Ive never played a Femshep to the end. Usually the Femshep playthrough is supposed to be my polar opposite playthrough. Instead of a Paragon Male Shepard, I play a Renegade Female Shepard. But I never quite get to the end. Something about acting like an impotent Krogan makes me turn away from the game.

I thought Hale did slightly worse this time around, and Meer slightly better. Hale certainly is on top, but when she 'does' flatline her lines, its far more noticeable and jarring.

Indeed.  The closer to perfection you get, the more obvious the flaws become.  Meer gets credit because manshep in ME2 is passable instead of poor.

Thinking about it now, this is probably the reason I prefer playing as femshep.  The manshep voiceover in the first game was borderline painful to listen to, but Hale was as good as she ever was.  After that, I just grew attached to my girl through her struggles, pains and burden of responsibility.  For her crew, her surrogate family, she'd do anything.  Including being a methodical, underhanded, ruthless **** to anyone else.

I think it's also may be easier for me to relate to femshep simply because she is cast in a traditionally male role: that of the soldier, the outlaw, the warrior hero.
Plus she staggered a krogan warlord with a headbutt.  That is ten kinds of awesome and she scares me.:wizard:

Easy - quality voice acting and the fact that to me, Shepard's just another NPC whose morals I get to nudge with the dialogue wheel.

to each his/her own? does it really matter how other people handle it? if you can't, then don't.

Are you referring to me saying that most of the time girls are forced to play male characters?  If so, then no we aren't FORCED to play male characters.  But if we want to play 95% of games out there then we must.  Bioware tends to be the exception.  Either way it's something girl gamers have to accept if they want to keep playing.

I don't find Meer's VO painful at all.  As in ME1, he's fine.  Some lines better than others, but overall perfectly fine.  He has a few genuinely excellent ones.  ME1: "She'll stay with us, thanks."  ME2 "You talk too much."  The problem he has is one of comparison: as you rightly note, Hale is awesome.

And: 100% agree on the Krogan issue, although it was pretty cool when manShep did it, too.

I am guy, but I always play female characters in role playing games. As for romancing I rarely do it. But even in this case, I put myself in place of the male, not my character.

I went into it thinking I could get girl on girl action like the last game. Suprise suprise I was disappointed and haven't achieved the paramour achievement yet.

I got no problem with a male anyways, I am confident in sexuality and a butt won't change that lol.

Krogan testicles on the other hand. That might be upsetting.

Myself, I can't get into them.  But I definitely prefer playing a female toon over a male toon in almost every game there's a choice (but ESPECIALLY in ME 1 and 2 due to the superior voice acting of female Shepard over male Shepard).

In ME 1 I romanced Liara for my "main" Shepard and won't romance anyone in my final female Shepard going into ME 3.  I beat the game once as female Shepard, but reimported to try a different class (and to start with the 25% bonus to XP and such).

I did play one play through with a male Shepard to get some other achievements, and romanced Ashley - I am in the process of playing through ME 2 on this male character and it's not nearly as bad because Tali is so very cool, but through ME 2 my "main" is still my female toon.

But basically I play like "me" (I'm a guy), so I romance the female NPCs, but I prefer to look at a female backside over a male backside for the many hours most games take, so choose female whenever possible.  ME just makes it that much easier because renegade female Shepard is just so much cooler than male Shepard - just seems so much more believable with the voice that this is a badass who's doing whatever it takes to save the universe from impending doom.

Play a femshep, generally attempt to "get a girl" though :P

That being said I did grab garrus as none of the girls seemed intrested and just like Mordin I was intrested in the mechanics of it all ;)

I  can't, either. I'm not a good actor. Or actress.

My Femshep romanced Liara, and is staying true to her in ME2. I just didn't have any interest in the Male/Female relationships when it comes to my Femshep. Maybe because I am a dude? Could be.

If a game gives me the choice, I will play as a female character. I started doing this around KoTOR. Its an interesting perspective and they always end up being what I see as the ideal woman (for me anyway, each to their own), kindhearted, compassionate, very caring, loyal, strong willed, and willing to get violent only when necassary. Thats also a reason why my femShep romanced Liara in ME1, stayed loyal in ME2 and will continue to do so...FOREVER!!! Oh, btw, I agree, Jennifer Hale is awesome.

I play both equally because although role playing might be part of the name of the genre it's a hybrid of it's not really what I do in most my video games. I tend to look at them more as I'm writing and directing a movie as opposed to I am male/female Shep. I control the action and the dialogue but I am NOT the characters. So gender plays no major role for me, it's just a different avenue from which to direct my movie.

[edit here] WTF, didn't realize this was necro-bumped.
[more editing] WTF, not only a necro-bumped thread, but a necro-bumped thread I had replied to before it died, LOL.

I'm kinda the same as sinosleep. I don't project myself into the game as Shepard. If I imagine myself in the game at all, it's through some of the other characters, not Shepard.

Well being the open minded person I am, no problem for me.

If it really bothers you, imagine you are the male character and are romancing FemShep! :P

Wow that is raising an old thread. how do you even find such long lost topics on this forum ? I sometimes have troubles locating only a week old threads.

On topic. I am male and usually play male unless I want to get the paramour achievment. For that I usually play with a female Shepard.
