The hanar gave him and his family a great honor. They trained him to be the best in a unique field.

I don't consider giving away my children to have an incredibly messed up life as an assassin would be an honor on them...I can't imagine killing people so young is going to be good for one's psyche. I know Thane didn't really seem to take it badly, but I could see some children.

I think of Jack as a counterpoint to this, someone who trained to kill from a very young age who grew up having all kinds of hatred for those who trained her. Of course, her training was probably a bit more, ah, harsh than Thane's.

We never really do learn what life was like for Thane while he was being trained. Was he trained alone or with other children? Was it a very disciplined and strict upbringing or was Thane ever allowed a moment to be a child? Did he ever see his parents again?

In any case, Thane viewed his service to the hanar as a great honor, as did his parents. He still holds no ill will toward the hanar and seems to have tremendous respect for them. A bit of mental conditioning on the part of the hanar who raised him perhaps, but he doesn't seem to be a mindless follower of their will when you meet him.

As for the evil or innocence of various victims, it's all subjective. To the child whose father was killed, they see only a caring and good person taken from them. To a politician, the methods used may be harsh but the goals may be admirable. To the batarians who killed his wife, we get a description of who they are from a man who has every reason to hate them. And again, at what point to you draw the line between who has done bad from being good?

Those batarians that he killed were slavers. I don't think he lied about that. He killed Nassana – she was evil. And he killed some »really bad people« (that's what Bailey says) on the Citadel. We don't know about anybody else. And he saved those salarian workers in Dantius tower. I see him as doing just his job. Of course it wouldn’t be normal in our world. But in Mass Effect where slavers, mercenaries, terrorists are everywhere and are involved in politics and businesses, it is a different matter.

He is an assassin that will execute his targets, but will stop and help an old lady across the street. Like Kasumi says: “an assassin with a hearth of gold”.

I don't doubt he is a nice person. As I said before, the Normandy crew consists of a lot of nice people. Their jobs are another matter.

What Thane did after Irikah was killed falls under the category of revenge and penance. What he did before she was killed is entirely dependent on the whim of his employers. While we don't know what those whims were, I'm personally not going to look upon it with rose-tinted glasses. When your life revolves around killing, black and white views should not come into play.

Does anyone have a screen of the top of Thane's head? I'm almost done with my bust but I can't find a picture that shows the pattern of scales on the top of his head...thanks!

All I have are front/side images. I'm afraid the best way to get the image you need is getting near him while he's sitting in the Normandy and take screenshots :-(

No images of the top of his head exactly, but some links that might help you...

Geah, is this where the thread went. I kept trying to find it, getting confused, and going away again, then forgot.

Okay, if you still need those screenshots:

Ok, so I'm assuming you guys went and made a Thane Booty call in the Captains quarters after defeating the Collectors? What the devil are these two up to?? It could be sex... but not as we know it?

Posted Image

Also, heres another shot I took earlier to demonstrate the size of my Shepherds nose but actually I think its rather sexy :)

It's an ancient drell custom called "staring contest".

My FemShep does have a huge nose as well and nobody complained ;-)

Joking aside, nice screenshots.

So Thane says he would like to visit a desert. I've been wondering where each squadmate would like to visit on Earth, and the planet certainly has its share of deserts. But desert covers a very wide spectrum of terrains, from the rolling sand dunes of the Sahara to the comparitively lush green of the Sonora. Do you think Thane would be drawn to the driest desert or the most visually interesting? The two types of deserts that came to my mind as Patagonia, because that's where I'd like to go, and that Atacama, because I think that's actually the driest place on Earth.

Greetings Thane thread. I require some assistance.

I am currently working on a story, running through a possible story line for ME3. This will be similar to those old 'choose your own adventure' books, where at certain points the reader will be required to make a decision, which will bend the story in a different direction, making the story more personalized to each reader.

For this story I am trying to keep each character as true to their actual character as possible. Unfortunately I am not an expert on every character, and actually I know very little of the behavior/attitudes of many.

The help I require, is that I would appreciate if one, or a few, of you would help me to make sure that I keep Thane true to his character in this story. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Much like Kasumi in her line of work, Thane takes pride in the professionalism he brings to his work. If someone can pin him as the assassin, if guns start blazing and mayhem ensues, then he has not done his job properly.

Of course, he is a deeply religious man. His believes the gods do guide his path to some degree.

He has great respect for the Hanar.

He is a repentent man when we meet him. He feels great guilt for what his soul did when he went after his wife's killers. Actively seeking the death of others is not his way, at least, not the desire of his soul. He is very protective of the innocent, willing to fight and die for them.

Which brings me to his belief in the separation of soul and body. As an assassin, his soul and personal feelings for the target are put aside. He feels nothing. It is about the proper execution of his body to perform the task. Outside of work, his body's actions are connected to the thoughts of his soul. It's not understood if this is truly a drell concept or an aspect of his assassin training to make him a better killer.

He's quiet and patient. He studies his opponent first to find the weakness to exploit. His ability to view his opponent's movements with perfect clarity probably give him a considerable edge. When he strikes, he is deadly quick and flexible.

He might possibly have a wry sense of humor, but he's not a humorous man.

Outside of his role as an assassin, he wants to be a good man, he wants to make the right decisions in life.

I just played the Collector base and Thane said:”I made a life of killing those who deserve to die....”
You can put those rosy glasses back on. :D

Speaking of Thane's voice, I remember I used to hate it - well, I always tend to hate characters who get marketing over-exposition, like Grunt, Miranda and Thane himself. The guy has grown on me of course or I wouldn't be writing in this thread, however I have to admit that since that English is not my first language, Thane is the hardest ME2 companion to understand due to his strange voice, I have to read subtitles most of the times or I'd miss some words.
