I wish being Paragon carried realistic negatives.

Let me get this straight..

You are surprised because choosing negative things brings more negative results than choosing positive things?

That makes me lolz..

Yeah, you're stupid as sh*t.

If you can't comprehend that idealism isn't the best answer to every situation, you really have no place playing an M rated game.

I do think BioWare will have greater freedom to add consequences to ME3 since it will be the end of the trilogy. I'm sure the variations they added were hard enough to account for, and they need to make sure that no matter how the game ends, the paragons and renegades are still in the same ballpark.

Since this arc should end next game, BioWare wont have to worry about story endings being radically different. I think there will be harsher consequences for renegades and paragons alike. I could see a Paragon ending where humans get bent over and a Renegade ending where humans become the dominant species. As a paragon Shepard, there are a couple of decisions I've made that I am nervous about haunting me. Pure paragons will likely end up curing the genophage and could likely cause a major issue.

However I'm not sure anything too drastic will happen. Imagine the outrage if a paragon choice led to the death of very popular squadmates and love interests. Back in the 70s, the writers of M*A*S*H suddenly killed off a popular character over a contract dispute. The fan base was so angry that the producers promised nothing similar would happen again. BioWare and EA are aware that a very large chunk of their paragon players want a fairy tale ending.

*snip* Hell, by taking a renegade stance with the council and paragon stance with TIM it's possible to alienate yourself from both cerberus and the council in ME2. *snip*

I laughed at the poor fools who did this... until I realized these were exactly the choices I made. -.-

I thought that there wouldn't be enough ships to defeat Sovereign in the first game if I saved the council (though I lost more sleep over basically killing the two asari officers of the Destiny Ascensoon than the council themselves) and I'd die before handing over the base to TIM so the whole galaxy hates me now. :(

The basic premise is - what goes around, comes around.
ME isn't a grimdark setting. It's a fairly realistic one, which means that yes, being Paragon (the so-called high road) isn't easy, and he doesn't magically purify everything he comes in contact with. He uses a pretty rational and humane approach without being the Lawful Stupid (except rare occasions).

Remember that even with what some call a "fairy tale ending" - say, we destroy the Reapers, unite the races, et cetera, - it won't remove most of the basic problems. There will still be poverty. Earth will still be overpopulated. Omega will still be a sh*thole. The wide gap between the "big picture" with which we're concerned is illustrated by that mechanic from Horizon. Sure, he's a cliche, but serves his purpose.
In short, we won't be able to have a Star Trek-like near-utopia, but we'll do our job of saving the galaxy at large and making it a little better on average for everybody - that's the Paragon way. Doesn't mean Krogans will start crapping rainbows.
