The back and forth between you people is making this topic creepier by the second.

I make fun of a friend who plays female characters all the time, and the fact that he volunteers at a local theater. Regardless of where those land on the ghey scale, he is married and doesn't have any sort of crazy psychological issues or etc. Hell, how many here played Tomb Raider? Is it really any different in a game where a female character is the only option?

I plead guilty to "Plays femshep, but is a man". I play as a femshep. I am a guy. My femshep's name is Nazara Shepard, earthborn usually, with ruthless profile. I play Renegade. Do I feel even a little bit weird playing femshep? No. Is it ghey? No. Does it feel ghey? No. Am I ghey? No. I am a straight man, and I play a femshep.

Of course, I go for Liara every time.

@OP

1) Ms. Chambers is VERY open minded

2) Bioware released LotSB 8 months after you started this thread ;)

3) With Gibbed/Hex editor you can easily romance females with femshep.

I never romanced a dude/alien-dude with my femshep, it is not just weird, it's also completely unnatural (yes, unnatural). here's why:

Technically, Femshep is just a female 3dmesh over the same skeletal model used by Maleshep. Seppard's movement, gestures and mannerisms are not unisex, they're ruggedly manly.

Also, I know that it's very open to interpretation, but the voice-over for the INT version is for femshep is just... Manly hard for me to imagine a more "male sounding" femshep. Also, the default femshep is a solider just like the maleshep. I would assume that a tech/biotic/support class would fit a femshep better.

Disclosure: I have served in the military with female combatants, and I do not support the "butch female soldier" stereotype in any way. I do not consider any of the things I've mentioned as "evidence" to the sexual tendency of any women in any occupational field, but when combined together, like in the femshep character, it makes one wonder.

Of course it's also possible that development considerations have constrained the design of femshep to be toe-to-toe with that of maleshep.

That's just my opinion.

I tend to feel most comfortable playing female characters in games - I am secure in and comfortable with my sexuality, so the idea of such a thing doesn't really bother me.

That said, I have only ever romanced Thane, because I don't much care for the other male characters. Jacob is bland, Garrus is Garrus and I never liked him much, but Thane is liquid awesome - charming, suave, handsome in an alien way. I'd probably also romance Zaeed given the chance. On the other side of that, I have fem romanced Liara, would have romanced Tali given the ability, and though I can't imagine anything long lasting with Miranda, would have at least had a fling with her as well.

You just have to be *in* your character, as it were. My characters also make decisions I never would if I were in their shoes, but when it seems appropriate I don't hesitate.

I have never romanced Kaiden with a fem Shep, though I would have with my male Shepard.

I almost exclusively play crpgs because I enjoy the roleplaying element; putting myself in someone else's shoes and seeing where our cooperative story will take me.

. going for the guy and being a guy, is either a gay trying to get some semblance of romance with another male or a guy/girl that is bi-curious.

Just my 2 cents .

In your professional opinion, is that?

As a psychologist, I can tell you this statement is ignorant.  People will play the character for different reasons, and pursue or not pursue relationships for different reasons.  For some it will about completion, for others it is about experiencing the story from a perspective they otherwise could not.

Humans, by nature, are curious.  And most humans are somewhat curious about exploring different relationship dynamics.  Romancing a male character as a female will be different than romancing a female character as a man. (or a female character as a female - though Liara being Asari there doesn't seem to be much of a difference based on your gender ... I would really like to see a lesbian relationship in the game approached differently than a male-female relationship ... because they will be different)

The fact that you are unwilling to try such a thing says as much about you as those who are willing.

I have played as Fem Shepard as much as Male Shepard and I'm a guy. I really don't see what the problem with playing as someone of the opposite sex and even gives the gameplay a different experience. I have romanced both of my Shepards with someone and almost all the time, the female was in a straight relationship (I'm probably going to get shot by saying this but as a love interest, I felt that Liara was too boring and was being forced as somewhat of a fanservice).

Of course, there are problems for love interests on both sides in ME2. Miranda doesn't seem like someone who is good for the long term, Jack is a walking cliche, Tali is only a love interest because of the fans, Jacob is bland, Garrus has too much on his mind, and Thane's own problems kind of makes it hard for me to go for it in some of my playthroughs. Plus, I felt that it wasn't as deep as the love interests in ME1. Even Liara, for all my criticisms about her as a love interest, is still a better one than everyone else in ME2.

But as far as being uncomfortable about doing a straight romance, no not at all. I really don't think of me trying to hit on some guy, I see it as another part of the story that can happen at any time, even if I can interact it to some degree. If that doesn't work, then I guess concentrate more on Female Shepard as much as you can if you are that uncomfortable.

My only Problem is that I have to initiate the romance as a female I know there are strong females but even strong females want to know your interested by "The Pursuit" If I have to chat the guys up it seems a little unrealistic.

If anyone wondered why old threads tend to get locked, even though there is considerable discussion that picks up where the thread originally died, it's because inevitably someone makes a direct response to a post made 8 months ago. Long after that poster has probably moved on to other topics and other things.

If anyone wonders how old threads are brought to life, it is a quirk of the lovely search function on this website where old threads are presented before the new.
