When I got Legion I wanted to question him to see what that piece of crap knows.   All I wanted to do was question him and then deactivate that turd again.

So I start talking to him and he comes off with some "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap.  And says that there is a virus that will wipe them out.  So I am thinking "good" they deserve it for all they did with the Quarians and how what they did to Tali's father.  There was no way in Mass Effect I was going to let him be a teammate, especially after my BFF just got court marshaled for treason for Geth parts.  I didnt trust him and think he only wants to be friendly now just to save the Geth.

And low and behold the freak'n shield came down and he was out.  I didn't want that.  So after regaining my composure from yelling at the TV, I reset my game to before I went to talk to him.

Needless to say I beat ME2 with him still deactivated.   Now with all of these posts praising Legion, I am wondering why no one sees it as a scheme...

I didn't activate him either. I was trying to RP, and honestly...a Geth I found in a derelict reaper would be the furthest thing from my mind after my entire crew gets captured and I'm about to go through the Omega-4 relay. Even if someone urged me too, it'd be too much of a bother. I have too much other **** to worry about without needing to worry if some Geth is raising hell on my ship. We should have had a "Bullet through the skull" option.

Yeah, he sheds new light on the Geth..i would say his conversations are probably more important plot wise then any other squadmates. (ME plot in general, not just ME2)

If you talk to tali in mass effect 1 even she says that the geth didnt attack until they tried to deactivate all the geth, they where basicly fighting for survival. You seem to think they all just fliped out one day and went on a killing spree.

Also I'd blame quarian politics and tali's dad for the exile.

The Geth are not evil anyone in their position would have done the same.

Wow, you're so ignorant. The Geth are anything but evil. You're just so blinded by your Tali fanboyism you can't see that. Kind of sad really.

yeah not talking to Legion leaves out SOOOOOOOOOOO much information, not only on the Geth " the TRUE Geth" and what the geth learned of the reapers ( who I point out they do NOT follow, only a very few number of heretics did)

there is also the scene with Legion, and Tali...and with a paragon response, you see what could be the first branch of possible conflict resolve being reached out there.

and yes, My Shep was RP'd out, and the urge to learn what legion was about, why he tried to ssame me, why he had my armour etc was worth the risk " and there IS alot of security in place with him" so In my mind I could NOT imagine not activating him.

Spoilers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spoilers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also as a warning, Legion doesn't say the Geth will be all killed by the Virus, he says they will all be change into "Heretics" or ones who worship the Reapers. So by not helping him, you are pretty much guaranteeing the Reapers a huge "Geth" army to fight for them. There are two factions of "Geth" one considers themselves the true Geth and they want independent growth, but are not against organics if the organics are not trying to kill them. The other "Geth" are the Heretics and they bow to alter of the Reapers, and are trying to kill all life.

I am not sure it was 'fanboyism' shinobi602. It may have been more disdain of what Shepard went through also in ME1 with Sarin and the Geth. Kaiden dying Citadel attacks.., yeah I am a little pied off. So no matter what the story this desparate AI was feeding me, I found I treated it more like an interogation and it trying to manipulate to save the Geth. So no, I wasn't going to have a non-organic be in my team. I guess I'll have to face the consequences in ME3.

I think it is fanboyism, especially after the "omgz my BFF got treasoned because of this arrghghg"!!

If you took the time to talk to him and gain his loyalty, you would learn that those Geth in ME1 are considered heretics by the true Geth. They are indoctrinated by the Reapers. The true Geth have absolutely nothing against organic life at all.

from how it looks.....your most likely going to have a geth army on your side....

and potentially the first steps for peace between Geth and Quarians depending on your choices.

The renegade path gets the same result. You start yelling at them about how stupid they're acting, and how it's your ship, and you expect them to work together...and Tali offers to trade information with Legion. It ends with Shepard smiling which suggests (s)he just acted like an ass to shock both of them out of their prejudices.

1. What they did to the quarians? you mean defend themselves from and unprovoked attack and attempted Genocide?
2.What they did to Tali's father? you mean fight back after being used as "LIVING" test subjects.

yep the geth are totally evil i agree<_<

well if he wanted to harm us he could have done it easily. I'm not sure if an AI like Geth would lie. I assume they would pretty much up front about their plans. I figure if you caught a heretic he would tell you how is going to eradicate his species. Also, if you do his mission he would not let you know about being able to destroy all the geth but the 1,183 true geth

It's obvious that Bioware is setting the Geth up to be an ally. If you didn't see that coming from the dialogues with Tali in the first game then... well, I feel sorry for ya.

also consider this.

The geth / quarian conflict parallels our conflict with the reapers " to a extent"

The Quarians developed the Geth for the quarrians own ends...the geth did as their programming allowed, and became self aware...quarrians freak, try to destroy/deactivate geth, geth respond with self preservation.

The Reapers left technology and such around for sentient species to find, and develop around...molding us into something for their own means... they come to do what it is they set us up to do...we react with self preservation.

in the end we are no different than the geth.

Uhh...I'm sorry. Did I just slip into an alternate dimention where the Geth weren't the primary villains of ME1? What's one more when you don't know any better?

Did you not learn anything from talking to Legion. The Geth in ME1 are a minority, they're heretics, lost and seen as castaways by the true Geth.

Theres more true geth than that. The 1,183 true geth he speaks of are just the ones within legion, dont think of legion like a person, think of him more like a ship with 1,183 crewmen inside.

Sorry, but Legion is an awful character.  He was the final guy I picked up, I thought that I would be launched straight into Omega 4 after getting the Reaper IFF (I thought the extra squad slot was for a DLC character in the future) and then this god damn Geth comes along trying to be nice, the same type of Geth that condemned the quarians to their current fate.  I did his loyalty mission and got his upgrade because I still wanted him to live knowing he's an important character (and I also wanted everybody alive for an achievement).  So after barely knowing him, I assumed he was pretty good at Tech so I sent him to be the specialist on the final assault.  I got everything as quickly as possible and he still died.  I blame him for everything, because at the end of the level I also found Miranda and Mordin dead (even though everybody was loyal and I had all crew/ship upgrades).  Legion should have never been introduced.

Obviously you missed something big.

Legion explains that the Geth working for Saren and Sovergiegn are "heretics" infected by a virus from the reapers.

with Legions help you either kill all of the Heretics or destroy the virus and send the surviving heretics back to Geth space.

The Quarians became afraid of the Geth and tried to genocide the entire race, the geth won the war in self defense.

Legion will likely act as the branch to a Geth alliance against the reapers in ME3 ending in the Geth allowing or relinquishing controll of the Quarian homeworld to the flotilla.

I never activated him...I was trying to role play. If my entire crew got abducted, I wouldn't risk activating something that I knew was a potential threat. Especially when I was about to go through the Omega-4 relay.

You mean defending themselves after the Quarians tried to genocide their entire race?
