As long as femShep doesn't pull a Miranda-scene and try to slam Joker up against the Engine room wall I think he'll be able to manage.
Oh, God, that hurts me just thinking about it.

Wow. Only today did I discover this thread and I honestly don't know whether I should be jumping for joy or have the blues. Brace yourselves, this is going to be long. =)
I'm generally not very active in forums, when it comes to pitching in my opinion due to lack of time mostly, but *this*...I HAVE to support this. I've played ME1 several times and I've already completed a quick play-through ME2. I'm a huge fan of the Mass Effect universe/setting and probably one with the fewest complaints. My ONLY and MOST EARNEST wish throughout the story was to be able to get closer to Joker, to finally be able to experience his personality and depth of thought behind the heavy mask of a simple comic relief device.
I can understand the difficulty some players have in taking Jeff seriously, with views ranging from adoration to neutrality (meh, he's funny) to downright annoyance. He's in essence a love-or-hate type of person and you can easily get confused about his motives and goals. It takes time and effort to understand him, to watch him and learn to read "behind the lines" as they say. Even then, he'll somehow manage to shock and surprise you. He is for me, the single character in any game I've played so far that can pack so much character under a thin disguise of cheerful immaturity, that after two whole games I still don't seem to fully understand him.
I'm glad that finally proper attention is drawn to him and hopefully it will have the desired effect. If *we* (his fans) do not speak, *he* will never be heard. He will pass on to the history of gaming as just another comic character.
My bemusement stops right about when I start reading some of the comments. People have used very strong words to describe the EDI/Joker relationship, words like: belongs to, is ideal for and even *engaged to* with comments summarizing a: "how can you be so mean as to get between them, they're obviously perfect for each other!"
Seriously people, has anyone even remotely considered what *Jeff* wants? The way I see it, it all falls down to his own choice in the end. We're not just talking EDI vs. Shepard here, even if all the Normandy's males/females where after him, he'd be the one to choose in the end (or choose no-one). It has nothing to do with anyone's personal views or morals on the matter, this is all about what Jeff wants and I want to find out what he wants.
The point isn't whether or not you hook up with him (if you do, all the best), the point is to get a chance to finally express your feelings to him, to look him in the eye and say "Listen, Jokey-baby, you make my world go round, deal with it!" no matter what the outcome, no matter if he chooses a krogan female over you! If he really wants EDI, he won't quit her, but if he wants you...don't you wish to know?
It just confuses me that people use EDI as a "shield' to not touch the Joker issue, that's what it seems to me.
That's what I love about Joker, it's incredibly hard to sum up what he's saying/doing. He's remarkably hard to read, especially in the second game. The most obvious for that is him joining Cerberus. You don't know if he really joined because he feels he owes you, because they offered him alot of money, let him fly. He merely brushes off your death, claims a simple 'hell yeah they let me fly' (and he didn't know about the actual Normandy till the night prior). The more I think about it, the more I'm sure Bioware did this purposely, I feel like over-analyzing the situation so I shall. Shepard's death is, most likely, still a very fresh wound. Two years seems like a long time, but for something like that, it takes longer to heal and I'm sure just because Shepard's alive, doesn't mean it's closed up. From what we know about Jeff, he deflects any and everything with dry sarcasm, only showing a mildly 'softer' side when it seems appropriate (pretty much...only after Virmire and...when you die). My favorite moment with Joker was after the crew gets taken and he expreses his anger about the situation by yelling at you. (Sorely interrupted by EDI, I like being yelled at by my crew, seems realistic...) That made me hurt, because you honestly don't know if he means it or not, even if he says he doesn't. (And trust me I would have left the people with the better guns, but EDI and Miranda made me take a shuttle and my entire squad for some stupid reason! D,
Joker is definitely 'love em' or 'hate em' kind of character, so are alot of characters in Mass Effect, Ashley, Liara, Jack, Miranda, Zaeed. Any of the characters can be like that come to think of it. Anyway. I am in the 'LOVE THEM AND THEN SOME' group. I like characters like Joker, especially from a romantic point of view. You have to work to get them to notice you, you have to fight to get them to open up to you, it's tough and challenging but ends with the sweetest rewards if your successful! I think it's a pilot thing as well as a lot of pilot-type characters seem to have the same personality types (this one just happens to not be romanceable ;____
I would love to see something like that play out, instead of Shepard being the one in control of the relationship, being the one that says "I want, don't want", it would be remarkably refreshing to see the role reversed and have someone else determine that. It could really work with Joker. If Jeff literally tells me in-game that his heart is only for EDI, I'd happily backdown (and probably sacrifice myself because I just got beat out by a computer...). In the second game there's no such implication. Joker never tells you he only has eyes for EDI, EDI sounds somewhat disturbed by the insinuation of Jeff flirting with her and...where the hell do people get this idea? I could easily imply that Garrus is flirting with the calibration of the ship's guns, but it doesn't mean they have a romance going on. So from now on, I'm replying to EDI posts with the fail picture.
I would be so happy to tell Joker how my Shepard feels and I would be happy with a 'Oh? Is that so?' response. Yes, him leaving me hanging would not be an utter disapointment to me, because at least I would be able to JUSTIFY why my Shepard hasn't had a single thought about sleeping with ANYONE on her ship...EVER. I would love to get the chance to know if there was a 'what if?' Just a small chance would make me happy. I'd be happy with him saying we could talk about it AFTER the reapers are dealt with, because then I'd know that there 'might' be a chance. I think alot of people feel the same. And as it's been stated before in this thread, and all the five billion Tali threads and the Garrus threads, Jacob, Jake...if you're not interested don't pursue it. I know I wasn't interested and it was hella easy to not get into a romance. (I just wish people wouldn't stop talking to me because of that...;_____

Joker seems friend-zoned.
Garrus is friend zoned, even while romancing you. I don't think it can get any worse with Joker.
@Tooneyman
Joker's quote is epic! I can even hear him saying it! But it's not necessary for him to look back. I believe we already have a kissing picture posted? (for more straightforward approaches)

I never got this lol, I always asked him if he was ok and he was all like i'll be fine, maybe I missed something.
I was just thinknig about it and I think we should write a petiton and get people to sign, send a copy to Bioware AND Seth Green, maybe if he sees all us fans into Joker he will get on our side, he probably doesn't even know Joker is as popular as he is.
I agree though that he is very emotional at the beginning and end and in between with Shepard, I find it to have more emotional meaning with femshep then with maleshep, but I guess we will just have to wait and see.

I agree that we ought to try organizing some kind of letter-writing campaign thing. Just gotta figure out who at BioWare to send it to... It's clear that BioWare is responsive to what their fans are saying (see: Garrus, Tali, departure of Mako), so with luck we'll at least get some kind of response.

This time, I'm sure I'll get yelled at. I go talk to Joker constantly. (And also, isn't this the scene that the EDI/Joker people keep citing as their proof? The fact that they both go "no, not flirting" and Joker refers to EDI as his mother doesn't... I don't know, throw a wrench into that idea?)

Yeah, this is the very scene that apparently proves they are meant for each other and are totally getting married in March. It's lovely in March I hear. >> Y'know, when I was courting my fiancee I totally called him 'pops', it's a real turn on, referring to someone as your parent. Totally.

Oh, and speaking of Joker's mom (whee random transition), did anyone else catch this line? At some point when you're hovering behind Joker's chair, he makes a comment about "If my mom could see me now, we'd have zombies on top of everything else." It didn't quite click right away, but I think his mom died at some point. Had to go an alter my head-canon notes when I figured that one out.

I heard him say that but...holy crap, it never really clicked! o______O;; Thanks for pointing that out, I'm pretty sure it means his mom is dead, sadly, wonder what the mother of Mr. Snarky-pants was like. -alters own canon notes-
