When you extracted it, I assume you put all the files in the proper places?
For example The english.rar had a CookedPC folder and a Movies folder in it, both containing a bunch of files. You put those files in the ME2's CookedPC and Movies folders right? You just didn't extract them to the main ME2 folder?
EDIT: By ME2's CookedPC and Movies folders I mean the ones in the Binaries folder
Also, update gfx card drivers, if you haven't.

You know what I mean right? the english.rar has two folders (Cooked and movies). Just don't dump them in the ME2 folder, they need to go to ME2's folders with those same names ME2>Binaries>Cooked/Movies(put them here) as opposed to just extracting in ME2 and leaving them there.
GFX drivers = Graphics card drivers. Like Nvidia or ATI or whatever you have. Go to the manufacturers website and download the latest ones.
Run the directX setup that's on the disc too. that might be causing it.
Disc 2 also has a physX exe in the software folder, give that a try too.
If it still doesn't work, just go for a fresh install. And hopefully you get 11.4 gb right off the bat and it works.
Need to sleep now, I'll check back tomorrow and try to help if you still need it, hopefully it works though. Good luck.

Thanks Shadow328. The tip about the manual extraction worked for me. There definitely seems to be a problem when two DVD-drives are in the computer. My machine also opened up the second drive when it asked for disc 2. In my later tries I also tried installing from drive 1, but the installer would not accept disc 2 in the first drive at all. My numerous installations I tried also finished pretty quick during the end (jumping from something around 90% to end). So when I read your post that some files might be missing, it made sense.
For me it was the english.rar that got skipped. I manually extracted the files and copied them onto the drive and now the program starts at last. I will do a complete check when I get home from work this evening if any other files might be missing.
Thanks a lot!

Same here, english.rar wasn't installed. Again, two DVD drives.
Now I have to figure out why it freezes when I try to create a new character...

Not quite sure what else to try, sorry guys. Browse the other threads, maybe you'll find something that works.

ugggggg ok... wait so is it only the collecters version thats acting up? or the reg too?

Posté 04 février 2010 - 11:36
Not sure, I have the collector's version though.
One last thing I suggest, try running the "configure" (Just below the play button). Let it scan for settings then save it and try to play. Maybe that's the problem =/

I tried the fix listed above. I uninstalled the game, took out all discs from my optical drives and reinstalled the game using only one optical drive with no other discs in the computer at all. I also did NOT install the free DLC that was included with my purchase (actually the DLC was provided via a promo code. I downloaded the DLC way back when but on this attempt did not install the file I downloaded using the promo code).
Ok, so the size of the game folder was only 11.4 GB but I tried firing it up anyway prepared to be disappointed yet again. To my surprise the game started! I've made it through the first few minutes, no spoilers here. I will post any developments here, good or bad.

this is killing me, same thing...windows 7, load disk one, then disk 2...click play...black screen of death and ME2 stopped working.....I dont have the tech skills ot be opening up exe files and messing around...how hard of a design would it have been to just install like EVERY other game, then play. Dragon age gave me zero issues.....unistalled it and reinstalled it twice to no avail....and my file size is blank...so nothing is there wtf...help

Clearly your issue is the same as above Lord Krohn, so you just have to follow what worked for them.

on a new laptop, w7, meet system requirements, just updated my drivers and directx, did a disk clean and a full defrag...dragonage works beautifully, ME2 wont even start. Only have a single drive on computer, so that isnt the issue. unistalled and reinstalled 4 times now going to go bang my head and throw this $50 POS in the trash and go play dragon age..again...pity

I'm having the same problem and ME2 is 11.7 gbs on my PC...
This is annoying. I want to incinerate the game, but at the same time I want to play it...
Why do games HAVE to have bugs?
here are my system specs:
