They're generally quite good about filling in gaps like that, especially in a universe as insanely detailed as the Mass Effect one. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt until ME3 comes out and we can perhaps get more information. And plot hole or not, the fact remains that he's clearly capable of much more physically taxing activities now.

Just out of curiosity, besides the Vrolik's, why would you have a problem with Joker being a romance option? I mean, I don't really like Garrus as an LI, but other people did so good for them; I just... don't flirt with Garrus. Why couldn't people who don't see Joker as a romantic interest simply take the non-flirting options with him and, you know, not hook up with him?

I don't really have a problem with it although really what would the point be.  Why do people need everyone in the Mass effect universe to be an LI?  To me it is such a small part of the story but seems to have taken off as the biggest aspect of the game.  Either way though it wouldn't bother me if they left well enough alone or added him as an LI.

Ohhh okay that actually makes a fair amount of sense. And I can kind of sympathize with you, I think BioWare went way overboard on the number of LIs in ME2, and none of them were all that appealing. But I think it makes at least some sense for Joker to be a possible love interest, far more sense than some other options. (I'm looking at you, Thane.) He's been a constant in both games-- one of a very few constants, actually-- and he and Shepard have a history and friendship. It'd be nice to see a romance grow out of a friendship, as opposed to "oh hi you're cute flirt flirt wanna screw?". You know, something a little more realistic and natural.

Plus I'm a total sucker for pilots. And guys with incredible senses of humor.

Fair enough.  I think it does make more sense.  Garrus and Tali were thrown in simply as fan service and really didn't make much sense to me either...speaking of plot holes.  Thane??? yeah wierd.  But I could see Joker at least as far as making a little more sense than some of the others.  So in that Vein......I support a Joker Romance option.

BOOYAH. I think this is the first time someone who's started off making one of the standard anti-Jokermance arguments has stuck around and actually talked with us. So thanks for that!

You people are ridiculous. Why don't you go play a Japanese dating sim or something, leave our epic rpg out of your romance fantasies.

The Tali thread folks are completely beyond hope. They've reached the "Twilight fangirl" level of creepy intensity.
I do not want to see that happen with the best crewmember in the game.

Don't judge a character by their fans. Tali has remained totally awesome, imo. I don't see why having a possible Joker romance would ruin him.

And if you don't want romance in your RPG, you are picking up games by the wrong company. There are several things that come standard-issue in a BioWare RPG, and romance is one of them.

Oh honey you're in the wrong forums! There's this thing stamped on the box of Mass Effect, it's called Bioware they like romances! I have a game you might like, it's called Halo, it's this game with no story where you run around jumping and shooting at the same time! Totally seems down your alley! No romances at all! <3

It's funny on the internet how whenever someone argues about your game of choice, the standard response is always to insult Halo.

Yeah, everyone knows there is romance in Bioware games, but...

Kotor:
Bastilia, Carth, Catgirl?

Jade Empire: Dawn Star, Silk Fox

Dragon Age: Morrigan, Lelianna, Alistair, Zevran

Mass Effect: Liara, Ashley, Carth, Tali, Garrus, Jacob, Miranda, Jack, Thane

TLDR; They gave you the most ever, there are enough already.

It's funny how on the Bioware forums there's always that one guy who comes into the Joker threads to be a prude. Oh hey, there you are. I feel I wouldn't need to resort to obvious Halo insults, if you didn't resort to telling us to play Japanese dating sims when we're just trying to talk to like-minded individuals and talk about how much we enjoy a character and simply would love more interaction with him, we'd be perfectly happy if we don't get a romance so long as they keep his role expanded and add more dialogue.

If you have beef with too many romances, take it up with the developers bucko, not the little Joker fan group.

Speak for yourself. I wouldn't be happy, I'll be quite sad if he's not an LI, but it's not going to, like, ruin my life or make me hate BioWare forever or anything. They better keep his role/character development at the same high level of pure AWESOME as it was in ME2, though. I'll be royally pissed if it falls back into "you get four unique lines one for each plot point enjoy". I mean, I very much doubt that'll happen, but still.

Oh trust me, I'd be thoroughly depressed if he isn't a love interest in ME3. I nearly went blue holding my breath for it in ME2. I was just saying that, if they happen to screw the pooch with a romance, at least knowing his role is pretty freakin' big like in ME2 would be...well better than nothing. Because, let's face it, Having to do the main missions to have any actual conversation with him was a huge disappointment in ME1.

But with how his role is in ME2, I can only see it becoming bigger and better in ME3! <3

There's a difference between wanting more interaction with a character, and wanting to jump his (brittle) bones. If this topic didn't have the word "Romance" in it, I would agree 100%. I already mentioned that he's one of my favourite characters in the game.

You do realize that there's more to a romance than sex right? Personally I'd love to see one without a sex scene. I would love to see them go back to KoTOR or even take a leaf out of Star Wars and do a romance that's not focused on getting into bed. Leia and Han had a romance that didn't involve sex, at all.

Exile and Atton began to have a romance, once again, no sex.

Carth and Revan. No sex, not even a kiss but there was still a romance, there were still emotions there.

I want to see something like that with Joker, where they can connect on an emotionally significant level rather than be spurned by lust and sex. And Bioware can do it. I'd be completely content with my Shepard not 'jumping his bones'.

I, for one, would be perfectly giddy if the Joker romance option involved nothing more than gluing together model airships. He's welcome to correct me on my paint job accuracy.  :3

Joker is already perfect in his role as badass/lighthearted comic relief. Adding dialogue where you "connect on an emotionally significant level" sounds like buzzkill to me.

Then that's why you don't pursue it. I thought making Garrus a romance option was baffling and made the badass vigilante too awkward, so you know what I did? I didn't hit on him. If it's not your cup of tea, don't pursue it like all the other five billion romances. Don't see why just because you don't want it, means the rest of us can't get it.

Then the problem is for the male fans. They add all this new dialogue for their favourite character but it's all romance stuff. Want to talk to Garrus as a male? Too bad, he's calibrating.

The guy can barely hobble around under his own power without breaking a femur, and you all want to **** - I mean, uh, "romance" him?

Come on. :P
