Oh by the way, I like your Ashley AND Kaidan squadmate proposal fortunesque. Even though Bioware won't admit it, whoever got left behind on Virmire was originally meant to have had survived and returned in ME2. So maybe it got pushed back to ME3. Hopefully.

Really? That would have been so awesome, loved taking Ash and Kaidan along together. I started taking Garrus with me instead of Ash simply because of the Virmire thing but Ash was such a great gal and friend to my Shepard.

Kaidan was actually the only guarenteed squadmate in ME1 for me, I switched out the second spot a lot until I wanted to get the achievements. Actually, should have recieved a bonus for finishing the game with a Sentinel ally like 15 times hehe

Yeah, and believe me I tried getting Ash's by doing every little thing I possibly could before Virmire, hoping it would trigger somehow. Oh well, I'll never get hers sadly. Sorry Ash.

Ash is easy if you don't take her out of your squad from the time you hit Eden prime and do side missions.

For those of you wondering about Kaidan's family, these are the only lines I could find relating to them:

"Besides, my father served. Made him proud when I enlisted. Eventually. But is that why you're here? Because of your familiy?"

"I told him my dad wasn't in the war. He'd retired to Vancouver. My family had an inland home that matured to new beachfront."

"My mother was downwind of a transport crash. It was before there were human biotics. A little after the discovery of the Martian ruins."

"Mom was right. I should've brought a sweater."

"One of my cousins has an agri business. I was thinking of calling him. Maybe he can get some shipments into Feros."

It's possible his mother died from eezo exposure or cancer as a result of it later, or at least died sooner than she would have otherwise. But then again, the wonder's of future modern science could possibly have saved her. The devs probably enjoy leaving a lot up to the fans to figure out for themselves anyway, so just pick whatever suits your Shep's story.  "One of my cousins" also implies he has more than one.

Sadly she's the only squad member besides Wrex who got one.

Yep, I have gotten the Ash achievement that way as well. They key thing is to take her on all three of the main missions before Virmire - I didn't even have to do all the assignments with her to get the achievement on that run. Then I lost my profile in an unfortunate hard drive corruption incident and didn't take her to Noveria on my next one. How bummed was I when I got to Virmire after doing every little tiny sidequest with her and still didn't get my Soldier Ally achievement back

Don't know if I'll ever get all of ally achievements for ME1 - that first spot is always Kaidan's, so that's a lot of runs to get a full set!

wow good job i never heard the one with his cousin but i belive that on Noveria he  said something like "Mom was right. I should've brought a sweater"
so maybe she's alive

i really miss your squad comments or elevator conversations, In ME 2 radio news are much more interesting, so long elevator scenes wouldn't be so bad, sometimes i stop anyway to listen to them

Today is 'experiment with digi cam and tv' day. Taking shots of the tv while just restarting ME1. So I have a bunch of lovely Kaidan shots (I think) and figured I would toss em onto my pc.....but....I can't find the darn cable. So 'experiment with digi cam and tv' day is turning into 'jho ransacking her house to find a cable' day.

I am totally blaming Kaidan for it too, him and his smexyness that makes me want to try and take some lovely pictures.

Okay back to the search I go. House here I come.

Right, I'll add that line to the post.  It could just be joke though, BioWare used a lot of "mom" jokes.

Okay can't find the cable, enough of that. Anybody else slightly disturbed by what's going on with the DA:O expansion and having all LI's reduced to cameos? No way to continue a romance and no new ones either. Eek.
Hope it's not because of the fact that there are too many possible endings and thus it's cameo time again. Because that doesn't bode well for ME3

Oh and before I forget, the song that plays in ME1 when romancing Kaidan...is it available on your ME2 radio? Don't think I heard it.

I always pictured him as an only child myself, I guess largely because he doesn't actually mention any siblings (not exactly creative, me!). I read a fic, possibly written by someone here (?), a while ago in which he was an only child because after the transport crash/eezo exposure his mother hadn't been able to have any more children, and that just made so much sense to me that it's now semi-canon in my mind. The extra pressure and all the fear, etc. the Alenkos must have experienced, discovering their only child started showing signs of biotic abilities make for such a delicious potential for angst - and makes their eventual pride in him all the more touching.

Same here...always saw him as an only child. Got the feeling that his parents might have been up in age before they had him...and with him being biotic it caused a strain between him and his Dad since he mentions that his Dad was proud of him 'eventually'. Figured it had something to do with his Dad being military or something and there might have been some question as to whether Kaidan could follow in his footsteps due to the biotics and that maybe all the strain left once he was accepted into the Alliance. 

All I can see is Hiro from Heroes with all this talk of waffles.

Yes, me too, I read about the no continuing love interests in Awakenings yesterday, and it was pretty depressing.  Along with realizing I have no interest in replaying ME2 anymore, it made me very mopey last night.  Dragon Age would be cool even without the romances and friendships, but they were such an integral part of the game, it's hard to imagine.  I guess I'm expecting too much from an expansion, but I preferred Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark to the original Neverwinter Nights campaign, and Mask of the Betrayer was the best part of NWN2, so maybe I was spoiled back then...

Another thank you to Red Nanaki too, all that info in one place is great.

Besides the fact that we only got the cameo with Kaidan, his background was one of the other reasons that ME2 was a disappointment to me(at least concerning the LI's). I had hoped they were going to give us some more detailed information on his family, Rahna, and what happened to him those two years before he joined the Alliance after Jump Zero.

Would have liked to have seen a reveal about Liar's father as well...hopefully we'll get some of that stuff in ME3.
