"Since the reality of play extends beyond the sphere of human life it cannot have its foundations in any rational nexus, because this would limit it to mankind. The incidence of play is not associated with any particular stage of civilization or view of the universe. Any thinking person can see at a glance that play is a thing on its own, even if his language possesses no general concept to express it. Play cannot be denied. You can deny, if you like, nearly all abstractions: justice, beauty, truth, goodness, mind, God. You can deny seriousness, but not play." Johan Huizinga from ****** Ludens

I'm 27, 2 kids (one that is four and one that is 2 months), live with my girlfriend and we have not one but two dogs!
I have a fulltime job aswell on top of this.
Damn, we "older gamers" are the ones who need these games the most! Atleast I need a break from my everyday life, wich I love, but it's great to escape once in a while!

25, have been playing since I was 5 or 6, I think.
Fortunately, fear of scathing ridicule (And the fact that I'm just plain awesome) keeps people from telling me to grow up, not that I'd do if they told me.

Too old to be playing games!
BAH!
I'm 45, married for 24 years with 4 kids.
I've been hooked on CRPG's since I got my hands on a C64 and Wasteland.
My wife and daughter can't keep their hands off my games either, so there's always some competition for the computer.
I cannot stand to watch others play, but when I play it becomes a "spectator sport" for some reason. Everyone loves to watch dad play ... I don't get it.
That means too that I have to wait until "the boys" are in bed to really get into DA:O.
Anyways, you're never too old to play games ... they keep the mind sharp and the fingers nimble.

Saying that one is "too old" to be playing video games is a very ignorant statement. It's like saying you're too old to play cards or chess. Those are games too. People who say such things are clueless. They will probably sit and watch television for hours, and have no problem with that. They don't understand that video and computer games are a form of interactive entertainment, and they more often than not have very limited imaginations. The average video gamer is over 30 years of age. I am 39 years old, and have been playing computer games for 25+ years, video games even longer (since the days of Space Invaders and Asteroids). I love gaming, and I always will.

I'm 30 and have a 10 month old baby. (And two houses, one of which needs a total renovation.) Its really hard to find the time to do anything anymore so you have to prioritize. baby > DAO > sleep > everything else.
My wife is pretty tolerant overall, but like MageAzen said, your world is about to change. Enjoy this one. Mass Effect was the last game I got to really dive into full tilt before my world changed.

yeah i have a complex - I'm 28, married and expecting my first kid. So I'm making the most of it - Again and again and again:unsure:
Everyone says I'm too old to be playing "games". ...So give me some reassurance here!! This games has a "mature" rating doesn't it?
31, on my second Marriage(married 1 1/2yrs - dated for 3prior) have a 1 month old daughter & 8 year old step daughter living with us. First Daughter & Son from my first Marriage living with their mother.
We are far from to old to be playing games. Younger gamers should be thankful to us older gamers as a whole - it's our generation that spawned the idea of "mature" games in general. Video games as awhole grew up right along side us & we were the test market for games that were originally concieved of for older markets. The fact a lot of people creating them are around our same age range and do so because they still love gaming, along with the fact that we bought them & played them when the concept was new is what made the idea financially viable & paved the way for the level of "mature" games we have now.
They say "you're too old" - I say "you're welcome".

28 and have been gaming since I was 10 and got my Nintendo. I have a wife and a four year old son who loves Plants vs. Zombies.
As another poster said, balance is the key. I spend time with my family, tuck them in around 10pm and then it's game time until 12 or so.
You're only too old when you can't click the mouse because of the arthritis.
