We don't even need to see anything. Nudity's not required. A LOT could have been implied by artful camera direction, etc. There was no need to tackle Turian/Drell physiology (I would say Quarian, too, but MaleSheps got a heck of a lot more in that department than FemSheps with their respective aliens.) - a hand on a bare arm, a bare human leg entangled in some bedsheets... wouldn't have taken much to get the point across.

I still would have rather had more conversation/confirmation of feelings during all of that myself... the presumed sex scenes would have been a bonus on top of that.

Agreed.  As I recall, God of War had full frontal, and getting into a bed with three chicks for a mini-game, but no romance.  So, the rule is that sex without romance is ok in video games, while sex with romance is strictly no-go.  As Joker said, "What the s***?"

I don't care that much.

I agree that the love scenes in ME1 were done better -- they were more intimate not because they showed sideboob or a bare ass or whatever, but just in the "camera" work and music and such. I would have liked that just fine, even if they didn't show as much skin.

... although I agree, I would have liked to see a bit more of Tali ;)

I was giddy when I thought I was gonna get to see her face, what a letdown. Hope they show her in ME3!

the romance scenes in me1 were tasteful, and i didnt see what some peoples big fuss over them was.  but, bioware did tone it down some with the second game.  but, thats their perogative.  they are still artfully done regardless.

I agree, even if nudity weren't shown there would've been more of a resolution to the love story with a brief tasteful love scene. It all just seems anticlimatic as it is compared to the first game.

Personally, I liked these love scenes in this one. It put much more emphasis on emotional romance rather than physical. I didn't mind.

See, that's the thing... I don't really think they did.
I liked ME1 scenes better not because of the nudity, but for how they worked the camera.  The scene I got seemed just sorta... truncated to me.  There was some nice dialogue beforehand, but the scene itself was practically non-existant.  In ME1 the camera work and the music implied more intimacy than ME2 had.

I would've settled for a close up of Sheppard with their eyes closed and bottom lip trembling for a brief love scene. Hard to imagine Fox News would go ape-**** over that.

Nonsense, we all know Shepard does it Varren style.

Or, the love scene could've just focused on Sheppard's twiching legs in bed, tender music playing in the background, then zoomed in on their feet and we see Sheppard's toes curl....... and that's when we know Sheppard climaxed. That'd be another way to have a tasteful love scene without nudity.

Especially not even Tali's face. Christ, I had been waiting years for *that* one.

Thoughts?

Bioware knows that and they are taking full advantage of it, enticing you along.

I don't really care one way or the other about the nudity, but it's pretty irritating that Faux News seems to have won despite the fact that their lies were easily and publically refuted.

To be fair though, it boggles my mind how many people were expecting to see Tali's face. If you'll pardon the overused internet meme: Common Sense Fail.

They should have said DAMN THE FALLOUT and gone with full on nudity. I'm sick of this useless facade the stupid few put us through. Basically, our society says, seeing people shredded to bloody bits is just fine, but GOD FORBID WE SEE SOME ******!

they didn't "cave in"  they just want to avoid a media fallout (like in the first ME) as well as prevent the game from being banned in other countries.

and stop blaming EA my god people

Blame EA all you want, I will stand by my statement that side boob was not integral to the ME1 experience.

You are correct, but I am pretty sure that is not the point the OP was trying to make.   The point isnt that "its necessary" but that sensationalist media reporting, got them to back off on how they originally felt the love scene should be artistically portrayed.

For example take any piece of art work, if somebody does a painting of a nude should the artist, cover it  up because "its not necessary"? Sure it may not be needed but thats how the artist chose to express themself.

Why should a game, rated mature have to censor itself, and recieve sensationalist press about the warping of childrens minds?  Why are they not crusdaing and having 2 hour news pieces on every R rated movie that shows a boob?  i am sorry but an R rated film is probably much easier for a kid to get ahold of than a mature rated video game.

Its just ridiculous that they felt they needed to back off.

It does bug me a bit that they scaled it down a bit as well, but overall, it doesn't bother me that much. Romances, (sans Kelly) that were more pure and emotional were handled with relative class, and the romances that seemed more lustful (Miranda especially) were handled with a appropriate amount of lust.

Seeing Miranda unzip her catsuit did a lot more to convey the passion for me than a brief glimpse of Ashley's/Liara's bare skin in ME1.

How else would you define caving in?

Caving in, essentially collapsing under the pressure, changing a previous held decision/belief due to out side pressure.

They were thrashed by the media, thus did not make the same decision they made the first time so they would not be thrashed again.  Hence they caved in.

Nobody is blaming bio/EA, I think everyone understands why they caved.  People are mad at the media because they basically out and out lied about the game, and because of how stupid the average person is, they believed it and EA/Bio didnt want to deal with any reprucussions it would have.

No one blames EA/Bio, but they did in fact cave.

I care less about the sex scenes and more about substantive romance dialogue which I hope will be in ME 3. It would be great to see well thought out and extended romances in ME 3 and their conclusions. Bioware is absolutely AWFUL when it comes to endings most times, usually opting for a line of text, so I hope after three games and nearly a decade of development that we get satisfying resolutions to whatever romances we have.

Nudity doesn't add anything to the experience. I think they showed us MORE then enough.

Yes, Bioware caved. But I have to question how it would've realistically affected sales if there were similiar love scenes in ME2. Did any stores refuse to carry Mass Effect after the Fox News coverage? I don't think it affected sales, after all millions of people bought the game, and I continue to see it available at major retailers. I think Bioware were being unnecessarily cautious here by dropping the love scenes in ME2, and who knows Fox News may have seen more brief love scenes as "same old" at this point and not even covered it.

Shoot, ME1-ish love scenes in ME2 might have even boosted sales further. I'd be willing to bet that there were quite a few people who wound up with ME1 solely due to the controversy surrounding its infamous love scenes.

I think it's a bit of an over-reaction, play for the plot and characters, while there can be 'nice'  visuals it doesn't need to be show all end all, let the imagine have some play guys.

Perhaps the fellow has some difficulty in that department... and thus the angst.

Same here... but that doesn't mean there weren't probably more than a few people out there who were like "Oooh, hot blue alien sex?!" and ran to get the game. xD

Hmmmm, hot blue female aliens........ could that be one of the reasons why Avatar is doing so well in theatres? lol
