Ahh, so hot! Kaidan's the most gorgeous pixelated man evarrr. I love the dark-haired, dark-eyed mens and he is no exception.

What do people imagine his personal history to be like? Is he an only child? Siblings? What's his relationship with his family members? His dad retired to Vancouver, IIRC, is that where the Alenkos are from originally?

I could see him being an older child and maybe his parents had an 'oops' child after retirement. One thing I sense is that he's got a strained relationship with his family, due to BAAT and his biotics.

Thanks for clearing that up. :)

Remember tho he got shipped off to BAAT, so he wouldn't have spent much time with his siblings, if he had any. And if he was the eldest he wouldn't have watched them grow up like Ashley did.

What’s wrong with Papyrus, I think it looks pretty, I wasn’t even aware there was a hate campaign against it, why didn’t anyone tell me? Image IPB

To the design world Papyrus is, to put it simply, the n00b font. Everyone and their brother uses it because it looks different and special compared to the other common Windows standard fonts. And thus when it is used in a serious manner, such as for movie titles, it implies that the person behind the design is too lazy or ignorant to find a more respectable font. If Papryus kept to minor things like community flyers and sig banners, it would not be such a hated font. But people have abused the use of Papyrus to the point that many people, esp those who have some knowledge of fonts, see it and cringe.

Hehe, I never claimed I wasn't a n00b! But makes much more sense now, thanks.

No biggie. Back in the day I have even used Papyrus myself. It was for some resturant project I had to do in a cooking class. I thought it was nice looking and worked with the style of my fictional resturant. And then I went and started doing lots of digital design work and then got a degree in it, and now I see the use of Papyrus everywhere (esp resturants, go figure) and all I can ask is "Why?" There are sooooo many fonts out there, why limit yourself to a Windows standard one that everyone uses. You would not believe the number of fonts that I currently have on my computer, it's well into the thousands, and yet I always find more that are different from what I already have.

Though, all this talk about Papyrus has got me wanting to make a texture Wallpaper out of the word papyrus in the font of papyrus that looks like a sheet of papyrus... If only my desktop's power supply didn't die and I had to wait for it to get replaced. All my adobe programs are on it. :(

I can see him as an oldest child or only child.  Although onlies may get bad press (spoiled, selfish etc.) it's not necessarily the case. A lot of them are pretty sensitive kids and they often have aspects of being both the oldest and the youngest.  One thing for sure is that when an only gains their parents' attention for something, especially a screw up, they can really get focused on and there's no getting away from it !  It can be pretty tough when  parents have high expectations and I get the sense that Kaidan's do/did. Every time the kid doesn't succeed in the way the parents expect it becomes a big burden....for the kid.  'k....nuf psychoanalysis from me...

Kaidan does say in your first convo that his father was proud of him -- eventually -- which gives me the sense that it was important to him.   I also take out of this convo that he's glad of it; kind of a vibe that his relationship with his parents has been repaired. Still, given his age and career, it probably isn't like he visits that much.  Also given his conversational caution, I suspect he's not exactly calling home every Saturday nite to update his parental units on his activities!

In my intro to design class, I used papyrus. In my defense, it was for an event poster for DaVinci and the only place I used it was in the dates... still, I'm terrified to put that in my portfolio. At least it isn't comic sans though! :pinched:

I always pictured him as an only child myself, I guess largely because he doesn't actually mention any siblings (not exactly creative, me!). I read a fic, possibly written by someone here (?), a while ago in which he was an only child because after the transport crash/eezo exposure his mother hadn't been able to have any more children, and that just made so much sense to me that it's now semi-canon in my mind. The extra pressure and all the fear, etc. the Alenkos must have experienced, discovering their only child started showing signs of biotic abilities make for such a delicious potential for angst - and makes their eventual pride in him all the more touching. :)

It's an intro class, it's forgivable. You can always change the font if you're really worried. I had done a DaVinci based business card, though I forget what font I used for it...wish I could go open up the file and check. Stupid dead power supply.

And yeah, comic sans is another one of "those fonts". But I think Papyrus has gone above and beyond in usage. I hardly ever see comic sans used anymore, but Papyrus is everywhere. It probably doesn't help that Papyrus also stands out way more then comic sans ever did.

I've always seen him as an only child too. But then that might be because I'm one myself and felt that I could really easily connect to and understand his character.

See, this is why I want him as a full squad-mate in ME3 (well...ONE of the reasons). Despite all of the conversations in ME1, there's still so much you don't know about him. Are his parents still alive? Does he have siblings? Is he close with any of them? I always pictured him with at least a brother or sister, but I'd like to know!

Sbarge soundclips are hilarious. It's like listening to Kaidan doing a promo for the Tonight Show. It's so weird. Should Kaidan ever desire a different career, he can sure do promotion stuff. Would be cool to hear his voice when walking on Ilium or something hehe

Yeah, those kind of freak me out...it's like oh that's Kaidan...no wait a minute...that's not Kaidan. You forget sometimes that Kaidan isn't the only voice he does.

Wait.  Where can I find his clips?  I listened to Kimberly Brooks' demo reel.  It's really good.  But I haven't heard Raphael.  Also, he's credited as "additional voices" as well as Kaidan for ME2 and I personally can't think of any way he could ever satisfactorily hide that voice in some other character.

Here

Ah!  Thank you!  Now that I've heard this I realize I have heard his voice EVERYWHERE.

Well you are limited in school to using what you got. The font probably does work for what you're going with, but  it helps to know that in the real world you should use another font instead, like ITC Skylark. Look it up, it's a real nice font that has the feel of papyrus, but looks better IMO.

EDIT: Here's a page of alternatives to papyrus. Think all of these cost $, but with some searching, you could likely find similar free ones out there.

That was one of the reasons I couldn't play a maleShep... that scene at the Citadel if you're trying to romance Ashley is pathetic and stupid in comparison.

Eh. Well, I'm not one of the swoonin' girls that make up most of the posters in this thread, so maybe since I'm a guy it's different, but Williams always gave me a laugh. I think Kaidan is cooler and more of a stable character though.

Oh hay thread name spelled correctly!!!  How you doin'???  :o

I just finished my renegade playthrough of ME2.  I think I'm done with it already, until ME3 is close to coming out, at least...:(

I guess not being obsessed with any games at the moment means that I can be more productive and creative...or I can hang out on the Bioware forum and post about Kaidan endlessly...

Ahh. Thank you muchly. I work on a pc and my school has nothing but macs, so finding typefaces that I have on both is a challenge.

And now, back to your regularaly scheduled Kaidan :D
