I think it's almost certain the 'old favorite' that will be in Mass Effect 3 is Liara. Ash, Kaiden, and Wrex had an opportunity to die in ME1. Everyone had a chance to die in ME2. That only leaves one character by default.

She wont be in my ME3 cos I killed her in ME1. And even by some weird occurence she does appear, I'll kill her again...personally if I have to. Or get Grunt to use his Krogan shotgun.

Well, I'm not all that concerned about Ash. My main Shep respects her and considers her a close friend but not his cup of tea. That having been said, if they bring anybody along to the third game (which I'm pretty sure they will), they'll have to bring all of them (less the one who bites it on Virmire for you). To do otherwise would be to invite major fan backlash.

So what I'm saying is that yes, I support Ash returning in ME3. And Kaidan. And Liara. And, for the sake of fairness, the LI's from ME2. We'll see.

I strongly belive that ashley will be a squadmate in ME3, casey hudsons said in interviews that the reason they left out your LI from mass effect 1 was because they had too important roles in the future. Basically they couldn't put them in ME2 just incase you killed them off. The only problem with this is a lot of people care about their LI from ME2 but the fact that any of them could have been killed off makes it hard to know if bioware will go to the effort of making 4-5 squadmates carry over from ME2 that could be dead for other peoples games.

I think they are going to have all the characters from ME2 return. It's just that you can only have them if they survived the mission against the collector base. Thane and Mordin may not return due to death by disease and old age respectively. Any DLC characters probably won't return either. My guess is Liara and Ashley/Kaiden will fill Thane and Mordin's spots.

I think it is only possible for 4 members to die and still have Shepard survive. So they may add two more new faces like Kal'Reegar or Capt Kirrahe. They've already spent two games gathering people and getting to know them. If this is going to be a trilogy there is no more time for introductions. I get a feeling that they are going to make Tali an Admiral and "wrex" her, although both her and Wrex will have larger more prominent roles. 

I can't see them just rubbing everyone out because some players might have a saved game in which someone might have died. The only way they can die is if you want them to die. Why should we all be punished because of each others' discretions.

Tali and Wrex is going to have an imported rolle in mass effect 3 Tali Adimiral if you don't get her exild and wrex as leader of the krogan but if he died on virmire then Grunt will de the leader of the krogan.

Think about it this way. Liara is the only character in mass effect 1 and 2 that cant die. She will obviously be in the third one. As for ashley and kaiden, if liara is making her way back into the third one it seems logical that they'll return too. Besides bioware obviously put a lot of effort in with the import feature so the gameplay will be tailored to the way you played the first game, so if you kept your love interest after you finish the second one im sure they would want to incorporate your decisions (including your love interest) into the third game.

Like he said that the consequences in mass effect 2 would be dire in mass effect 3. That even Casey hudson said in an interview.

They put in a lot off energy in the making of mass effect 2 but put lot on focus with the shooter aspect off the game. So i thougth ther was not so muth choice in the dialogue options in the RPG part of the game example when recruiting the team the are not a lot of dialogue options, and the the dialogue with the love interst on Horizon is short and no expression of that shepard as misst the love interst.
