So did anybody actually think that the resource scanning mini-game was fun?

I would've preffered it if the scanner upgrade had been a planetary scan that highlighted the higher concentrations of minerals. But *shrug*. Personally, I preffered the Mako - with that I could see what I needed, pull up a map and just go there.

Yeah, with the Mako at least we got to enjoy new alien landscapes, some of which were pretty cool. With the scanner I just feel like an idiot. Surely the Normandy has someone other than it's commanding officer to do such menial tasks?

Not fun, but a vast improvement.

I loved the idea. For the first 2 or 3 times. After that... it was a real pain.

No.

But if your smart, you realize you don't need to spend more than 2-4 hours doing it (spaced out over the span of a 30+ hour game) and thus, should not complain too much. It could be grinding Iron Nodes in Arathi Highlands.

Yeah. I did. For the first 4 or 5 planets.

I enjoyed it at first. It did get tedious after a while, but I was doing it while my dad watched and he seemed interested in "playing."

So I handed him the controller and he mined for a few hours while I did something else. Win.

I understand why it was made... and it is better than ME1's resource fishing....

But I wish there was a better way, I just go into a daze when I do it to save my sanity.

*shudders*

Yeah imagine doing the resource gathering Mako style... akin to all those MMOs grinding resources that would've been even more time consuming/tedious.

Mako was best when used on the skyway and on Virimire. Yes it was fun the odd couple of times on the planets but I have faith that everyone will forget the Mako when we get the Hammerhead.

Also it is funny to probe Uranus...

I am glad it is not fun because besides gathering resources for upgrades it is actually counter-productive. Excess resources do nothing besides drain your cash in probe buying.

I would like to have the ability to (If Shep stays with Cerberus) launch a probe in a particular vein and build a mine. After so long it begins a steady stream of resources. If not then a wide scan that will scan the planet in a few second and leave a marker where the most useful resources are. But in all I did enjoy the quiet time away from 15 minute shoot outs on Insanity with a Vanguard.

If I had to choose between the scanning of planets or the MAKO, I'd take the scanning any day. I hated the MAKO

I like it. It makes for a nice relaxing break after murdering a ton of dudes. I can eat a sammich while I scan for minerals, not so while Garrus and I become Back-To-Back Badasses.

I enjoyed scanning planets. It gave me a sense of accomplishment and added to the space travel thing for me. On the 360 it was a very slow process but on the PC you dont even really need the upgrade because it is so fast already.

Approaching defended bases, fighting thresher maws, and driving the Mako in the story missions was lots of fun...but just driving through the Swiss Alps looking for minerals was pretty brutal.  And being a completionist I was always so compelled to do so...

Personally I thought that it was the most pointless waste of time I've seen in a recent game. It made me almost groan from boredom. Just having a "scan" button like in ME1 was a much better option IMO. Thoughts?

It was less time consuming than planet exploration, but every bit as dull.  So it takes less time, which is about the best thing you can say for it... particularly if you know how much ore you need for all the upgrades, so as to avoid over-mining.  I did like the occasional 'Anomaly Detected' N7 missions, which helped break up the monotony, so that was nice too.  But mining 'fun'?  No... not at all.  Better than planet exploration, though.  That crap took 10 hours on a completionist run.  Mining takes around 2 - assuming you know when to stop. (50k element zero, and between 160-300K on the other stuff.)

I wouldn't say fun... but satisfying in an OCD sort of way.

Example, I'm looking for platinum, I find a huge spike of Iridium, I should ignore it but I CAN'T, it is too tall, I have to mine it! LOL

And there's that oddly satisfying feeling when you drop a planet from Rich to Good or what-not, and the slimy guilt when you realize you have depleted an entire planet of resources.

i only liked finding the anomolies/sidequests. the mineral farming was very boring and even painful on my hands/wrists/thumbs over prolonged exposure.

I liked it. Really, gathering resources is fast as long as you watch out for spikes and instead of strip mining planets, I thought. Vastly, vastly prefer it over the Mako. I can't repeat that enough!

Plus, I found that finding anomalies and discovering N7 missions that way was really fun. It's still fun 3rd play-through. But to each their own, this is just my opinion.

On a subject of mini-games, hacking and circuit mini-games were also much superior to ME1 way of doing things. Kudos to the devs who came up with it.

It was boring. I felt like i spent half the game scanning planets. They could atleast add some gauge that tell u in advance what kind of resources are on the ur scanning, so u can prob only the planets u need. The game needs alot more ways to earn credits. I reckon that if u collect all the credits in the galaxy, u have about enough to buy everything in all shop, and some change. meaning we won't see new shops with plenty of items in the dlc... the option to sell resources for credits is a must!
