The first time I played ME2 and the subject of Shepard's death came up and all you get is, 'I saw you get spaced!' and Shep is all like, 'I was lucky!' I was...rather irritated. I wanted...a bit more, maybe a reaction you could chose from your Shepard like OMGAWD YAY JOKER! Or FFFFFF ITS YOU! Sort of thing, y'know? I was hopeful as the game progressed, thinking maybe something traumatic would happen and the subject would be addressed (I was also hopeful that they snuck a Jokermance in...>>) but really all you get is Joker making snappy remarks about it.
I was...kinda pissed the first time through.
But the more and more I thought about it, the more I got to thinking, I really do think it's in both their personalities to let it drop. Joker and, depending on how you play your Shep, both know they need to set their priorities straight since they have a suicide mission to focus on. They both probably think that bringing up how it's kinda Joker's fault that you die (best mistake he ever made imo) would get in the way of the mission. Sure, Joker's always dicking around but he does put the ship and making sure he's there for Shepard with his bamf flying first. Depending on how you play your Shep, the same could be said, that she puts everything else first before her own personal problems. (Even though she LOVES everyone else's issues...)
It's definitely in Joker's nature to pick apart the issue with humor and it's definitely in (at least my) Shep's nature to just ignore it. I notice that they made sure Shep doesn't really have her own issues, or at least ignores her personal problems (which I hate to a very extreme degree). I'm hoping, since the suicide mission is done that Bioware puts some personal stuff in for Shep to FINALLY be able to freak the fekk out to for once. It'd be interesting to see something happen where the topic of Shep dying gets brought up in a serious conversation and the two argue, seems more realistic to me if they yell at each other in frustration for not being able to really say what they wanna say.
Either way, I'm at least pulling that idea for my fanfic, but hopefully Bioware does something similar and addresses the issue in ME3...
AND MAKE HIM ROMANCEABLE DAMMIT!
