Not sure why, but I've come to picture this board as a bunch of different groups huddling behind covers while throwing pies at each other... and then there are the occasional group who just sits and eat their pies instead and just enjoy the company.
PIE? Did you say... pie? God I want a slice of pie.
Kaidan disapproves of throwing pie! It's a waste of pie. What would Kaidan Alenko do? WWKAD? He would clearly enjoy his pie, too. Maybe he'd even share it with Shepard.
Just finshed ME2 last night. Squeed at the staring at the picture and thought about what Shepard was thinking.
"I'm going to survive this, because I have to see you again. Because I have yell at you or hit you once for Horizon. Then we'll get this straightened out. You're my reason for surviving, so you'd better be there. I don't have anything left but who's on this ship, and any of us could be gone today. But not you."
Now, let's hope he doesn't let her down.
Tempted to finish my ME1 renegade playthrough just to romance Kaidan, but the problem is I'd also like to check out some LI's in 2. Maybe I'll let my renegade cheat because she *is* kind of a jerk... But I may also just import a save without a romance (I like Kaidan too much not to romance him in ME1).
My husband almost decided to save Kaidan even though he was romancing Ashley, just to change it up. I didn't want to be too fangirl and be like "DO IT!", but I was like "yeah dude that would be awesome" but he saved her and boinked her. Oh well.
I really don't dislike any of the other characters; I have some small gripes on some of them, and some reasons why I like some more than others. And sure, some fans irk me. But honestly, in the big picture, that's not a big deal. I hang a lot on this thread for the company; this is a truly great bunch of people, who is more interested in talking about Kaidan than complaining about others.
Besides, Cookie Everman wouldn't let there be no Kai-Kai. At least that's what I'm telling myself.
I didn't laugh when Lilith got liquified; I was kind of horrified, actually. Maybe it was the thought that Kelly and Dr. Chakwas could be next. I was sitting in the office yelling at the screen for people to hurry, and looked up to find my husband in the hallway staring at me like "What the hell, woman?"

I'll probably wait until ME3 has gone gold before I ever let any of my characters romance any of the ME2 LIs, because I'm a stubborn nerd.

I imported one of my ugly Sheps from ME1, cheated on Kaidan with Thane in one playthrough, Jacob in another, just to see the ME2 romances. Didn't even finish the playthroughs - felt so guilty that I deleted them, lol. Still have that damning achievement though. My 2 main Sheps (adept & sentinel) stayed true. If worse comes to worse then I will uninstall the whole game & start from scratch just before ME3 comes out, although I don't think BW will punish people in a playthrough where they stayed true regardless of what achievements they have.

Oh, I don't think they'll punish people just for having the achievement in their profile, but I'm still paranoid that they're datamining info about how many people cheated on their ME1 LIs. Until the next game is already done, I'll stick with my imaginary "Celibate" achievement.

Agreed and I'll likely do the same uninstall/reinstall come ME3 time, if that need should arise.
Ya' know I do get that they are looking at achievements and such, but I still find it hard to believe that they will totally penalize everyone who decided to test the waters in ME2...(especially if it's on seperate saves)
Still, if folks prefer to go the "better safe than sorry" route and totally avoid the paramour achievement, than that's their preogative, and I can understand the concern...I REALLY want to see Kaidan back in ME3 for my canon Shep and the possibility that it might not be possible is a bit worrisome.
Trying to be optimistic tho'
I predict that the next couple of years are going to be very tense...

About cheating..to be honest after meeting on Horizont and e-mail from Kaidan, I really don't know how things will be going in ME3 for my Sheps & Kaidan. I think, he started new life, he moved on finally after Shep "death", and he is ready for new relationship with someone ( maybe even with this doctor from Citadel). I think that my PC havn't right to ruin his present life, so she should let him go, and start her "new life" too.

That's what I'm afraid of too. My favorite character was already mostly written out and replaced with my two least favorite characters. I do worry about what they're going to do next.
I do too, as I said tho' I'm trying to be optimistic for the most part.
I'm hoping against hope that with this datamining thing, that even if they see that people tried things out with the new folks in ME2 (and I'm of the mind that lots did not because they were neccesarily tired of their ME1 LI's, but simply for the "it's something new" factor) that it's not going to make them believe the majority of the fans aren't interested in carrying things over at all...
I don't think that's the case....well to be truthful I don't want to think that's the case...and there is a part of me that really wants to believe that the devs wouldn't take away Kaidan/Ash/Liara from the loop completely because some people dipped their pens into newer ink wells, I mean that would just be totally awful I think....Aside from the amazing story, the characters in ME1 (even the ones you hated) were fantastic and deep and at this point have grown to be very well loved..sure ME2 folks are loved too, but IMO it's real hard to replace that old friend/lover feeling that I and very many others still get when we think of our ME1 lovers and squadmates.
I don't envy the devs position, not at all....they are kinda damned if they do and damned if they don't...
I do realize that realistically they can't cater to everyone's whims in the next installment, but I'm hoping that they can at least work something out that at least leaves most players feeling satisfied with their gaming experience....I'm sure that is their intention, but either way I think that there are going to be some who are dissapointed with how things turn out...
*sigh*

They're already going to have ME3 pretty much planned out, and they've already stated that they needed Liara and Ash/Kaidan alive for ME3, which is why they weren't in 2. BioWare also understands their target audience is going to play things all over the place; what's the point of an RPG if people don't RPG it a bit?
I don't think it's going to have that much of a bearing on things, honestly, given that the saves/characters are very much sandboxed. But I do still have the option of downloading a save with no romance and using it, which could be what I do. I could care less about tracking decisions (confession: I do analyze customer data in this sort of way as part of my job, for software, and I've learned that some of the data is useless because while you might determine what a customer did, it isn't always valuable unless you know WHY unless it's a simple datapoint of "how many times did users open this program"), but it's more because clearly, Kaidan was important enough to have a picture up, and I'm not an unfaithful sort of person.
But I prefer to play a character based on what they'd do, not what I'd do, and I don't think BioWare misses the fact that the people who play their games will want to do that.
The other interesting thing is that achievements and plot data are stored separately, something I found out because I play on two different computers, and got to the other one and there were no achievements. Now, they could have more depth to the system on the backend; for instance, they could also track cheating data on the achievements, although that's a little shady. Hrm wonder how hard it is to crack the achievements open and see what's in there...

Yeah. I completely agree, I figured she was thinking something along the lines of "I'm going to survive this, see you again, punch you in the arm for Horizon, and then kiss you until I collapse from exhaustion." I figure the devs are going to give a "good" conclusion but whether or not its enough is another story entirely. I don't think they will cut any romance out, or you know... not have them end well if Shepard wants them too, I just think a few of them are going to lack in content while others get this amazing conclusion.
I'm being optimistic though, because they did say it was a three part romance and that they were not letting Kaidan/Ash/Liara go on the suicide mission to insure they made it into ME3, so hopefully those three will at least get their due. I honestly don't know how they'd do the ME2 romances, I don't particularly care, but they need to give them all equal content, unless they do actually want to make one of them impossible later on. Seems like it might be a little easier to conclude human romances, but I could be wrong.

I can totally understand that feeling, and I'm betting that if they are going to have Kaidan/Ash/Liara in ME3 than you might just have the option to go your seperate ways. I don't think that they will force Shep and their ME1 love interests to get back together if that's not what you want to do......if in roleplaying fashion you feel that it's better for Shep and Kaidan to start over with someone else, than I hope that you can get the chance to do that.
There was part of me that had similar feelings when I first played because I thought well if this were real life and my love honestly thought I was dead, spent a good two years grieving over me...I would expect that he would eventually get over things (at least to an extent) and make an attempt to go on with his life. If I were to come back, I think I might feel a little bad if he had moved on especially if I still had strong feelings for him, but for the most part I'd want him to be happy and if that was with someone new, so be it...I'd just have to take my own time to grieve over things and then eventually go on with my life as well.
This is why I love these types of roleplaying games so much...because in the case of Kaidan and the situations on Horizon/his email....we can have the freedom to interpret it as we see fit.....some may see it as him being unsure and eventually the Shep/Kaidan love with prevail and some may see it as an indication that things are truly over between them....much love and respect to Bioware for letting us have the option of personalizing our Shep's story and using our imaginations

Also remember: the vast majority of players know nothing of this datamining concept. They're going to play things how they want to play it. And it doesn't mean someone didn't really like their LI from ME1, it's more likely that they simply didn't want to miss a part of ME2. It's a GAME, and people are going to play to get everything out of it that the can. Some people probably also have no idea what they're missing if they didn't import an ME1 save. I mean, the majority of people are not on these forums, and they're just playing the game and having fun.
In short, removing characters from ME1 based on the decisions of some people would be a bad move, and I'm pretty sure BioWare is fully aware of this. They're also on these forums. They see the kind of support there is.
With that, I'm off to enjoy Valentine's day with mah hubby.
