At least that's hopefully the case, otherwise the devs are going to have a lot of not so pleased players players on their hands...

Alls I want is a Kaidan in my squad. He saved me from all kinds of things in ME1. He even jumped in front of Shepard-bound rockets.

Oh believe me, I'm in complete agreement here...I want Kaidan back in ME3 with a burning, fiery, borderline obsessive passion...
Altho' admittedly the first time I played through and finished ME2, I had gone with Thane and got the paramour achievement (isn't it for just succesfully romancing a squad member?) That was a brand new non import Shep tho', so I'm thinking that might make a difference. I think it was mainly because I was curious, and hadn't played ME1 in almost a year so wasn't really jonesin' for Kaidan all that much at the time.
I'll tell you it wasn't until I got to Horizon and actually saw Kaidan again that I remembered how much I loved his character and just how bloody hot he was...<3
Since my first playthrough of ME2, I've gone back and played through ME1 again (and am on another run of it because I want a stronger save to import over), and I'm totally 100% converted back to Kaidan love...I can't see my Shep with anyone else
I'm thinking that there might be something unique about the returning LI's in ME3, but I'm trying to sort of rationalize things here so I don't get myself into a tizzy over the possibility of losing another chance with Kaidan...

Honestly, with what they did in ME2, part of me expects something ridiculously small because their promises were way out of proportion with what was actually in the game.
Then there's still the other part of me that thinks that everything will turn out alright.
I've been working on my Insnaity playthrough and noticed something interesting during the Collector Ship.
I did a LOT of reloading and redoing. Both because the final battle is tough, but also to try to figure out how the Paragon/Renegade thing works. Anyway during the tons of reloads that I did, I noticed something interesting during one of the loading screens.
"Your actions may have dire consequences in ME3!"
I find it interesting on their choice of wording and using the word "dire." That implies some some of our choices will have HUGE effects. I'm hoping Kaidan is one of those.

I couldn't agree more. Kaidan is so my hero. I missed him so much in ME2.

Then there's the picture which is basically a way to check if your faithful flag is still working.
I also believe they can judge the dialogues you have with squadmates but as long as you don't take it too far and react negatively to the 'confirmation of new LI' option in their dialogues, the picture stays the way it is and you're home free.
The Achievement means nothing, it just shows dev that on ONE of your playthroughs you romanced a character.
All the polls on this forum, even threads like ours, most likely mean *peep*. Bioware has already stated they love the characters they created and will take them where THEY want them to go. I doubt the small role of Kaidan in ME2 was the result of all the hate on the forums back then. His role is so small because ME2 is about the new bunch, it's not his time to shine again and steal the spotlight from carefully designed new characters.
Yes they chose a rather cheap way of handling it with the generic Ash/Kaidan conversation. Yes, they could have done a whole lot more to give him much more of a presence but they didn't. After playing ME2 and feeling the disappointed still fresh in my mind, I too wondered if all the hate for Kaidan and Ash reduced their roles but that wouldn't make any sense.
Bioware simply can't walk down that road. Forums are horrible as a media in the first place, often filled with demanding little children who nag and whine about every little detail. I want, want want, me me me. It's why I normally hate posting on game forums and even stay away from some all together.
If Bioware would take this forum into account, ME3 will be even more of a shagfest with even the last of the non-romancable characters becoming shallow romances. The Normandy's chain of command would exist of Shepard and his leading ladies and all the men on the ship are coolcat aliens that can snipe targets from a million lightyears away but in no way threaten male Sheps awesomeness.
I support Kaidan here because I feel he, his writers and animators deserve it. I didn't in the time of ME1 because like I said, I hated posting in gameforums and the Kaidan hate boggled my mind.
I love this thread because it allows me to vent in posts like this one, it allows me talk about my favourite character without getting responses like WTFLOLZ Kaidan= GAY! and it allows me to be giggly as a little schoolgirl at the age of 33, which is just a wonderful feeling to have and it's Bioware's Kaidan that's triggering it. So thank you Bioware
Boys hate Kaidan, men seem to like him as a buddy, a lot of women adore him. Whatever anyone thinks, Kaidan IS coming back in ME3 and will shine again. To those who hate him : Buy your coolcat Shepard some sunglasses.

And I agree with you Jhosephine. I really doubt that Ash/Kaidan's roles will get reduced to space dust. If that was the case, then I'd be curious about the ME2 squad in ME3 since all of them can die. Imagine the uproar if they all, ME1 and ME2 members alike, just got mini camos?

Yeah always have lots to read through when I wake up as well. Don't always have the time so I turn into Johnny 5 'Need Input, Need input' and browse through it as fast as I can before having to leave.

I'm thinking that like if you cheated on Ash/Kaidan/Liara with a particular Shep save file, than you might not be able to continue with them as a LI in ME3 with that save file.
At least that's hopefully the case, otherwise the devs are going to have a lot of not so pleased players players on their hands...
I'm hoping this is the case. I imported a character (not my main Shep) & did one of the ME2 romances - went to my cabin & saw Kaidans pic face down, felt so guilty that I deleted the playthrough & character without even finishing the game, lol, although I still got the damning achievement. My 2 main sheps (adept & Sentinel) stayed true to Kaidan - I loved the scene before the final mission where Shep looks at Kaidans pic before resolutely walking out the door.

It's like a mount Everest (mount Kaidan?
To continue some incoherent rambling on my own (I consider this fair - I have 106 pages of this thread currently leaking out of my ears!), having youtubed up the other various love interests there were available I find that none of them really seem to come across to me as quite as striking as the scene of looking at Kaidan's picture before setting out to action. There seemed to be something very deep and heartfelt there, and the alternatives.. err.. how about no. I even ended up avoiding Jacob - a character I thought I'd rather like in a just friends sort of way - because trying to talk to him felt like attempting to cross a minefield where the mines would flirt instead of explode upon proximity. To utterly misuse a developer quote, I agree that the key word with the new romances Mass Effect 2 throws at you is "compelling", because I definitely felt very compelled to avoid them.
Actually, in hindsight I can totally picture Kate post game ending going up to her cabin, hugging the picture frame and quietly going "We did it, Kaidan." to herself. Like several other people chimed in some large amount of pages ago, I do like the idea of Shepard having a few kinks in the armor; especially where Kaidan is involved.
Speaking of, I loved the hug on Horizon actually, it struck me as very "I thought I'd lost you.."-ish - from both sides, even. It struck me as more romantic than a kiss would've been at that point in time - largely thing about stability and comfort, which struck me as highly fitting them.
But onward to more backtrack topics! Notably, this quote:
Where. Is. It. From. More importantly: Is there a convenient video of this happening available? I can't recall ever seeing (well.. hearing) that particular line ever, and by the looks of the delivery, it sounds like in so I have suffered a great loss.Lianna sFfalenn wrote...
"All right, Alenko. Off the record, permission to speak freely, cross my heart and hope to die...what are you talking about?"
Additionally - and in an act I realize might be like blowing sneezing powder into the nose of a humongous sleeping dragon - this bit:
I'm not alone! *cheer* Seriously, the forum was starting to get this impression that either you like Kaidan and resent Tali, or you like Tali and not only leave Kaidan on Virmire but also have Joker carpet bomb the area several times post detonation, something that left me in a rather strange spot since the top two elements on my current wish list for Mass Effect 3 would be:Eshaye wrote...
I see what you mean Fortunesque, I always really liked Tali as her own character. To my Shep she's like a little sister or younger counsin growing up and coming into her own in ME2, but shaggable?
#1. Let Kate and Kaidan sort out their differences and hopefully get back together so she gets her supportive shoulder back since asking her to carry the entire universe on her own is a tad much.
#2. Option for sisterly bonding between Kate and Tali. (I swear I kept thinking of her as "little sister Tali" post her loyalty quest..)
And I think that was all on my mind for the moment, so in parting I'll just say Go Team Kaidan! *pompoms*

Which bit gave us away? Was the kaidan pics? Was it the etreme violence? Maybe threatening to liquidise people? I refuse to believe it was the kaidan reaper babies!
As far as Tali is concerned I don't mind her didn't play her much in ME1 because she died a lot and liked her much more this time round, although think she has a thing for the Adam Baldwin quarian. It's the juvenile fans that annoy me unfortunately on the boards disliking them translates to 'you hate tali therefore we shall flame you with our righteous wrath!'
anyhow not to worry, Tali has given me no reason to smoothie her so all is well :-)

I had the same thoughts, then the cameos came in ME2. I will *not* get the paramour achievement with a femShep. End of story.
same here...no paramour achievement at all
