I honestly wasn't all that crazy about the scenes in the first game. Even if you're a girl romancing Kaiden, you see more of YOURSELF naked than HIM. It's very blatantly from a male perspective and pretty annoying as a girl gamer when you're playing it.
Not that I'm demanding they have a shot of Kaiden's ass in the next game, but I liked the romance scenes in the second game better since they focused more on the emotion in the scene rather than FemShep's curves. They cut off a little too quickly, I think, and I would've liked to see an after-the-fact scene like in the first one, but I don't miss the nudity much.
I honestly don't buy the "THEY CAVED TO FOX NEWS" argument, either. You guys have no proof it was fox news that did it. I think you just want alien side boob.

Fox "news" was the only one that made an issue of it.  And I could care less about alien side boob,  If that was what I was really after, there are plenty of search engines on the internet.  The point is that Fox "news" is the shortbus of news reporting.

Bioware caved in to those stupid conservatives and cut the nudity? Really?

[snip]

Thoughts?

My thoughts are that you shouldn't stereotype all conservatives based on the lunacy of one moronic woman who didn't do her homework.

Stereotyping any group, especially based on the actions of a single individual is a form of prejudice and hatred, it's the kind of thing that has caused everything from teeth getting knocked out, to countless people to dying in pointless wars for centuries and more. Just some food for thought.

People on both side of the isle have a tendency to do that. In fact, it's not really a political thing. This comes down to human nature. People talk out their asses and work on rumor and assumption.

I've done it, and you have too. Primary difference being you probably haven't done it on national television in front of millions of people. She paid for her mistake though, so I'm sure she won't do it again. I think it's time to give her a break, and let it be the past. Live magnanimously, you'll breathe easier.

Ultimately, I'm not sure "those evil conservatives" had much to do with this decision anyways. See the thing is, regardless of whether it is "sex in video games is immoral!" or "omgosh sex sex sex let's focus on that and ignore the rest of the game, cause it's so cool!" (two ends of a spectrum), it's just too distracting from the point of the story.

The message of the game is not Miranda's nipple.

Indeed, it's her ass.

Here I thought this was a thread about Talimances Image IPB.

I would hadly call a small segment done on American Fox News "media outlets" as far as I can recall they were the only ones who even mentioned it and controversy can certainly move product as well as snag viewers. Nudity of any type is not integral to the type of game that Mass Effect is, now if it was a sex game then it would be. Nudity or lack there of neither increase nor decrease my enjoyment of the game.

Blame EA all you want, I will stand by my statement that side boob was not integral to the ME1 experience.

Whatever you might think of the sex scenes, or the lack there of, I think it's not fair to blame EA, implying that now that Bioware got bought by a big company they are constrained by evil corporate money grabbers. Dragon Age was released under EA and contained more sex than any other game that they had done before. Dragon Age even for the first time included meaningful homosexual love and sex scenes in a game.

Feel free to criticize Bioware's decisions if you would prefer them to do things differently, but come up with some better evidence if you want to imply that Bioware's artistic freedom suddenly have become more constrained by corporate finance because they got bought by EA.

yes. That's my point. Fox News was the only one that cared. Why would Bioware care? They could've had other reasons for making ME2's scenes different.

Personally, I liked these love scenes in this one. It put much more emphasis on emotional romance rather than physical. I didn't mind.

See, that's the thing... I don't really think they did.
I liked ME1 scenes better not because of the nudity, but for how they worked the camera.  The scene I got seemed just sorta... truncated to me.  There was some nice dialogue beforehand, but the scene itself was practically non-existant.  In ME1 the camera work and the music implied more intimacy than ME2 had.

I will give you that. The music for the love scene in the first was phenomenal. I think they could have had more length and camera like you were talking about but I didn't mind the scenes in this one. (Tali's and Garrus' were especially short)

EXACTLY!!!
Especially with Tali.  It reinforces that it's not about the physical relationship as it is how she feels about you.  She's willing to risk death itself just to be with you.  And you don't even know how far they went, you can only make safe assumptions.  I feel like it wouldn't have been as deep had you seen a half naked Quarian, or any form of Quarian nudity.

Agreed. who cares if a lawsuit happens due to nudity, we've all seen it before! I mean, it is an M RATED GAME. Good Lord, GTA 4 has it worse the ME ever did, and you dont see them starting to censor anything whatsoever.

In movies and video games, I would prefer a romance scene to be more suggestive and leave it to the individual's imagination. If I wanted a full out sex scene, I would go watch porn. I think the suggestive (cutaway type thing) is much classier and enjoyable. And I don't feel dirty for watching it haha.

Nudity is fine as long as it genuinely adds to the story. Nudity is not fine when it's included just so 30yr old virgins living in their mom's basement have something else to spank to. I am perfectly fine that ME 2 doesn't have it. I don't think the game needs it, or the game is lacking without it.

Especially not even Tali's face. Christ, I had been waiting years for *that* one.

Thoughts?

Maybe in ME3 we'll have found a cure for the Quarian's shoddy immune systems, then all of the little buggers will be running around without their masks on. After so long in suits, they'll probably opt to go entirely au naturel.

I think they just decided to not deal with any stupid fallout, and side boob didn't add much to the initial experience anyway.

Actually I thought the ME1 scene added quite a lot to the game and the characters.  It was tastefully done and did a good job of showing the passion between the characters.

The ME2 love scenes really fail to convey much emotion at all.  The only one I thought was well done was the Tali one and they totally copped out by not showing her face.

As to whether or not BW caved?  I think they did a little, I'm sure the negative press had more than just a little impact on their decision to go the way they did with the ME2 romances.  It's a shame too, I don't think anyone wants gratuitous nudity but we have certainly taken a step backwards.

Agreed with what's quoted.

Nudity, in any way, needs to be tasteful. You can throw in full frontal nudity, even male genitals or whatever, if it just... fits, artistically. If the nudity serves a purpose.

In ME2, nudity would have been a big mistake in my opinion as the romances alltogether felt very unemotional and well.... very superficial.

In ME1 you could feel the romance, the emotions and the amount of nudity was very tastefully expressing that.

Well if they were gonna put nudity in the game. Then the scenes would have been different. And i have no doubt that it would have been done tastefully. The scenes we may have gotten, in that case, might have been better and have a little more emotion in them. Of course they could have ended up worse too. But I guess we'll never know.
