So did anybody actually think that the resource scanning mini-game was fun?

But if your smart, you realize you don't need to spend more than 2-4 hours doing it (spaced out over the span of a 30+ hour game) and thus, should not complain too much. It could be grinding Iron Nodes in Arathi Highlands.

So I handed him the controller and he mined for a few hours while I did something else. Win.

But I wish there was a better way, I just go into a daze when I do it to save my sanity.

Yeah imagine doing the resource gathering Mako style... akin to all those MMOs grinding resources that would've been even more time consuming/tedious.
Mako was best when used on the skyway and on Virimire. Yes it was fun the odd couple of times on the planets but I have faith that everyone will forget the Mako when we get the Hammerhead.
Also it is funny to probe Uranus...

If I had to choose between the scanning of planets or the MAKO, I'd take the scanning any day. I hated the MAKO
Approaching defended bases, fighting thresher maws, and driving the Mako in the story missions was lots of fun...but just driving through the Swiss Alps looking for minerals was pretty brutal. And being a completionist I was always so compelled to do so...

It was less time consuming than planet exploration, but every bit as dull. So it takes less time, which is about the best thing you can say for it... particularly if you know how much ore you need for all the upgrades, so as to avoid over-mining. I did like the occasional 'Anomaly Detected' N7 missions, which helped break up the monotony, so that was nice too. But mining 'fun'? No... not at all. Better than planet exploration, though. That crap took 10 hours on a completionist run. Mining takes around 2 - assuming you know when to stop. (50k element zero, and between 160-300K on the other stuff.)dan107 wrote...
Personally I thought that it was the most pointless waste of time I've seen in a recent game. It made me almost groan from boredom. Just having a "scan" button like in ME1 was a much better option IMO. Thoughts?

Example, I'm looking for platinum, I find a huge spike of Iridium, I should ignore it but I CAN'T, it is too tall, I have to mine it! LOL
And there's that oddly satisfying feeling when you drop a planet from Rich to Good or what-not, and the slimy guilt when you realize you have depleted an entire planet of resources.

Plus, I found that finding anomalies and discovering N7 missions that way was really fun. It's still fun 3rd play-through. But to each their own, this is just my opinion.
On a subject of mini-games, hacking and circuit mini-games were also much superior to ME1 way of doing things. Kudos to the devs who came up with it.
