The waiting is horrid indeed and if there was a little more to go on in ME2 it would have helped. Oh who am I kidding, even with more Kaidan in ME2 I still would be anxiously awaiting ME3

Hehe.  I started to play ME1 again to help ease my pain.  It's working...a little.

In any case I was going to romance Thane, but turns out his intensity turns emo and it's a little much for Shepard right now, though his philosophy of life and death she really does dig! XD So remaining 'faithful' to Kaidan after all.

I see it the other way entirely...he told her it wasn't serious because he knows that Shep knows him well enough to know that he doesn't take sleeping with someone lightly.  Kaidan told her about the doctor because he wanted her to know he had not gotten serious enough with her to sleep with her yet,. And when he says a couple of drinks it makes me think that he probably hasn't seen the woman more than twice at best. It's casual...more than likely a blind date set up by his friends that isn't going anywhere.

*edit* Yeah I agree with you Michelle. If Kaidan had something serious or slept with someone he'd have something else entirely. Like "there's someone else." That's just my thought on it though.

I think the 'maybe...I don't know' was typical Kaidan myself...leaving a way out...he seems to be the type to avoid emotional pain. Probably afraid that Shep might really move on and leave him so he leaves an out so that afterward he can convince himself that he had moved on as well(while really still hurting inside).

 I think he's terrified that she's going to leave him like Rahna did. He probably felt the same way when Shep died as he did when Rahna refused to talk to him...alone and abandoned. People put up walls to prevent going through the same pain again. His 'maybe' is just a wall that Shep's going to have to break down. So we get to chase him again in ME3.

Yeah, I don't see Kaidan ever lying to Shep...She's probably the only one he's even told about Jump Zero...probably the only one he's ever been able to open up too. Dr. Chawas said that he always stayed to himself. I guess he was friends with the Normandy crew and evidently he's made more since then since they set him up with the doc(I won't thank them for that) but it did always come across as if he was a little closed off about himself...except with Shep.

That's the thing that bugs me a great deal.  It isn't cheating.  He pretty much breaks up with you.  And at a minimum, you are probably on a 'break'.  

This gave me the image of Shep screaming,

"WE WERE ON A BREAK!!" at Kaidan in a Ross from friends esque fashion

I really tried but my stomach lurched when I saw the pic upturned on Shep's desk and ran right back down to Garrus to tell he we could only be friends.

I'm gonna have the same prob I did ME1, I want to see what happens with the different LI but can't bring myself to romance anyone but Kaidan, it's the same with DA:O, I fall in love with a character for my PC and no one else even compares.

Completely agree with this.  The letter was absolutely typical Kaidan, particularly those lines.  It's like he was admitting his helplessness.  He'd begun to pull this back together, to exert some control over his life, and now he doesn't know where he is again.  He needs something to protect himself from the hurt that this could cause if it all goes wrong - if he loses Shepard all over again.  Poor Kaidan.

I was very tempted by Garrus and Thane, but my Shep remained staunchly faithful to Kaidan.  Never had an accidental photo fall (only found out it gets turned down if you cheat by reading these forums).  Shep told Kaidan that she and he were a sure thing, and she meant it.  And, for good measure...

I knew I wouldn't cheat on my main Shep, but I was open to getting to know the new characters on other playthroughs. Now I'm positive I'll have three female Shepards who are staying loyal to Kaidan, and possibly one character sticking with Liara, when ME3 comes out.



LOL, considering how my Dragon Age characters got around, even when I was a huge Alistair fan, that has to say something!

My photo hasn't fell yet in any playthrough...I'm on my third...this one canon. I kinda stick with neutral choices when talking to potential LI's...if I do talk to them...so far I've just been killing them off...ultimate revenge.

Actually, the "accidental" comment was more do to with my paranoia after trying to get to know Jacob.  The standard personal chat line is delivered in such a sleazy voice by FemShep!  And when Jacob responds to these casual inquiries by saying that fraternisation isn't forbidden in Cerberus, I was terrified that I'd romanced him by accident!  At least, with Thane and Garrus, it's very clear what you'd have to say to take things to the next level!  No surprise sex, thanks!

Exactly.  I feel kinda sorry for his doctor on the Citadel, because that's going nowhere now.  Either he'll call it off to avoid stringing her along, or he'll try to avoid her because he needs some time alone to figure it all out.  (Of course, I don't feel too sorry for her...  Just a little bit!  i mean, who wants to lose Kaidan?)

It's all interpertration really, but what I got from it was not this.

To me it sounded like he had a long mourning period, almost 2 years and then just as he was about to really move on and date, and getting interested in someone else, you show up and shake things up. He's hurt because it rips his mourning you wide open, and it brings about guilt because he loves you but had to put that behind and start seeing someone else. I think he tells Shepard about the Dr. to be honest for sure and set her up for more details later on if she comes back for him, and the not serious to me means that whatever would have happened with the new girl is now over, and the maybe is basically saying :" We have to talk, if you want to". 

I think it depends which scenario is more compelling to you and whether BioWare gives us any more detail. I'm thinking they'll just let us decide on our own.

My interpertration probably differs because my own interaction with boyfriends and ex's have been similar, they never say exactly what they mean they just give you hints and always leave a back door open in case things backfire.The guys I've know as friend too are always scared girls are going to freak the heck out (I'm not telling her that, she'll go NUTS!), so they themselve throw a fit first or use evasive maneuveurs in the form of vague descriptions.

I accidentally stumbled into the second chance of romance with Leliana, so I decided (since I save before ever talking to party members in any Bioware game) to go ahead and get the achievement for romancing her. It was so horrible having to break up with poor Alistair. I quickly reloaded after getting the achievement and was extra attentive to him for the next bit.

Fortunately, I have no desire to get with any of the male LI in ME2. I can get Paramour playing a male Shep, so no need to be unfaithful to Kaidan .

Everyone plays from their own perspective...a lot of guys are like that...not saying what they mean...I just think that Kaidan was written for females as a fantasy catch...meaning he would not be like the guys you might meet in real life..but I see where your coming from.

Honestly I don't think Bioware will go much into depth concerning the Doc anyway...unless Ash also mentioned someone.  It'll probably pick up with us having to pursue him again with a brief mention that Shep and Kaidan had a relationship in the past...because they will have to write it in such a way that will help new players understand that he is a LI.

I'm sure we'll probably get some extra dialog concerning ME(for importing) but since it's the final in the trilogy I don't think they'll waste a lot of time dwelling on the past. I would think that the ME2 LI's would be more trouble than  the doc anyway...even if you don't cheat my guess is that there will be tension. Some may not even want Kaidan/Ash and Liara there since they didn't help with the collectors.
