When it comes to the Kaidan hate thing, I firmly believe that most of that comes from well...insecurity and conflicting messages about gender roles. They see a guy in a game who is not burping the start spangled banner, hitting everyone over the head with his giantic (usually overcompensating for something here) weapon, scratching himself and hitting on everything with a pair of boobs and a pulse and for them that just automatically equates to boring and wuss-like.
And let's face it Kaidan is a man who exhibits both shyness/nervousness/emotion around the woman he's attracted to and for those who fancy themselves suave cassanova ladies man types (whether they actually are or not is debatable), that just equals weakness right there.

Right! I wanted to comment on that too, I really don't think they will have an unhappy ending with ME3 at all. This is more of a feel good sci-fi not matter how dark and M rated as it can be. Consider the ending to ME1, ultimate fuzzy and cheesy hero ending, I'm expecting something just as epic and grand and yeah happy.
Maybe if you got Kaidan back, you'll stare off into the stars with him at your side.

I really loved the feel of the first game. Epic and heroic. I smiled when the human crew were as excited as kids on Christmas to see the CItade for the first time. I got chills the first time I shot through the elevator on the citadel and stepped outside. I was so emotionally invested in my character I was about to throw the controller at the screen when it looked like I had been crushed by Soverein-Nazara. And of course I was immediately relieved when I saw my Shep navigating the wreckage in the back. I fell in love with Kaidan slowly, over time, and at the perfect pace. The night before Ilos made my heart warm when Kaidan told me that I "made him feel human."
Not that I don't like the second game, but I hope they leave the darker feel behind to go back to the origional atmosphere. I loved it. Made me feel like a kid going to the science museum for the firs time again. (Yeah, I was a nerd growing up. Nothing has changed.)
I don't know. There's just enough dark, evil things in the world without adding anymore. That's why I'm not a fan of thrillers/horror. Not saying that's what ME2 was like. There's just..too much crap out there already, ya know? When I get lost in a fantasy world, I wan the good guy to win, get the love interest, and ride off into the sunset, because it happens to rarely in real life.

ME2 just felt depressing...Femshep died, Cerberus manipulated her, Kaidan wouldn't come with her, etc. I can get death,manipulation, and rejection in the world...why do I want it in a game. Don't get me wrong, I like the game...just not as much as I did the first one. Even with the improved gameplay it fell short of the first one in my opinion.

lol Emo chick reporting! Those are the reasons why I prefer ME2, it's much more emotional and frustrating. Now my Shep is fed up and ready then ever to kick Reaper butt and anybody else who even dares to say: "Reapers shmeapers, you've dreamt them Shepard!"
