it would have been nice to hear them say something or even gave Shepard some support or whatever.

I don't mind letting a few squaddies die here and there in different playthroughs but the only three I absolutely CANNOT lose in any of my games are, Thane (of course), Garrus (my bro) and Mordin (just not the same without him)

Grunt mentions that one of his imprintings is about a salarian with a... that thing from the head... horn?... missing. I took it as a clear reference to Mordin. But it seems that although they are on the same ship and maybe go on the same missions together, they never saw each other.

Maybe Okeer also knew about him, so it could be possible that he showed Grunt pictures of Mordin while he was in the tank and what not, not sure if Okeer knew about Mordin's involvement with the Genophage though, probably not otherwise Grunt may have mentioned.

I'm usually this way, I just want to try different playthroughs where some die in the end, just to seee. The only playthroughs I'll actually import will be ones where everyone survives, esp. Thane and Mordin.

Nah I want to mix my games up a bit to see what kind of impact they will have in ME3, like what will happen if certain characters don't make it? I am curious to see.
If you let Ash kill Wrex in ME1 the Krogan are pretty PO'd at you in ME2 for letting that happen, so I'd like to see what happens when characters die and how that will impact upon ME3, maybe it might not make the slightest bit of difference, but I have the saved games there just in case.

It is funny how it's so obvious whenever there will be combat in the game. There's always cover.
