  UHH...yeah, I know it's not your fault, and you can't moderate who comes into the thread, but stuff like that is where people get bad impressions of Tali fans.

Also, I like Ashley.  I hate that they made us choose.  It wouldn't be very nice if they made Tali fans choose between saving her and your second favorite character, would it?

Sorry for bringing this to an off-topic place again, just read this (taking a break from writing my paper).
A few things:

I could have ignored that post due to spelling errors, I have read every post and I do not deny there is weird stuff. But there are no "rape" fanfics that I let people continue to write.  Usually if a post has terrible misspellings I just avoid quoting it, but I do make active claims to at least the give the guy or girl props for their creativity if I can tell they wrote it.

Like I could have avoided this   thread entirely due to a misspelling in the thread title. Kaidan. But see, I look past that stuff to see people who actually have grown attatched to another one of Biowares (I cannot type apostrophes for some reason [quick links pops up and I cannot disable it?] so be kind with those) characters. Yes, you have found one post that was slightly creepy. In fact, I will go on a limb and say you can find about 400 really "creepy" things (why can I type quotations?). Yeah. That is a lot, but that is just 400 out of 30,000+. Try not to generalize some people based off of a few posts. If you want to generalize us, 90% of our posters are what The_KFD_Case wrote. It is on our OP, quite long, but it sums up just about every Tali fan you will see in our thread.

I would pick Tali in an instant over anyone. Even Wrex.

Hey, if Papyrus is good enough to subtitle the Na'vi, who are we to criticize it.  Posted Image

I still cannot believe they used papyrus for the Avatar title. It made me cry inside when I saw it. I mean there are other fonts out there that have the same feel of papyrus but are not papyrus.

I understand you are defending your own position, as you don't count yourself among the would be
rapists and don't apreciate being compaired to one. Fair enough.
We may have jokingly generalized the Tali fans a bit, though we all know it's not all of you.

But, you seem eloquent enough to be able to faithfully answer the question on many minds:

Why exactly Tali?

Since no one has taken my advice to see KFD's super Quotes. I'll paste them here for you...they are a wall of Text yes, and for that I apologize...just......well you asked.

Hi Wulf!

There's been a
truck load of good conversations, philosophizing, screen shots, poetry,
humor, good natured camarderie and admiration/love for Tali's persona.

It just came to me in a flash a moment before typing this post.

We
often speak of Tali and our fan enthusiasm towards her as though it
were a sect; the truth may not be too far off that description. Stated
in short, concise terms: We've become a movement. Each day the
self-declared "Talimancers" return, many of us familiar faces and some
new. Our exuberance and devotion to this place does not appear to be
dimming as the days go by - quite the contrary. And it is not because
of this place. No, it's because of what has been unleashed by the
creation of Tali'Zorah vas Normandy as a character. I trust we are all
painfully aware that she is not a living, breathing entity as we have
come to understand such. She has become an ideal; her spirit has
awakened something that has lain dormant deep inside many of us - each
of us either secretly aware that we craved something or perhaps going
through our daily routines unsure how to place our fingertips on it yet
instinctively aware that something is missing. Each of us share this
yearning to one degree or another and it is a shared commonality that
forges these bonds between us that have been strengthened over the past
few days.

We are kindred spirits irrespective of our age, our
experience, our country of birth or native tongue, we are alike because
we have been awakened inside. We've had one of those rare opportunities
that some people can search for for a lifetime to glimpse at our inner
workings, compare it to the world around us and reached the conclusion
that regardless of our station in life it can be even better. That we
as individuals and as a collective group can be better - that we are
already becoming better thanks to the resonating, complimentary effect
we are creating amongst ourselves. It may sound melodramatic yet
I believe with an earnest heart and a clear mind that the adoration and
love the character of Tali'Zorah enjoys is a testament to the
recognition by many here that there is a love that can burn so brightly
within the recesses of our souls that no darkness,  no matter how
grave, can extinguish. We, the so-called "Talimancers" - a term that
may have started out as a half jest, have become a movement because we
see clearly, perhaps for the first time in a while, that there are
better and greater things in our brief existence than purely material
and selfish pursuits. That the values represented in Tali'Zorah vas
Normandy need not only apply to her but can apply to us and those
around us. That we can find such a love - selfless, honest,
compassionate, modest, pure, brave and strong - and that it is
something worth striving for. It is for these reasons that we have each
come to love Tali'Zorah in our own individual way, and it is for those
reasons that she, the character of Tali'Zorah vas Normandy, has become
a rallying cry, a symbol.

......And now I'm done.

No. He wasn't.

The_KFD_Case wrote....

I could rattle of a non-comprehensive list of traits that
Tali'Zorah vas Normandy possesses (intelligence, sweet, shy, earnest,
quirky, passionate, courageous, strong yet gentle, reasonable, a voice
that makes grown men weak at the knees, a touch of mystery, etc.) which
are immensely appealing to many. Yet perhaps it is more succintly
summed up by stating that she represents a figure that many of us yearn
so deeply, even desperately, for; like a drowning sailor at sea clings
to flotsam to keep his head above the encroaching cold water, so too
are people here desperate-yet-hopeful that perhaps maybe, just maybe,
someday they may count themselves fortunate enough to encounter a
real-live woman who encapsulates if not all of these traits, then at
very least some of them. In short: Tali has become a symbol of
attainable perfection. It is a powerful thing for it speaks to a
yearning inside many of us and we feel its call. The character of
Tali'Zorah has reached out and captured our hearts and our imagination
and we want more. Much more.

With all of that. I take my indefinite leave from this thread. I will still support Kaidan over Ashley, just don't think I like being looked down upon seeing as how this thread finds itself "more sophisticated" than the one I participate in.

Hey, I never misspell Kaidan.  Except when I do, and catch myself and edit it a minute later...Posted Image

I think, for myself, I see Tali as a cute little sister character.  So when she's objectified by guys, I'm not going to be outraged, but it does make me uncomfortable.  And then when I see posts like the example I linked, I go beyond uncomfortable to outraged and grossed out.  So it stands out to me more than if someone was making the same kind of remarks about Miranda or Jack.

It's like when my younger brother talks about his love for Ahsoka Tano.  I KNOW he's not talking about some kind of innocent, brotherly love, and I just don't want to know...Posted Image

You never stop being daddy's little girl. Speaking of which, does anybody remember what happened to Shepard's father (as a spacer) ? Don't recall. And it also makes me wonder if Hannah Shepard will ever be tied into the Kaidan romance. You know, some mail or something :)

We had our computer completely upgraded a couple of years ago. I got the Witcher and I saw the intro and I was like" I've got to play this game" and my graphics card wasn't strong enough to actually play the game...after the intro all I got was a black screen. Wound up getting  NVIDIA 9600 and had a friend install it for free.

Hope you find a new one soon...I know how frustrating it can be.

I have read your entire post, and though I do not think the writer and myself would ever agree on the subject of love, I will reserve judgement. I did ask for the explaination afterall.

I can't however turn down the opportunity to say this:

To me, love is not an image of atainable perfection. Not a dream of something that suits you perfectly.

To me love means devotion to somebody, loving them whole, loving their shortcomings equal to their positive traits. To me love means laying down your pride entirely, caring more about the others well being than your own.
and more importantly, love is not a feeling you wake up with one morning. Love, especially the big kind is something that builds over a long period.

If I were to point at somebody I would describe as atainable perfection, it would be somebody that held my trust and love for years... regardless of their personality.

The only reason I'm not as much a daddy's girl today is because my dad up and moved over 2000 miles away (and I still tell him that he needs to move back home). Posted Image

However, I have not been able to find out anything about the other Shepard in the Spacer background. Hannah Shepard is a Captain who turned down an Admiral promotion. I cannot find any information on whether the dad is still alive or what rank he obtained (as the background states both parents were military.. you even tell Kaidan this!).

I've actually got a few ideas that are stuck in my head that involve the gross lack of talking to your mother (assuming that your father is deceased). Plus, I have another one involving my Shep's funeral and a few notable players who would have crossed paths there. Posted Image
