I admit, I hadn't played KOTOR when I played ME, and when I did get around to it, every time I heard Carth I was all "OMG it's Kaidan, squee!"

Hehe, same for me, but reversed. I'd played KotOR first and the very first line Kaidan voiced in ME, I was like, "Wait a minute..." and then went running to look up the VA, and was like, "Squee, it's Carth!!" xD

FINALLY!  Someone who had the same reaction as me, I absolutely adored Carth Onasi.  He was one of my favorite characters in a video game EVER, paranoid ridiculousness and all.  I was instantly in love when I heard Kaidan with his voice.  Then Kaidan turned out to be this amazing character that even topped Carth.  Win!

Same, I simply adore Kaidan and Carth, loved the bickering you could get into with Carth where you called him names and he laughed, maybe the angst between Shep will lead to some bickering and then a steamy pressed up against the railings scene, wow, my head just became a fun place to be!

Personally I doubt that any of the ME2 LI's will have a large role in ME3. Jacob was a booty call, nothing more, he makes that perfectly clear and the whole 'relationship' lacks any form of emotion or depth imo.

While Thane had depth, shep spends the majority of the game holding his hands with the same repeating dialogue until the end sexy time which isn't much of sexy time at all. The tears and single kiss didn't do anything for me other than making me want to comfort the poor guy. Thane was designed as THE alien romance for femsheps and yet he's dying and that pretty much sums up the whole romance angle. There is no tension, no real flirting, just deep talks and holding hands.

Garrus to me is just Bioware pleasing the fans who cried out for his romance all over the forums. He's cool, his romance is cute but it hardly qualifies as a romance. Again both parties make clear it's just a little passion before the suicide mission and again it feels like an intimate friendship to me.

Kaidan gave the feeling of being genuinely interested in the woman behind the commander from the start. His fumbling on the citadel, the way he smiled at her and their conversations felt like their relationship naturally grew into something more. There was tension the ME2 LI's lacked with a scene like the Joker interrupt before kissing etc etc.
I missed that in ME2 and felt no anticipation what so ever with the LI's.

Because Kaidan was the 'only' obvious male romance option for femsheps in ME1, their relationship was much more subtle and genuine imo. Even though it felt as if the romance in ME1 was a tad bit lacking, compared to the 'depth' of the ME2 LI's, it's really wonderfully done. Even the scene before Ilos was more about finally giving into feelings and making love to confirm their relationship while they still had the chance. It never gave the feeling it was a quick booty call. (like Jacob with his prize dialogue)

The fact that I created a femshep that looked nothing like my canon Shep from ME1 just to try a romance with Thane says enough. My canon Shep is with Kaidan and no matter how many times I try to romance the ME2 LI's, it's just not working for me. Bioware created a lovely romance option with Kaidan, who's horribly under appreciated and tossed aside as boring by a lot of people. (a lot of the comments back then had a lot to do with Carth still being fresh in people's minds and the whole comparing thing)

The only fear I still have for ME3 is the fact that there are SO many romance options now and if they want to continue them all in ME3, it's going to mean they will have to put a lot of work into them to pull of any form of closure and since romances are just a small percentage of the game, I fear it will be at the expense of any real depth. 5 for each gender is a lot of content to work with, not to mention the fact all ME2 LI's could have possibly died in players runthroughs and see what that did to the ME1 LI's in ME2  I mean why create indepth relationships with people who could be dead in the majority of the playerbase game saves?
Again it's why I believe ME2 romance options, some of them at least, will just move on in ME3 and that's why, imo, most ME2 romaces are so obviously 'flings'. Well for femsheps anyway, or so it felt to me, with perhaps the exclusion of Thane.

Just wording my thoughts here ;)

My favorite line of Carth's was near the beginning and he had been a complete jerk to you, and you say "Well, you're not that easy to get along with either..." And he's all cluelessly like, "Me? Wh-what'd I do?" I fell in love right then.

Like with the smile Kaidan gives you after you say it's not his fault on Eden Prime. Insta-love.

Yeah the Eden Prime thing had me hooked that half smile is the most awsome expression in the game, it just screams how much he wants Shep

See, I actually find Garrus attractive. Don't ask why; just add it to my kinky list. I wanted to romance him in Mass Effect, but had no love, and instead explored and fell for Kaidan.

If Kaidan hadn't have been an option from the get-go, I'd be all over Garrus at this point.

Edit: Hahahaha. Honestly, I think we've scared all the mods away.

I like Garrus too but when he said,

"Hell, why not, there's no one I repesct more."

I wanted to say "WTF?!  Your gonna sleep with me because you respect me?!"

It's like the whole Jacob saying Miranda deserves more than him, but he's ok with you, I mean Kaidan thought you were special, right from the outset, before you became the biggest bada** in town.  I'm sorry but no one else will ever come close.

Kaidan is the only romance in ME so far that actually seems like a romance. He seems like someone who is actually interested in your character. 2/3 of my ME playthroughs romanced Kaidan (one went for Liara, but she seemed too clingy, there's no romance there, it's more some quasi-spiritual bond).

I do admit, though, Kelly's tempting because I need someone to feed my fish.

(she's cute though, I don't want to use her to feed the fish, but it's not like KAIDAN will come feed my freaking fish)

:D Even though she's cute, I was never interested in Kelly (and her dialogue is kind of...odd), but having her feed the fish would be mighty tempting.  I killed my fish twice before leaving the tank empty.  But, if I flirt with Kelly, that will lead to dinner, and stripper dancing...maybe my next playthrough, but my paragon Shep won't go there.

Maybe I'm being niave but I actually was just having dinner with a friend, like a best girl chum and of course she fed my fish Image IPB

Also if Kaiden joins the squad, we shouldn't have to wait until we're facing death to have seckz. Seriously. They have over 2 years to make up for here!

I suspect that if he joins the squad (I'd rather say when but don't wanna get my heart broken Image IPB) there will be the awkward foot shuffling moment and a lot of, I still care for you type stuff but I don't know if I could bare to lose you again, blah blah blah, all the while I'll be looking him up and down like a piece of meat waiting for the moment they let us pounce on him.

How come nobody is talking about Kaiden as a tactician's dream come true?

He was by FAR the best support member out all of them. He could throw charging krogan, knock out shields, unlock anything, heal you 100% from certain death. Sure, he was only OK with a gun and died kind of easily, but a quick unity shot and he's fine again! I almost always had him in the party for those very reasons.

Plus he's Carth Onasi, too. One of the best characters from KOTOR 1

LOL that's not the kind of tactical deployment we're interested in *wiggles eyebrows suggestively*

Seriously though he never left my team and he didn't die any easier than some of the other muppets, you just had to keep a tight leash ......ooooooooh interesting imagery ............. sorry I'll stop, lol what was I saying?  Oh yeah, if you can stop him running into everything his biotics take care of so much, he was awesome in everyway.

Kaidan's biotics were insanely helpful in battle, admittedly, at first I only kept him in my squad because I loved him, but having someone rush me and then get flung across the room was always amazing. Then him using lift to have Soveriegn just hover in the air was pretty amazing in itself.

yep Kaidan was always in my team as well, first aid and medicine was very helpful and because he is a sentinel i didn't need another biotic or engineer the best other squadmate was ashley but wrex was ok as well. I just wish i could leave on virmir garrus or tali (most useless characters for me)

About the VA i start playing KOTOR again just to hear that voice again

Sometimes i envy Liara fans that they can always go to ilium and visit/see/hear Liara

i have one save on horizon but the husk and all that fight ech

From a tactical standpoint, I was to that part with the Thorian in ME1. And one of those Asari commandos popped out. And I remember them beating on my husband and I'm like, "... well shoot."

Kaidan tosses one throw out there, knocks her off the ledge, and she's gone. I was impressed. :D

Ohhh This thread is so long overdueee!

I am a huge Kaiden advocate!

Ever since his first line in ME1 I was like "oh hello!".. and I was a fan ever since...

Honestly its really sad how his convos with femshep made me all giddy..

Maybe its the voice, or maybe that hes actually really sexy, *ahem*, but whatever it is, hes my favorite.

Ashley got blown up, oh well, I had to save my LT....

The convo on horizon, made me so sad. I replayed it so many times trying for a better result in the conversation with no luck, of course, but, when i got the message i was so happy.. He was totally asking femshep to hangout once it was all over... *le sigh*.

I cant wait for the fireworks in ME3. And there BETTER be some crazy Kaiden/Femshep plotline, because im saying 100% faithful in my games to him.

I youtubed the results of the other possible romances just so i can say ive witnessed what can happen, but i cant bring myself to do it.

Oh a side note.. Does anyone know if they modelled kaiden after anyone? because, if so, id liketo know, so i can stalk him. lolol. <3

Kaidan is great, someone who is there (on normandy in ME 1) for you, who is concer about you. Character who copy with his life no matter how painfull or messed up it is. Not like in ME 2 when you have to win your squadmates loyalties and solve theirs problems,

I know that people complain about forced romances but for me as a girl i prefer when someone shows intrest in me

Well i like some of the new characters but not as much as Kaidan, Liara or Ashley (i don't know maybe it's this first love thing) Bioware did a grat job giving us so many diffrent characters everyone can find somthing that they like

I just hope that we will get the same squadmates in ME 3 ,

not new one or another stupid 3 minutes cameo

Exactly what I was thinking...they needed a squad for the suicide mission that was expendable,,,they also used them to create a possible cheating scenario with your LI...if they survive...at best they'll get a cameo. The fact that the devs have said that the love story is an arc makes me feel that the romance may play a larger role in ME3.

The fact that they at least gave us a scene with Kaidan's pic at the end tells me that it isn't over and the devs have something planned.

He was awesome as a squadmate...For a while I had problems with him but once I found out that getting him better armor(I would always give him new armor even before Femshep) was the key I used him every time(not that I wasn't using him already but it improved after that). If you focused on his biotics and put him Liara as a team mate they were absolutely unstoppable.

Shaunarz I love your sig
