Do ME 2 achievements mean anything? Like ME 1?

I remember in ME 1 there are a number of achievements that once unlocked will give additional "buffs" to all characters across the board.  Like 5% extra of experience gained, health, or shotgun damage get increased and extra.  I don't seem to be able to find anything like that on ME 2.  At least the info is not on the screen.  Do achievements in ME 2 translate to any tangible outcomes?  I don't see the rewards for going through the effort in unlocking certain achievements.

Once you beat the game, future characters get a 25% XP boost. Also, once you make a squad member loyal their bonus power is available to you when you start a new character, even if they aren't loyal in the new playthrough yet.

Yeah, I believe those are the only two things (+25% XP and loyalty powers).

Ah I see.

I guess just by looking at the achievement system itself in ME 2 (still on 1st playthrough ... 42 played hours so far! *gasp*), these achievements are not as enticing as looking at the list in ME 1. Then again, ME 2 seems to have "simplified" when it comes to game mechanics - mathematically speaking from what I can see.

Really?  But it doesn't show up as rewards on the ME 2 achievement list.  I guess I haven't gone that far yet in the game (though many are unlocked)?

Edit: I see I was beat to the punch

New games using the same character give you +200k credits and +50k of each type of resource in addition to the +25% XP (which for many is a moot point if you were already at lvl 30) and the unlocked loyalty powers.

All new characters get it.

Oh yeah how could I forget the bonus elements... those give you a nice boost. You will have to do a lot less planet scanning. 50k eezo is basically enough for everything.

I think everyone missed the point of the OP's post. He's not really asking what bonuses you get for finishing the game, he was asking about little bonuses for things like using a certain weapon or power x amount of times, or using medi-gel x amount of times. No, ME2 does not have those for each individual achievement, but I wouldn't rule out ME3 taking certain achivements into account, just like ME2 did.

Thank you.  That was what I meant.  It just make the whole business of  going for a certain achievement less enticing as the reward for that particular achievement is not there.  And so, the entire ME 2 achievement system is a little bit disappointing compares to ME 1's system.

No doubt, the reward for the subsequent playthrough is great.  Sounds great at least.

IIRC, aren't the extra credits only available when you complete the "Long Service" achievement? I know that achievement was mentioned when I got my extra credits someplace.

To be honest, the achievements in ME2 are so easy to get, you don't really have to worry wether you want to go for them or not. ( Except for the Insanity one, I hear that Insanity is a real swine in ME2 )

Is this only if you do a NG+ or use the same character?  Or does this count if I import one of my other ME1 saves different from the one I completed the game with?

You get the rewards for all future characters you play ME2 with, whether a new character or an import character.

DAMN. So level 60 import chars would get 350,000 credits, and what, 120,000 or so elements, except for eezo.

Yeah after you beat the game if you import a ME1 character you get a real healthy bonus. Long service bonus and ME1 import bonus.

It is a great feature that makes the following playthroughs more fun in my opinion.

I do wish more of the achievements had cool little bonuses like in ME 1 though. ME1 had the coolest achievement system of any game I've played. They made sense for the game not just for e-peen purposes.

Yea, they could have worked something in I would think. Like the headshot achievement could give you 5% headshot bonus, or warping 25 shields gives you 5% warp power, etc. I think the main complaint with ME1 acheivements was the squad ones since you had to use them for 75% of the game.

Sounds like I am not the only one who misses this ME 1 feature ...

Yet another item on my what-I-miss-about-ME1-list!

Agreed.  The squad member achievement forces us to team with the same set of people throughout the entire playthrough - which could be quite plain and boring.

No they don't but then they are much easier to unlock than in the first game too. approx 50 hours for 1015G if you don't linger.

I'd rather achievements really were achievements personally, and I really liked the Ally Achievements in ME1.
