Honestly, I see a lot of animosity from the Talimob toward Kaidan. And as a female gamer, I get extremely frustrated at these insipid, nose picking pricks that have nothing better to do with their lives than to constantly parrot the same **** over and over again. Can any of these people hold an intellectual conversation without simply rephrasing their sentences every time they try to make their argument?
I've been deliberately avoiding most other threads on here because of this. It's a shame because I do believe wholeheartedly that there's quite a few decent, mature and intelligent gamers here (both male and female) that post, but they often get overshadowed and overshouted by those with small minds and way too much time on their hands.
I like Tali as a character for the most part, but I do find her well...not all that interesting overall.
I think and this is just my opinion and likely a huge generalization at that, but part of the lure for some for Tali is that she is non threatening and sugary sweet...and then you add in the whole mystery under the helmet thing and you got a whole lot of fanboys foaming at the mouth...I think some consider Tali as the type that would bring them their slippers and gush and giggle over how bloody "manly" they are and some guys out there (especially those that lack serious experience with women) are really into that sort of thing...it's an ego trip plain and simple methinks.
When it comes to the Kaidan hate thing, I firmly believe that most of that comes from well...insecurity and conflicting messages about gender roles. They see a guy in a game who is not burping the start spangled banner, hitting everyone over the head with his giantic (usually overcompensating for something here) weapon, scratching himself and hitting on everything with a pair of boobs and a pulse and for them that just automatically equates to boring and wuss-like.
And let's face it Kaidan is a man who exhibits both shyness/nervousness/emotion around the woman he's attracted to and for those who fancy themselves suave cassanova ladies man types (whether they actually are or not is debatable), that just equals weakness right there.
I think that there is a large percentage of the male population (especially the younger lads) that are convinced women go ga ga over the bad boy/loudmouthed jerk/player types and when they see evidence to the contrary (and there's usually lots of that, especially when they actuallly ya' know TALK to women), it just boggles their minds and sends them in to testosterone overload.
I've got no real beef with those who don't care for Kaidan, I suppose it is their progetive, I do take offense at how some of them express it though......it just seems really silly and senseless to me. I'm not all that fond of Miranda to be honest with you, there's just something about her that I don't like but I'm not ranting and raving and taking apart her character, I just don't really talk about her...
I like Kaidan's character a lot, oh hell I LOVE Kaidan's character a lot....and I am attracted to men in "real life" who exhibit similar qualities to our favorite L2...
Ah, Also and this is just a theory that I'm throwing out there and again stressing that this is just my opinion....I think there has been a huge rise in numbers of female gamers over the past decade. For quite some time, the video game realm was largely dominated by male players and thus most games were geared towards such. But since we ladies have taken our seat at the gaming table and devs have started to notice and create characters and game scenarios (especially the ability to play as female) that cater to us, maybe there is some resentment from some of the guys that we are encroaching into their territory?
Oh hell, get used to it boys...we are here and we want more Kaidan and character's like him...
