I can make sense of using different guns, maybe he got training... But not figuring out targeting systems I don't know, I'm sure I'll figure out a reason why it wasn't possible whithout EDI..

edit: Kaidan must have been all aflutter Shepard MIGHT be alive and on Horizon, expecting to run into her every 5 seconds, he totally forgot he was a biotic with tech training...

He could fire an AR he'd just suck at it, in ME1 you had the gun you just couldn't shoot straight, I remember trying to shoot the sniper rifle without unlocking any of the skill points, it was embarassing!  But he would be unlikely to have that equipped rather than a pistol.

With regard to the targetting systems, I think the point was that only EDI could do it, bare in mind it took her a little while and she's a computer so in theory could do in minutes what it would take us hours to do and that's for simple things.  The Alliance don't use AI only VI so again in theory she should be able to far surpass anything Kaidan could throw at the TS.  I think given time he would have been able to do it but in those cirumstances only EDI could and you are of course assuming that Kaidan was the one doing the actual work rather than directing the work.

Yes.  I have a  theory that he's not really on that planet for the reason he claims.  Both Anderson and TIM tell you he's blackest of black ops, now, after all. 

Also, the break up?  Might actually be a cover, too.  But then, I'm prone to conspiracy theories.

Yeah, where the heck was his barrier...you could use that in the end to keep the swarms off...I thought he would have used it instinctively.

This I can't defend, it was just plain stupid, I guess we could say something about suprise and the heat of the moment but nah, he's a marine, should be cool as a cucumber even with a swarm of bugbots.

Well, as time progresses logic starts to point towards your weird idea! 
EDIT: By wich I'm implying that he's in nothing the same Kaidan we know from ME1.

Or Bioware has hired some minimum wage copy-writer to write Kaidan/Ashes plot in ME2

I remember those sniper rifles...made me feel like the shakiest gun in the west...even with the upgrades.

Perish the thought...or perhaps you hit the nail on the head...if EA is trying to save money...With all the big name actors they got to do voice overs they may have had to cut somewhere.

Son of a gun, the entire Horizon scene makes more sense with Ash there instead of Kaidan... 

*fume*  ><;;;;; I'm getting tired of this two sides of the same coin thing. I know it saves time and all that but I hate they have sacrifice what makes sense for Kaidan to include Ash, and Ash seems to always come first...

Seriously, just like the Phoenix armor in the beginning, it would have cost them five minutes at most to change the texture on Kaidan's armor in the opening scene. 

And then they don't address the fact that he's a tech expert at all on Horizon, he doesn't use his biotics, he can't stay more than five minutes and hear Shepard's explanation...and Shepard is suddenly completely unable to express herself.

...Horizon is a horrible, horrible planet.
