Shout to Lady Winde: Your Kaidan art is awesome. I've been loving your stuff ever since Carth Onasi.
I'm a rabid Carth Onasi fangirl. I was fangirling it up on the old BioBoards like no one's business. I was ecstatic when I heard that the same VA would be voicing Kaidan.
However, I found Kaidan kind of vanilla in ME1. I liked him and I liked the romance and its tastefully racy love scene, but I was thinking that if there was someone interesting in ME2, my Shep might just go for it. Then she ran into Kaidan on Horizon and everything changed.
I really admired his reaction. I loved that he stood up to her like he did. It was obvious he was madly in love with her still, so for him to reject her because she was working for Cerberus really says a lot about his character, IMO. I could not blame him at all for it either. Shep knows what Cerberus is. She saw plenty of proof in ME1, and then when I did missions like Jack's quest in ME2, it just drove it home even more. Miranda and TIM are very, very good at rationalizing but, no matter what they say, Cerberus is an evil corporation. I think that, were my Shep in Kaidan's shoes, she would have walked away from him.
So, yeah, it probably goes without saying that my Shep was faithful for the entire game. I didn't find any of the other options all that tempting anyway. I love Garrus like a bro. Jacob was mildly interesting, but that was mainly because he's the other human option. As much as I like the alien races in ME, my Shep is not at all into the interspecies relationship thing.
As for the e-mail, I loved it. It distracted me from my intentions of finally finishing my KotOR fanfic and made me write some ME fanfic. I think Kaidan mentions the doctor just because he's showing Shep that he tried to move on and failed epically. I think the drinks was just that, drinks. I don't think any woman could ever compare to Shep for him, and I think that, in all likelihood, he immediately tossed the doc aside as soon as he knew Shep was alive.
The whole encounter on Horizon served to make my Shep more focused. From that moment on, she was determined to not only save the universe (as usual), but to show Kaidan that he was totally, 100% wrong about her involvement with Cerberus. My Shep took great joy in cutting TIM off at the end of the game. She was only working for Cerberus because they were a means to an end for her. She didn't feel the slightest smidgen of loyalty to them. She didn't ask them to rebuild her, but since they did, she was going to grab hold of her second chance and live her life just as she'd always intended.
I really, really want Kaidan back in ME3. And I really, really want her to be able to have lots and lots of makeup sessions with Kaidan. I think they both deserve it.
Oh, and an observation here: if you have Shep talk to Grunt, they have a convo where he talks about wanting to kill things (of course) and she can tell him that she doesn't intend to live this way forever. That made me feel that she definitely wants to settle down someday.
