When playing Dragon Age in tactical view, my framerate is such that the game is playable, even beautiful, though suddenly a tactical RTS. However, when zooming down to exploration mode, the game because ridiculously choppy, at all times.

I've tried turning all graphic settings all the way down, turned off shadows (which apparently only affects character models and not all the scenery...) and reducing the resolution to the lowest, all with the problem continueing.

Anyone have any ideas?

Before it's asked, yes, my computer is up to speed to be running this, yes I've made sure that nothing else is running in the background that's a resource hog, and no, my computer isn't going to overheat.

I have noticed at times the frame rate just drops, no explanation. I've also noticed that CMMD-Returning it to a window and then back oddly fixes it half the time.

Someone on Mac Rumor Forums awhile ago speculated the app has a memory leak.

The game slows down when you're looking ahead (rather than down at the ground) because it's drawing much more stuff. I get worse framerates in that camera view, and I'm running it on a 4850. Doesn't sound like a bug to me.

I have had the framerates drop to a stutter sometimes for no reason. Why I don't know. Sometimes I have to quit and restart the game.

On my girlfriends older macbook pro (A1150) the game is unplayable, even at all low graphics settings, except in tactical view OR if she is inside smaller rooms where she can zoom down to exploration view. Obviously the specs are at the low end of the requirement, but I just think DAO wasn't wrapped properly for use on the OSX. My two cents.

There definitely needs to be tweaks. I doubled my system memory and got no performance boost at all

I noticed that framerate systemically drops a few minutes after launching the game. It generally doesn't last long though, as if the computer had just been busy doing something else. But the game is virtually unplayable for a few minutes. Anyone else got the same thing?

If the game is slow the first few minutes it's likely because the OS is reallocating memory to the game from other open applications, whose memories are stored to disk (that process is quite slow). If you find it annoying, you can help it by quitting as many applications as possible before launching the game.
