Sorry to all if this problem is answered elsewhere. But here it is and 'thank you' to whoever that reads this.

Basically, I have mass effect 2 and I have it installed. However, whenever I click "Play..."
It transitions into a black screen as if its going to load the game, but then all of a sudden...the game crashes. With a message "Mass Effect 2 has stopped working"

If anyone has had similar problems and may know how to fix it, all help is appreciated.

Same issue. No error code, just an appcrash. The error module is the main exe itself. I tried all of the regular troubleshooting, but to no avail.

(Clean boot, clearing temp folders, updating drivers, un- and reinstalling, removing the game's appdata folder)

There seems to be enough of us impending over the same problems. If some staff has any solutions or ideas, the crowd of us here that has gathered will be very much thankful.

I had the same black screen and "ME has stopped working" pop up. There's a few other threads on this issue, but since there's no search function...Here's the link to the one that helped me to fix it.
http://social.biowar...06/index/766790

Here's the summary:
The ME2 folder should be 11.4 gbs when installed correctly, without DLC. What was happening with me and a bunch of others was that the game was not fully installed. Our folder was less than 11.4 gbs.

There were 2 possible problems/solutions.
1. When installing the game, take out all discs, except Mass Effect 2 disc 1 of course. I and others noticed that if you had 2 DVD drives and the other drive had a disc in it, it would eject that disc when asking for disc 2 (instead ofthe tray with disc 1.) Somehow this caused files to be missed during the install.
(Note: It happened for me and others when DragonAge was in the 2nd tray, not sure about other discs, but it's worth a shot)
After this, reinstall and check the folder size again.

2. If 1) didn't work or doesn't apply you can try manually searching disc 2 for the files you are missing. The installer pretty much straight extracts the files to your install path. So you can try comparing the two. Extract the files yourself and make sure you extract them to the right place. Again 11.4 gbs is the target.
(Note: For most people, the file that seemed to be missing was the "english.rar")

Lastly,  make sure you install DirectX off disc 1, even if you think you have the latest version.

Good luck.

The first option worked for me. I uninstalled ME2. Took my DragonAge disk out of the second drive and installed ME2 with only the disk 1 in the drive. Thanks!

Had the same problem running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

I was able to fix it by following Shadow328's tips (thanks Shadow!):

1. Uninstalled my broken installation.
2. Removed all disks from my DVD drives, apart from the ME2 disk 1 (like Ketrilla I had my Dragon Age disc lurking in my other drive  )
3. Installed the DirectX from ME2 disk 1 (from the AutoPlay menu).
4. Installed ME2 again.

On mine, I hit the play button on the launcher and it doesn't even respond. I don't even get a black screen.

Skuzkid, what size is your ME2 folder?
