Heh. I will never understand the fixation on Thane's son.

Well, if Thane doesn't get cured and you dont recruit Thane's son, the chances are less that they would introduce another drell into the game as I'm not exactly sure how popular the drell race is, seems to be alot of hate for them in the forums.

While I love Kolyat, I don't like the idea of him "replacing" Thane in ME3 at all.

Kolyat hasn't been trained like his father has, and from what I can tell, he has had very little experience in combat. Also, I generally don't like the idea of characters being replaced, expectations would be high and people will most likely end up disappointed.

I would love to see Kolyat play a small part in ME3 though, it would be wonderful to meet him again :)

Those who think Kolyat should be recruitable are not looking from the perspective of a romanced Thane. It will be pretty awkward having Kolyat on the ship if you were sleeping with his dad. And I do not think that those who killed Thane in their saves will see Kolyat. If Thane is not in your game I do not think there is a place for Kolyat. However if Thane is in your game I can see implementing Kolyat in at least one mission. Not as a squadmate but as some kind of informer or something.

Sleeping with Thane and then going after his son? How weird are people actually? I wanna keep Thane. I would like to see more of Kolyat as well, just next to the story. All in all I would love to know way more about Thane.

I am not even going there that Kolyat could be a LI. I do not have words for that. And they want to replace Thane with another of the same species like he is some kind of pet. That is just wrong. And yes we know very little about him.

And even if I had any non Siha Shepards I would not romance Kolyat. He is not very good looking and he has father issues. I know that is Thane's fault but still.

I think he is very good looking but seeing that Shep is 31 in ME2 and Thane is 39, that makes Kolyat, what, like 20 or so? WAY too young for my and Shep's taste. But some people seem to be that weird...

Besides, I love how Thane follows the old rules and prays to the old gods of his people. I have a thing for that. I really do. So far, we don't know anything about Kolyat yet. Even IF he had his father's believes, it wouldn't make him any more interesting for my Shep as potential LI since there is still the age thing. Thane just has that special something.....

Yeah. Who knows how old is Kolyat. He could be even 16 for all we know.
And he is probably nothing like his father. He didn't really know him. He was raised by his mother and then his aunts and uncles.

I'm lost as to why people think Kolyat is a replacement for Thane.

Let's look at it from different angles.

You didn't romance Thane, but you did befriend him (male or female).  He greatly respects Shepard, I would wager to say that in this instance someone's Shepard respects Thane.  So.  If you respect Thane, believe him to be a comrade in arms, why would you go completely against one of his wishes when he tells you he doesn't want the life he's led as a life for Kolyat?

Ok, you didn't romance Thane, you told him to ****** off and you kicked him back down to the deck plates every chance you got.  Why then if you're such a douche bag to him would you do anything he asks of you?  Let alone take on his whiny kid who cries like a baby at the sound of a gunshot and would probably ****** himself if he even saw a Reaper or Collector up close.

Ok, you didn't even bother to pick up Thane from Illium.  So.  You don't even know who / where / what / how / why / what if when it comes to Kolyat.

Ok.  You romanced Thane because let's face it, the guy's hot all the way around, mind and body:  Tali may have 'dem hips' but Thane's got 'dem lips' (and thighs and voice and drellchest ... ahem).  So.  Why would Shepard want anything to do with Kolyat besides checking up on him, hearing about the patching up between him and Thane or using him as a contact.

So, despite the obvious reasons as to why Kolyat is not Thane and Thane is not Kolyat and you can't interchange the two like shirts from your closet, there really is no justifiable reason to pick Kolyat over Thane or even have Kolyat on the Normandy longer than it takes to give him the grand tour and then drop him back off so he can clean toilets on the Citadel while Shepard and his dad head to a dark corner somewhere to discuss galactic politics ...

... amongst other things that could happen in a dark corner with Thane.

Kaimana, well said. Couldn't have said it any better myself.

Also, let's not forget that Kolyat technically doesn't have the gut to be in a battlefield. He's simply not trained enough, if at all. Just because you can hold a gun and pull the trigger doesn't automatically make you a good soldier/fighter. You sure don't want someone like that in your team when you are going after the Reapers once and for all.

I agree with everything you wrote. You can't interchange characters like that just because they're of the same race. And yes, if Shepard kills Kolyat's target, you see the boy crying "OMG" like a whiner! He's just a kid.

The second is really great. I think that many who cannot draw a good Thane forget about his heavy eyebrows. I just love his eyebrows.

That was totally a plot in the show Farscape.

Anyway, there's another drell that's been introduced in the series who I think you're more likely to meet in a squadmate capacity versus Kolyat. But I don't see the need to entertain the idea: if they're going to have a drell in a prominent role in Shepard's squad, I'd rather it simply be Thane.

Feron has even higher chance of being dead in ME3 than Thane. I think

not everyone knows Feron. I mean, some people really just play ME1 and 2 and don't read the comics, novels or background infos and stuff. So for that, they would really have introduce Feron to the "new" ME players. Interesting here would be if Liara was your ME1 LI and Thane your ME2 romance. Now imagine Feron turning up, being Liara's friend lol and a drell. Drama big time xD I don't really want that.

@Pacifien: plot or not, it's just a blah idea!

Well let's hope then that Bioware writers won't degrade mass effect story to the level of a bad tv series.

What role would you like to see Thane play in ME3? Beyond continuing the romance or being a squadmate. Each squadmate brings a story to the game. Gives them something to talk about. So where do you see Thane going for ME3? What's his new story? Continuing his repairing his relationship with Kolyat? Organizing an infiltration mission with Shepard? Liason to the Hanar?

I'd really like to see Bioware organize a mission that concentrates on what a squadmates abilities are supposed to be. Thane is a precise assassin and a tracker. Get him to assassinate someone. Or, okay, for a slightly more positive use, I can imagine him playing as Shepard's eyes and ears as she needs to track a target, sort of a reversal of their roles from Thane's loyalty mission. (I always thought it should have been Thane keeping a watch on Joram while Shepard followed anyway.)
