Also, I talked to Wreav, and he mentioned the emissary to the female clan as a male.

I must admit I also thought that the emissary was a younger male :/

They exist, we just don't see them. The out-of-game reason is that a decision was made not to devote time to creating a female character model for the Turians.

No in game reason is ever given though, and I hope no one decides to create a lore entry to explain the lack of female Turian NPCs. We already have two races where the females are rare, (Salarians, Krogan) and I hope they don't decide to add a third.  Humanity shouldn't be rare in producing a near equal amount of males and females, or in allowing it's females the same freedom as men.

Also we don't see dogs or cats but they no doubt exist on human worlds and most likely in human wards on the Citadel as well. We also don't see children, but they obviously exist. There is no need for a codex entry on Turian females just because there haven't been any in game so far.

It is pretty weird we still haven't seen any female Turians after two games. For most species there is an explanation as to why we only see one gender - or, in the case of the Humans & Quarians, we do see both. The Turians are just about the only ones (I suppose there are the Volus) who remain monogendered in their appearances in the game even though both sexes are supposed to share power/space travel/etc. It's understandable that there are only so many assets the art & animation teams can create, but I would've thought the Turian gender imbalance would be one of the things corrected in ME2.

I think the art department of Bioware is trying to make them look somehow appealing and just haven't been successful so far due to Turians looking like bird/dinosaurs.

Why? They don't have to appear appealing to my human tastes. Thats just silly. Asari already fill that role, every other female alien species doesn't have to.

I agree that it is odd that they haven't created a Turian female model yet. I sincerely hope we get a few female Turians in ME3 at least.

A couple female Volus would be nice as well! Oddly enough we've only seen males, even though there is likely to be little outward difference in appearance between males and females. Just color their suits in more feminine colors and give them a female voice actor.

It seems like each species only shows the males except for the asari and humans

There should be female turians everywhere. Salarians and krogan there shouldn't be because all the krogan females are on Tuchanka and there aren't alot of Salarian females breed and those that exist are leaders. The salarian council member however, SHOULD be female. A male councilor kinda contradicts their culture or am I missing something?

Disappointed in lack of sexes among some aliens. There are some reasons why we may not see many of some (Krogen, etc), but I don't see how it would kill a developer to at least put in a few. Even some concept art, or something would be nice. Just to confirm that it's not all males running around. It isn't even about sexism, just the OCD in me is finding the unbalance disturbing.

I don't understand why they don't just give a female voice to a few random turian NPCs. Problem solved. If they're avian, it's not like they'd have to have mammary glands. Or just use a different style of face markings on the same head for females. They could even recycle the 'all turians look the same to humans' joke, making fun of the player for not being to tell the difference between male/female.

This is what I think should happen.
I realise the devs are lazy/busy but they gave us male Quarians for ME2 but no new female models for other races. It's really irksome that 50% of the Turian population is just rendered invisible and there's no reason it has to be that way when all they need is a few female pronouns and a couple of voice actors reading lines for female turian NPC chatter. At least this way I can pretend the females have been there all along rather then them suddenly popping into existance in the 3rd game. The whole thing is just bad world building coupled with male-as-the-default-gender
I heard someone working on the game say in reguard to female Turians 'Maybe you've already seen them and just couldn't tell th difference' If that's the case then just refer to some of them as female in game!
gahhh......:pinched:

I think in ME3 we will see a huge amount of lore stuff since the devs don't need to make a new game engine and will probably keep the combat system the same (or similar).

There's a lot of missing bits in the Mass Effect universe, and it really detracts. There aren't any female Turians, Salarians, Krogan, Batarians, Elcor, Hanar(?), Volus or Vorcha(?). It seems lazy to me.

You're calling a team that created an entire galaxy with 50+ hours of gameplay lazy?

Same with Volus, no females. Dont even want to start on Hanar because who knows

On Illium, a Volus talking to an Asari (about stocks or something) says he paid for new suits for his kids.
Assuming they do not adopt, they must have some sort of reproduction.

Also, as a side note, I think 90-95% of the Salarian population is male.

Also again, you do kinda see a hint of a female krogan, doing mordin's loyalty mission. They seem smaller, and much skinner.

In ME3 I do hope they decide to just all the way and dump a ton of lore on us.

Maybe they'll appear in a future DLC/Expansion Pack?

Frankly though, I don't really care what female Krogan & Turians look like. I have a good imagination, and anything I can picture is ugly as sin... (I think that's why we haven't seen them yet, Bioware is desperately attempting to make them appear physically attractive, but at the same time make them look similar to the males of their species before revealing them.)

While I know this is a joke, it's wrong. At least, the one turian Garrus talks about is as good as he is in combat. And I think that if that were the case, turians would be less likely to respect female Spectres or soldiers (aka FemShep).

Two things.

1: 90% of Salarians are male as only one in Ten eggs are fertilized.

2: We have seen Female Turians, go to the Persidium Bar in ME1 and there will be a Turian in pink armor, bring Garrus in Pheonix Armor if you want to see the difference in charactor models.

I hope there are at least female turians (and hopefully volus, too) in ME3, even if all that differentiates them from the males are their voices. It's not like the males look particularly male by human standards.

...but then again, I think "not female-looking by human standards" - no ******, that is - is the sole reason why they're not in the game.

Realistically speaking it's highly unlikely we'd be able to differentiate between a other species’ genders. Sure, we humans have those fleshy bulbs on the chest on one of the genders that combined with the anatomically correct armour we’re wearing in the future makes in generally pretty easy. But who here can tell if a cat or a fish is either male of female without checking the genitalia?

I’d say we’ve probably already seen turian and salarian females; we just haven’t realised it because BioWare didn’t draw attention to it. That or BioWare was to lazy to design more then one model for the species, but I like my other explanation as it’s more positive.
