I was disappointed about his role in ME2. The scene fealt kinda rushed. I really do hope that he does come back in ME3 with full force...I remember reading that from somewhere.
What I would like to see in ME3 (or even more hopefully: in an expansion/DLC) is to him really loosen up and be more open about his love for Shepard. He is a Commander now, he can't just stand behind her back all the time. I'd really like to see him go berserk at a bad guy or punch someone who makes sexual advances towards Shepard like Harking did in ME1 (Chora's Den).

So yeah, they made my choice, which I had made even before the game came out, really easy to stick to. Thanks, writers, I guess...

My femshep romanced Kaiden, and then stayed loyal in ME2.
Especially after the whole love scene thing before Ilos, it was a bit odd to see him removed from the game.
Time and time again in ME2 it seems that the whole Cerberus and the 2 year clinical death was just a cheap way to start a stand alone story. I didn't like their choice! (I want my ME1 scars back too!
And the fact that Shepard turns from a serious, yet charming military personality into somebody that is ready to jump anyone that winks at her twice didn't do it for me either. It was annoying to have to dodge the flirt options all the time.
Is it not possible to express genuine friendly interest in your crew without wanting to start a male-harem?

It's about how Ashley is better than Kaidan, based on the e-mails, but it's also a pretty good discussion between those who think Kai/Ash should have jumped right on board the Cerberus ship and those who think Kai/Ash had plenty of good reasons not to do so.
As for the Kaidan bashing, I think it's just the same old, same old. I think a lot of men miss the point that woman like nice, honest men. To them, any man who expresses any sort of vulnerability is whining. Well, they can take their macho attitude and stow it where the sun don't shine, for all I care. I prefer men who are more in tune with their feelings and who don't have a problem being vulnerable in a relationship. I think Kaidan fits this bill to a T. He's not only handsome, he's strong, has his own moral code, and is there for Shep when she needs him. What woman wouldn't want a man like that?

I'm a man, who is heterosexual, played a female custom shepard and romanced Kaiden (as said above.)
I don't identify with characters in a game, I see myself more as an observer. And Kaiden realy seemed to care for Shepard. Their private dialogs are a realy good bonding experience if I ever saw one. He was the natural choice based on dialogs and personality.

The kind of women that aren't passed their "bad boy" fad? Sorry....had to say that.
Seriously though, I've played my Shep nearly 100% paragon the whole time, only resulting into renegade options when it seemed that a situation would endanger my mission (like kicking a guard off of a tower
My Shep and Kaidan are just simply so much alike that it makes sense. I even found the angry-Kaidan part a bit funny. They can have a fight but still care for each other. It's normal.
With the others it's like..."I'm more interested in just talking for a bit..." "Oh rly, we iz have sex nao?" even with Garrus the whole things takes a very tacky turn from a pained, guilt-feeling Turian to talking about "releaving stress".
Urgh.

Thane perhaps not so much, but not sure where Bioware was going with him when they wrote him. For some reason they seem to believe female gamers prefer the assassin types, perhaps NwN2's Bishop fueled it with the large fanbase he got.
But hey, never understood that either since I'm a Casavir type of woman anyway. Which is most likely why Kaidan pushes my buttons in the right way. His character compliments Shepard ever so nicely without it being forced and awkward.
Having manners, a strong sense of duty and a solid moral compass does not make one boring. I really miss having such a character onboard in ME2, but with the responses after ME1, I can't really blame Bioware.

And I think I can say with confidence that no one really likes Jacob as a romance option. Garrus is cool, but femSheps have no choice but to sound really inappropriate when offering to "blow off steam" with him. I don't know about anyone else, but if a friend is talking about past conquests, I don't automatically take it as an invitation to offer to have sex.
So yeah, they made my choice, which I had made even before the game came out, really easy to stick to. Thanks, writers, I guess...
In some of the dev comments they kept comparing Shep(thinking maleshep here) to Captain Kirk regarding female conquests...the thing with Jacob and the way Femshep addresses him makes me think that was their attempt to make a Femshep version. Utterly fails in my opinion.

Y'know, even during my "bad boy" fad, I liked the bad boys that were romantic and committed - despite their bad boyness.
I think Kaidan is a little bit dangerous, look at what he did to Vyrnus (sp?) but he's a nice guy to boot and the fact that he fears his own power that makes him that bit more endearing.
There's a bit more mystique about him, in there you're never quite sure exactly what he's saying, he says more with his expressions than he does with actual words.
He's just awesome in every way

Seriously though, I've played my Shep nearly 100% paragon the whole time, only resulting into renegade options when it seemed that a situation would endanger my mission (like kicking a guard off of a tower). A woman with noble and stable manner as such, wouldn't in her sane mind, go for an alien that is reckless and a bit unpredictable (Garrus), dying and talking about his dead wife (Thane) or a human who works for Cerberus and has this condesending, ass kisser attitude.
My Shep and Kaidan are just simply so much alike that it makes sense. I even found the angry-Kaidan part a bit funny. They can have a fight but still care for each other. It's normal.

/agree.
It seems the extremely shallow "romance" thing in ME2 had more to do with EA-driven sales expectations than actual Bioware writing prowess, wich we have all seen in ME1. It's a step backwards.

I thought that Kaidan hater guy(for those of you who know who I'm talking about) said he avoided those kind of threads...but there he is again. And what do you know...he's talking Tali again. I hope it doesn't go too bad...Kaidan and Ash(as well as Liara)fans need to stand together.
Maybe some guys see how much women like Kaidan and know they can't be that kind of guy and they hate him because they're jealous. Men are competitive creatures.

I think that has alot to do with things. Silly boys don't like feeling that they have to measure up to someone like Kaidan.

I know, I really like Tali but I can totally see why some people get put off, if one more person says, 'well Tali did this, Tali did that, blah .... blah .... blah'
Let's just say I will not be a happy bunny and it will take more than a shirtless Kaidan to take me back o my happy place

As a man I think it's also the way he stares into the camera that may trigger homophobic reactions. Doesn't bother me personally but I think that has something to do with it.

The way I see all the Kaidan hate is this... A lot of dudes define their masculinity by how loud they are and how many shoving matches they don't back down from. It's not a very good definition, but it's the one a lot of young men (i.e. the majority of the gamer demographic) have.
I look around my section at work and it's very obvious. We have this one cat who has been demoted twice, spent months on remedial pt, and is the absolutely loudest person when it comes to how cool he is. (how cool he is should sound like Joker's "what a tool he was.") On the other hand, one of the older guys we've got is a martial arts instructor, combat swim instructor, and HRST master (dudes who make sure when you fast rope out of a helicopter you don't die.) I would have never known if it hadn't come up at a training meeting.
It's not a slam against young men, it just takes them awhile to learn these lessons. Sometimes it takes getting knocked on you ****, sometimes it just takes a few years experience.
And oh yeah, totally agree about the femshep coming on to everyone. So annoying. I was telling one of my friends who hadn't bought the game back to be careful going all paragon responses. It was getting ridiculous for awhile. I was like, seriously people. I know this isn't an Alliance ship but there will be no crew orgies and that's final!
