Seriously we have to put up with enough crap IRL, playing video games is one of my biggest hobbies because at least for a couple of hours each day they allow for an escape on reality. For the people who have lost friends/family due to terminal illnesses, myself included, I do not want to see the same situation portrayed in one of my favourite video games it would be too depressing and if they do indeed decide Thane shall die of his illness, without any sort of option to cure him then I simply will not buy the game!

Everything you said in this paragraph here, Shadow.  Rather than absolutely loving only one Li, howver, I'm equally a fan of two others, so I can survive if they don't cure Thane:crying:, but if Kaidan and Liara get similar treatment, then so long ME universe:pinched:

I am ALL for treating everyone's LI's fairly, there should NOT be favoritism, in that a few LI's should allow Shepard to have a happy ending at least and with others a happy ending is not possible.

It's down to BioWare to do this, they created the characters and each one has fanbase and it simply would not be fair catering to a few of those fanbases and giving the rest of them the cold shoulder.

Is it any real wonder that many of us have very low expectations for ME3 concerning the LI's and other characters after the way they handled Ash/Kaidan/Liara, in my opinion I honestly do think that the Ash/Kaidan/Liara fans were shunted in ME2, due to the fact that their LI's recieved a few minutes onscreen with a few meagre lines - with the exception being Liara of course but they went and turned her into an ice queen which her fans did not seem to appreciate.

So yeah, BioWare have a chance to make up for this in ME3 and I am really hoping that they do, otherwise as I said, I won't be buying the game.

To be fair though, by the end of Mass Effect 3 if Bioware did everything correctly every romance interest that exists thus far will have two games of romance to them.

I know what your saying Collider, but seriously the way the ME1 LI's, specifically Ash/Kaidan were handled in ME2 was a joke, the fact that Shepard tells them that he/she was in a coma for two years doesn't really seem to matter, he/she still should have found some miracoulous way to contact them to let them know he/she was still alive, even though technically Shepard was completely incapacitated - no offence to Bioware but an 8 year old could have done a better job.

I agree that it could have been done better. But I think what is important to consider is that they needed a good reason not to join Shepard. So they could survive to ME3.

They want to make the games newb-friendly which is awesome, I get it, but it should not come at the expense of major characters, who deserved MUCH better roles than they got. I am much more pessimistic about the characters in ME2, and that makes me very sad. Seriously, THane is one of the easiest to kill off, one of the many reasons all my playthroughs will have everyone survive at the end. Idk, the suicide mission was a stupid idea.

I think BW should do their best to make sure all the Li's are in ME3. Fair treatment is only fair.

This is why I am totally for the friendship/romance pack idea, which would expand a bit more on each of the characters, give them a bit more dialogue/coversations, take them out for drinks and whatever.

I honestly think that could make up for it a whole lot and Ash/Kaidan/Liara should definately be included within it aswell as it should recognize whether or not you remained faithful to them, maybe you get to go out on a date with them too Idk.

But it should definately include ALL LI's from ME1 and ME2 as well as letting you expand a bit more on friendships, no more talk of calibrations, engines, girls clubs, spilling drinks etc...

However whether or not this actually happens, I still agree that ALL characters should maintain their role in ME3, I would rather keep all the old characters than have new ones, which in anycase would have made recruiting a team of experts in ME2 seem utterly pointless if they all disbanded and Shepard had to begin anew in ME3.

Ok,less depressing thoughts and more screenies! When one of the later trailers came out, we hear more of Thane's dialogue, mentioning the Omega-4 relay. I love the way he turns areound, so quick and suavely *silly-girl swoon* So, thought I'd share!

I'm sure that the developers have traced some general ideas about the direction of each character, but I think they also have made some big changes along the way.

The whole thing about Kaidan/Ash and Liara needing to survive for ME 3 sounded to me more as a thing they've come up with to appease the fans than an actual reason for them not to be present. They also needed to be gone and easily forgotten so the new LI to have a chance. As for the big role they are about to play in ME 3 it seems to be more of a helping hand with some inside info about something, than to actually be part of Shepard's squad. And I believe this even more now after hearing the dialog Liara has with/about the Shadow Broker.

With that being said, when choosing the ME 3 squad, it will come down to whether a particular squad member was popular enough or not based on what Bioware gathers from the feedback the game sends... if it sends that particular kind of data - which party member was most used, on which missions, etc. I think that's how Tali and Garrus came back. To be brought back as romance options was probably a choice made because of the forums.

I think I forgot where I was going with this... but if they choose to kill Thane, then I'm not buying the game. Sure, it can be argued that it was established from the beginning that he is dying, so why am I complaining. Because it's not fair I'd say.

Never mind... I'm starting to ramble too much...

Honestly, if Bioware does not have the fan favorites return, I don't think the game is worthy of purchase. The Reapers aren't interesting enough as enemies for me to play the game. It's strange since I went into Mass Effect one almost not knowing an iota about it...but if the same characters don't return, I wouldn't feel like playing the game. The characters are Mass Effect to me.

This is about it in a nutshell for me, too. If they just bugger off and shove the squads of 1 and 2 into lolcameos, I will be hardpressed to bother with buying 3. The story to ME is decent and all, but it's the squadmates that give it the pull and depth that really keeps me playing it. This is especially true for ME2. There are a few I could shrug it off if they don't return, but not the majority of them.

When Thane and Shepard met, what do you think it went through Shepard's mind? An impressive display of skills, of course, but did she see a little beyond that? We know that Thane did, but what about her?

Whatever she was feeling, I have no doubt that she was mentally slapped in the face whenever he told her that he was dying - I know I was!

In Shep's mind...hmmm. Surprise, awe, admiration, and something like anger/wrongness/disorientation for what was like randomkilling (before explanation). Then understanding and an instant connection for someone who kills to try and make things right.

Well, there's always pure lust at the skin tight leather, muscular body, predatory black gaze. Hypnotic, like how snakes can mesmerize their prey.....?

Here is Thane at his coolest. But, with all due respect, I wouldn't really pay attention if they cut Thane out of ME3.

I was actually commenting for Shadow_Puppet and tennyochan about the dying part. But really, what a great description! So, do you think she was seeing beyond the mission/skills?
