Pointless or not, it does seem to be the case that you MUST upload a character from the CC to get the Lucky Stone ring.Infostud wrote...

Can someone please confirm this? It seems a pointless restriction now that the game is for sale and BioWare gains nothing from people downloading a redundant piece of software.

On consoles, in addition to being logged into Xbox Live or PS Network, you'll need to log into the Dragon Age Servers using the above mentioned account info. If you have other EA games with online features for your console, they all have a similar method to get news or other features going, so you can check that out if you are curious how it work before DA launches.
