I enjoyed it, and I knew well enough not to bother scanning poor planets (and I just took quick looks at moderate planets to see if there was anything I needed if I was really short on one particular element).
So did anybody actually think that the resource scanning mini-game was fun?

Everyone I've got spades in my garage, if you like to dig for hours you can set me up with a new swimming pool.

It was better then the Mako, thats for sure.
With the Mako, it was AWESOME, and AMAZING, and SO COOL, on the first 2-3 planets, hopping around was a totally new experience, and it was just great. Then you started to realize every planet was a copy paste of the other planets except they have a few more side things. Then you found the godawful minigame attached to finding resources. Then you found out this is the system they removed good sidequests for.
And then I hated the Mako with every fiber of my being, and still do to this day.
I think a lot of people didn't realize how to use it though, I honestly only had to scan 3-4 planets before I was able to fully upgrade my ship, and most of my weapons, which made it actually not that bad for me, while most of my friends suffered because they tried scanning EVERY PLANET. Just go to the Rich ones, and scan them down to Good, and as long as you get a varied amount of resource planets ( ie not three Irridium Rich planets ) you should have maxxed out all your bars by the third or fourth one.
Anything below Good is just a waste of time to even scan tbh

I liked it. Nice change of pace from the nonstop shooting, and you could do it or not as you liked.
this. There's no need to spend hours and hours searching for resources and it was fun.

Alright. Could have done with some markers, rather than random searching. But otherwise, a nice idea.

I enjoyed it. The first upgrade I got for the Normandy was the scanner one, so scanning wasn't slow. I also like the idea that the resources are actually used for something. I always found riding Mako to that very deposit located on a 90 degree slope a bit pointless, since it would only count towards absolutely unnecessary side quest.
PS. Oh and don't forget the anomalies! Nice way to implement side quests. I remember the first anomaly I detected. It was at night and damn those sounds even scared me a bit!

it was epic, never felt a more satisfying feeling then seeing that spike on the scanner thing. best adrenaline rush EVER!

It was only fun when I was watching "How I Met Your Mother" episodes and relying on the vibration of the controller as a signal for a high spike in the resource.

I sort of liked it, it was more enjoyable my second playthrough since the resource burden was vastly reduced by all the bonus resources you start with. Made it a little less of a chore. Especially finding element zero. :cringe:

In a way I didn't mind it, although it was a bit boring, since it did make you feel you'd earned or worked for what you got.

It's faster than driving to it with the Mako, and it's actually worth something.

I hated it, it's the only reason I don't think I can face another playthrough. I'm on the 360 though and I've heard it's alot faster on the PC so maybe it's a case of consol players hating it and PC players liking it.
I've never played it on PC though so if anyone has played it on both maybe they can confirm if its faster/better on PC

Did get boring after a while, but overall, I enjoyed it. Adds depth. I'd like to keep the scanning around for ME3, along with the upgrading and researching. But I'd also like to see the occasional Mako mission, like the first half of Virmire. Not a big, empty planet though.

I did but i still miss the mako. (one of the few) lol
Id like them to add more to it though. Like more then just land mission anomalies and mining. id like to go down to cargo and see them unloading the resources I got and putting them away. Would like to scan and find new pets for me cabin and have the choice of keeping them and if I choose to keep a certain one have a mission along with it. (a plant that over runs the ship) stuff like that.

I wouldn't necessarily say I enjoyed it, but it didn't bother me at all.
I suspect most of the people that loathed it are the ones who endeavored to stripmine the entire galaxy in marathon(s) rather than just cherry-picking resources from the rich planets as needed.
It was only as bad as you made it.

I dont think that it was a "bad" minigame, its just the fact to get upgrades you had to spend forever doing it, where the other ones you might spend a total of 10 minutes in the entire game, this one might have taken 2 hours.

Meh, I preferred it to the Mako in low gravity.
