I saved all the saves from the first Mass Effect on a memory card...tried transferring them to the system itself..but I still dont have a "Import Character" option in Mass Effect 2.

I also don't, for some odd reason, have a "New Game+" option in ME1...though I have the achievement for beating the game.

Is this a glitch and Im totally screwed? I even tried beating the first game again..after watching the looong credits, still no New Game+ and no pop-up asking me to save.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated..Im upset!Image IPB I want my super uber soldier paragon femshep!!

I have a similar, although somewhat different issue.

Some time after completing mass effect I had to ditch my old HDD, so copied my ME saves to a memory card. I only copied the most recent ones thinking they'd have the character information for each of my playthroughs. My mistake it seems was in only copying 'New Game+' files (which aren't even close to the end as far as I can tell).

So, am I totally screwed, or is the information for my first playthrough buried in these saves somewhere? Is bioware looking at a workaround for people who've lost their saves, such as an unlockable history creator? Or is my only option to get a copy of ME1 (I no longer have it) and play it through again?

Hmm.. unfortunately I did have some input but it sounds like you already tried what I was going to suggest. I had the same issue, and it was because Mass Effect 1 characters cannot be imported on an HDD that is not the original HDD that you beat the game on. However, (and this worked for me) you can load up your old save on the new HDD and re-beat the game to get your character to import to ME 2. If you already tried this I am stumped, but it definitely worked for me.

Have you always used the same xbox? Did you ever have an HDD?

When you complete a full game on ME1, a special (and hidden) save file is created on the HDD - I'm not sure if it was created on the MU, but if it was, you can't see it to copy it from the MU to the HDD.

The ME2 importer REQUIRES that this hidden file be on an HDD. If you do not have and HDD I think you're out of luck (blame MS DRM).  AFAIK, you cannot import ME1 saves from a MU.

If you DO have an HDD, then start ME1 with one of your last saves near the end-of-game (as close as you can get to the end). Then beat the game again and it should write the hidden save game file to the HDD so you can import in into ME2.

I've also heard (but not tried it), you might be able to either borrow a friends HDD or xbox+HDD and finish ME1 with that HDD, then start ME2, import your character, make your first save, then MOVE that save file to your  MU (you can't copy ME2 saves only move them).  Do NOT activate a cerberus code on a different xbox though, that's bad.

I had the original arcade xbox..where it only had a memory card and then it blew up. Recently, I got a new xbox arcade and thankfully my saves were saved on that memory card.

Is the HDD special to a specific xbox type? like the elite? Because maybe I can just buy that and go to the save where I beat saren and create a new save on the HDD?

HDD is the xbox harddisk. The arcade version doesn't come with a harddisk, but you can ADD a harddisk to an arcade xbox no problem. The MU is the memory unit (either built into some newer arcade versions or a little thing you plug in). The MU is MUCH smaller than the HDD storage wise.

The issue you're probably facing is that due to the way the Digital Rights Management works on the xbox 360, the ME2 importer utility can only import ME1 saves from a special file that was saved on the HDD (not the MU). So you need to complete an ME1 endgame with an HDD to be able to import to ME2.

Oh! Thank you so much BitBasher! I think thats exactly my problem...and I can just walk into say, an EBGames, and just buy the harddisk there ( or HDD :-D ) right?

Thank you also, JFLUX...I did not realize there was that huge of a thread already, I'm sorry for creating another one :-\\
