I've finally finished the game. This thread has been so tantalizing, but I didn't want anything spoiled.

Shout to Lady Winde: Your Kaidan art is awesome. I've been loving your stuff ever since Carth Onasi.

I'm a rabid Carth Onasi fangirl. I was fangirling it up on the old BioBoards like no one's business. I was ecstatic when I heard that the same VA would be voicing Kaidan.

However, I found Kaidan kind of vanilla in ME1. I liked him and I liked the romance and its tastefully racy love scene, but I was thinking that if there was someone interesting in ME2, my Shep might just go for it. Then she ran into Kaidan on Horizon and everything changed.

I really admired his reaction. I loved that he stood up to her like he did. It was obvious he was madly in love with her still, so for him to reject her because she was working for Cerberus really says a lot about his character, IMO. I could not blame him at all for it either. Shep knows what Cerberus is. She saw plenty of proof in ME1, and then when I did missions like Jack's quest in ME2, it just drove it home even more. Miranda and TIM are very, very good at rationalizing but, no matter what they say, Cerberus is an evil corporation. I think that, were my Shep in Kaidan's shoes, she would have walked away from him.

So, yeah, it probably goes without saying that my Shep was faithful for the entire game. I didn't find any of the other options all that tempting anyway. I love Garrus like a bro. Jacob was mildly interesting, but that was mainly because he's the other human option. As much as I like the alien races in ME, my Shep is not at all into the interspecies relationship thing.

As for the e-mail, I loved it. It distracted me from my intentions of finally finishing my KotOR fanfic and made me write some ME fanfic. I think Kaidan mentions the doctor just because he's showing Shep that he tried to move on and failed epically. I think the drinks was just that, drinks. I don't think any woman could ever compare to Shep for him, and I think that, in all likelihood, he immediately tossed the doc aside as soon as he knew Shep was alive.

The whole encounter on Horizon served to make my Shep more focused. From that moment on, she was determined to not only save the universe (as usual), but to show Kaidan that he was totally, 100% wrong about her involvement with Cerberus. My Shep took great joy in cutting TIM off at the end of the game. She was only working for Cerberus because they were a means to an end for her. She didn't feel the slightest smidgen of loyalty to them. She didn't ask them to rebuild her, but since they did, she was going to grab hold of her second chance and live her life just as she'd always intended.

I really, really want Kaidan back in ME3. And I really, really want her to be able to have lots and lots of makeup sessions with Kaidan. I think they both deserve it.

Oh, and an observation here: if you have Shep talk to Grunt, they have a convo where he talks about wanting to kill things (of course) and she can tell him that she doesn't intend to live this way forever. That made me feel that she definitely wants to settle down someday.

Serious question I don't mean this as a flame/troll thing, but I was wondering if Kaidan fans are/were drawn to Carth Onassi in KOTOR.? Wondering if it was a VA thing?

BTW I actually like Kaidan...

LOVE Kaidan
HATE Carth
Carth is to my Jedi what Navi was to Link - soooo damn annoying

Never played KOTOR...just flat out liked Kaidan from the start...looks personality...he was perfect for me. Liked Sbarge as the VA as well.

I never played KOTR.

I think it's a split. I've seen quite a few Kaidan fans that loved both and still others that hated Carth and loved Kaidan.

Proof positive that he has a backbone and isn't wishy washy like Kaidan haters like to say.

Yeah, I got that impression when she was talking too...made me feel like Kaidan was on her mind(since he was my Femshep's LI.) I hope they go the marriage route at the end...With the heartbreak that was in this one...I really need to see a happy ending.

I'm a massive Carth fan and at first I found th VA thong a little off putting but I liked Kaidan's character and once he started to develop in his own right it just became Kaidan's voice, it didn't take long, by the half smile after Eden Prime I was hooked!

Now I like them both very much, they just happen to have the same sexy voice :-)

Concerning Carth : Loved him. Sbarge is great but I just loved the Carth character despite the emotional baggage, it didn't bother me one bit. I love romances where I don't have to handwalk the guy through the entire relationship.
Take Alistair from DA for example, loved his VA, loved his humor, his appearance etc etc but absolutely dreaded the whole "there, there, I know you're hurting over loosing Duncan and all your fellow Grey Wardens." over and over again and my warden was a Cousland who experienced just as much loss. Where was her friggin shoulder to cry on? *sighs*

I too need a happy ending, especially after playing through both ME2 and Dragon Age. And please, don't give me the lovescene before the storm thing again. Give the more intimate moment to us earlier in the game and follow it up with more depth instead of ending the whole story all together. I mean what signal are you giving by saying sex is the ultimate reward in a relationship but hey the guy will never speak to you, touch you or acknowledge your relationship ever again.

I would love to see bodylanguage/contact between Kaidan and Shepard like the hug they shared on Horizon. I just didn't select any dialogue option on the wheel just to stare at them for a while...so satisfying :) But the way they handled the romances in ME2 with the holding hands, touching someone's cheek or shoulder etc gives me hope we might just see that in ME3 with Kaidan.

I know people whine because Carth had trust issues.. but really... could you blame the guy? That was a lot to dump on the poor guy.... planet is attacked... wife is dead... son is a sith.... his lover/best friend is a reprogammed sith...

Ok... Kaiden had the whole BAAt thing.... but still... he rose over those issues... and I really think its cool that he moved on with his past and began expressing interest in Shep :)

Hoping a marriage on the Flotilla is possible....

Carth and Kaidan are pretty different, beyond the voices.

I didn't *hate* Carth, but I didn't like him very much when I first played KOTOR, and I've never "completed" the romance with him.  I couldn't stand his backstory (and I'm not too fond of it being recycled for Thane), and I thought the relationship between femRevan and Bastilla was far more interesting than Carth's with her.

Kaidan was the first computer game romance I actually liked and played out.  Love the voice actor, and I had no prejudice because of my dislike for Carth going in...but it was definitely a pleasant surprise to find that Kaidan was well adjusted and not a jerk.

I can't imagine Kaidan being a PDA kind of guy.

The fact that the squad was watching completely blank-faced was rather awkward lol

I actually prefer the hug.  There is a pause, a moment of meaningful eye contact and then the long lingering hug.  It speaks volumes more than the rest of their conversation did.

As for Garrus, when I took him to Horizon to meet Ash he did have a "Dammit, Williams!" moment that I kind of enjoyed.

:crying:  And then the heart stomping happened.

Yeah, you get the same Dammit Kaidan thing if the LI is Kaidan...I don't remember Kaidan addressing Garrus though.

I like the hug too. I felt it had a lot of impact. Sure, I wouldn't have minded a kiss, but the lingering hug gave me that impression that they were hanging onto one another for dear life, like they were falling into one another. That made it all the sadder when Kaidan broke away from her and started to berate her.

In my mind, Shep is the sort of woman who is really good at playing a military role. She swaggers like the bad boys and exudes so much confidence that she's almost cocky. While I do see my Shep as actually being confident, I also think a lot of what she does and says is a front. I think she feels she needs to be strong for her team, so she doesn't let anyone see her inner turmoil. Cue Kaidan. I really loved in ME1 how he came to her after she sacrificed Ashley. It made me feel like he was very in tune with her, that he could see through her facade and knew that she was really hurting inside.

Same complaint here...he drove me up the wall whining about Duncan...how long had he even known the guy anyway. He was a pretty good LI except for that, but he was no Kaidan.

He acknowledges Garrus - when he says to you, "you're with Cerberus now... Garrus too"  then later Garrus gives him the "Dammit Kaidan" thing.

I think you can't get Tali's dossier until after Horizon, unless I missed some dialogue option that would have changed things.  I wish we could have had Tali there, it would have been interesting to hear her interact with Kaidan or Ashley.

About Carth Onasi, I fell in love with the voice actor, or the voice, but Carth over the course of the game started to get on my nerves eventually and now I don't like him at all.

Kaiden is a different beast, again love the voice, totally melt worthy, at first I thought Kaiden was a cutie, then he got annoying until right after Virmire and he went to comfort Shepard, then I was disapointed with Shepard's dialogue again, but after that scene I liked him again.

The whole Horizon thing and this discussion has made me totally love him though, Shepard needs someone who can tune in to her but she also needs someone with strong convictions, my Shepard is a strong paragon and wasn't working for Cerberus because she wanted to. So while she was angry after Horizon and flirted a bit she realized she didn't want to go that route just now, and before the suicide Mission she hoped she could keep Kaidan's wish, not to die, again and come back to him (and the Alliance, TIM can go die in a fire, or two).

I've been lurking long enough in this thread, so it's about time for me to throw in my support for Kaidan!  Like a lot of you, I was a little upset by the Horizon encounter in ME2, but the email really made up for it.  I think that some conflict in the middle makes the resolution more satisfying, and I'm hoping for a VERY satisfying resolution in ME3. ;)

Oh and I am a definite Carth fan.  In fact, I was initially drawn to Mass Effect because Sbarge voiced one of the chracters.  Needless to say, Kaidan did not disappoint!

I love Kaidan and not even once i thought about Carth while playing ME 1

Carth was rather neutral for me didn't like, didn't hate

But know i started playing KOTOR again just to hear that voice
