So I hate the Oscars, I've never liked them, but I recognize the impact and revinue they generate for the films that get nominated and more so for those that win.  Every once in a while I see an excellent Indie film or low budget sleeper enter the nod categories, but normally the Oscars only play to bombastic, ridiculously over produced movies.

Here's the list of Oscar nominees for 2010 oscar.go.com/nominations/nominees

One movie this past year, I thought, was grand enough in material scope and insightful, thought provoking commentary that it would maybe break into a couple categories, even though it was a sleeper with a budget of only 5 million.  I'm talking about "Moon", Directed by Duncan Jones, David Bowie's son.  It starred Sam Rockwell almost exclusively with music composed by Clint Mansell (Requiem for a Dream).  The movie is now, in at least, my top 20 favorite movies, if not top 10 and yet it received a staggering zero nominations.  Not one, not best editing, cinematography, writing, directing or best Actor.

Jesus, even The Blind Side is nominated for best picture... Really?  Wow... that's pathetic.  I suppose since Distrect 9 was nominated at all that they'll exclude Moon because it's also a thought provoking movie set in a sci-fi setting, can't have too many good movies up there, we better crap it up a bit so as not to seem logical and respectable.

I swear, this nomination list has really reaffirmed my hatred of the Oscar Panel and the entire event in general..  Hope Avatar with it's rehashed 1000 times script and bad writing likes it's 9 awards (It WILL win almost every category they put it in, you know it will) because it certainly doesn't need nor deserve the awards. Bah, I hope Moon gets some good DVD sales at least, it made less at the box office than what it took to make.  Why does society hate quality cinema?  I'll go grumble myself into a corner now...  <_< Oh, and discuss

I'm not an "Avatar" fanboy, but it was upsetting that none of the actors/actresses got nominations at the Oscars. I personally think Zoe Saldana deserved some nominations at least.

But these award shows are ridiculous. I've stopped watching them a long time ago and I usually read about it the next day. Their choices never seem correct and you're always left with the feeling that there was some politics involved or something.

I'm appaled that they would consider giving Inglourious Basterds any awards, let alone 9. I don't know...Comedy/Spoof movies should get a seperate category. It hurts to see it up there with Hurt Locker and District 9.

I've never been much of a fan of the Oscars either.

However, there is hope yet: if anyone pays attention to the Razzies, the nominations are up. I don't expect many (if any) stars to attend this movie awards show. They only seem to congregate when the promise of praise is in the air, and not when they have to listen to what others really think of their movies.

the blind side is actually a good movie. if anything, i'd be upset about the smurf murder movie being nominated.
