26 years old here started out on an Atari ST, people who say you or I are "too old" to play games mostly desire to play something like that themselves, but their pride etc may be in the way. I'm DJ/Producer on Bedrock and BozBoz (among other labels) people still ask me when I'm going to get a real job. So I get your drift, I reckon that as long as you can balance it out between life work and gaming you're fine but DA:O is pretty addictive

I'm 30. Have been playing games since I was 12. I don't think you'll ever be too old to play games. I mean lots of people in their 70's and 80's play Bridge or Bingo or other games. Why is that so different to playing a videogame?
It really makes my blood boil when people say that games are a waste of time. Then those same people sit in front of a TV all evening watching some reality TV show, or other rubbish, but amazingly that's not considered a waste of time!?
Luckily my partner is ok with me playing games (in moderation, which I completely agree with) and she enjoys playing herself once in a while. She is very fond of Dragon Age actually, so I want to applaud Bioware for creating a game that appeals to both Hardcore RPG'ers and casual gamers of both sexes.

Just turned 40 this week. My wife is a casual gamer who prefers puzzle games, yet enjoys sitting with me while I play RPGs sometimes. We played through Jade Empire together, which was a joy. DA:O is a bit dark for her tastes.
I have fond childhood memories of playing "Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord" on an Apple II, and of holding the black box with the dragon engraved on it... DA:O on a plasma/console is a bit of an upgrade.
To the OP... in my experience, just be true to yourself and everything will work out. What your wife thinks matters, so either include her somehow or encourage and support something she loves as well. In truth, if your family knows that you love them and that you will take care of and be there for them, then they will be good with whatever you're into.

yeah i have a complex - I'm 28, married and expecting my first kid. So I'm making the most of it - Again and again and again../../../images/forum/emoticons/unsure.png
Everyone
says I'm too old to be playing "games". ...So give me some reassurance
here!! This games has a "mature" rating doesn't it?
XD, most of my guildmates are/were over 25 (even up to 40...), the one who gave me my first rpg (which was zelda btw) was my doctor (he was 45 at the time... and playing video games since the start with pong and pacman... on arcade).
I'm 25, we are young... btw nobody is "too old" to play, chess players play all their life... nobody told them they were old. Saying that video games are child games in comparaison with more mature games (meaning more complex, like board wargames, card games etc...) and sports is common misconception, the act of playing is not a matter of age, it's like eating or sleeping, you can't have a normal happy life without playing from time to time (okay don't use that as an excuse to play 24h/7... let's be rational), and every one has his way of playing (it's like tastes and colors, you can't argue with that),so no, nobody is too old to play... but video games are new, so some people got scared or else cause they don't know the thing and it's not their way of playing, so they try to get you out of it (it's like 2 persons arguing on the color of the wallpaper, the one who wins is the one with the most influence at the time, nothing has to do with the color itself...).

28, 29 next month.
Seems offline RPG players have a rather high average age compared to other genres.

I´m 31 years old and have two childrens. 4 and 2 years old.
Plays only when the children are asleep.
Thankfully my wife understands that i like computer games and when I buy an new game she understands that I will focus my attention to the game for a while.
But of course it´s important to focus on your wife also

18 here, which probably doesn't reassure you at all OP. Been playing games since I was about 2, and watching my Dad play them since before then (Sitting on his knee, in most cases). My Dad would probably be more reassuring, an avid 51 year old gamer who loves his RTSes and FPSes

I'm 31 and I've been gaming since my parents bought me a ColecoVision back in 1982. I don't plan on stopping, well, ever! They have games in the afterlife, right?

I'm 37 married with 3 kids. This is my escape from reality, everyone needs one. Most of my friends also play these games or we get together and play table top. My husband and I are currently fighting over the XBOX because we both want to play, so I just orederd my own copy for the PC. You are never too old. Just remember to moderate the time you spend gaming with keeping up with reality and your responsabilities.

Also, I'm quite surprised that there are women on these forums.
Don't know why this surprises you. Female gamers are a smaller group thant the men for sure, but I've been playing table top role playing games for 20 years now, and I absolutely love these games an ocaisional escape from reality is good for you. If more women would try them instead of complaining about thier husbands and boy friends spending so much time playing them they would also like them I'm sure. Maybe that's what they are afraid of.
