I for one am glad that we couldn't talk our way out of anything on Horizon. How boring is that? There always seems to be SOME way for Shepard to say just the right thing to people to get them to agree with him or stand down or whatever etc. Shepard couldn't do that here with Ash or Kaidan and I love that. In fact, Shepard seemed a little at a loss for how to deal with the situation, which added to Shepard's humanity I think.

These two crazy kids both handled it poorly, which I thorougly enjoyed (and hated).

So I haven't been on these boards long (Wynde uninteniontally directed my here w/ a link on dA), but I am very curious as to how Tali got such a following. In ME1 I used her maybe twice, she didn't make much of an impression on me. Anyone else come across that?

Also, it's odd that one of the reasons Kaidan is disliked is b/c they don't think he is a "manly man"...I suppose a biotic kick resulting in a snapped neck is wimpy.

I never cared much for her either, the conversations about quarian culture were interesting when I went down to visit her, but I never used her on my team.  I have no idea how she gained such a huge following in ME1.  She was pretty funny and had some cute interactions with my femShep in ME2, but she still comes off as very young and innocent.  Not what I would find attractive in a love interest...but I suspect she wasn't designed with me in mind.

Kaidan hate usually comes from the people who only like male characters like Wrex or Sten from DA:O; stoic, badass types who don't "share" their feelings and are consumate warriors.  Not that there's anything wrong with characters like that, but I really appreciate including "sensitive" guys who have emotions too.

The only "hate" comment that really gets to me is when people accuse Kaidan of being whiny, because it's clear that they didn't actually listen to his dialogue at all in the first game.  He never whined about his past, he told Shepard his story about BAat because he was concerned about Shepard's dealings with aliens.  He might come off as "preachy" to some people, but he was not whining.  And the Carth comparisons are just silly.  Are voice actors required to play one character only and never get work again???

By the way, it's really nice to see all the new faces in this thread.  Welcome, pull up a seat and stay a while, we're all pretty chill here, and we have shirtless Kaidan pic parties every few pages!  Posted Image

One last parting shot before my meritourous superbowl half day is over and I have to go to work...I mean switch to my  iphone.

Anyone ever hear Journey's Remember Me?  Me thinks it would make an epic song for a tribute movie.  Just food for though if anyone out there is good with that stuff.

This, at the time I was baying for blood but now I actually think it was really well done, ane hell it certainly got an emotional response.  I still think an e-mail saying 'I have to see you' from Kaidan or the ability for Shep to send one would have been nice.

I think the people who hate Kaidan are the same people who hate Alistair from DA. I think too many people who play these games are young males and they don't yet understand what women want in a man (virtual or real). I am glad Bioware includes sweet, sensitive men who can still kick butt as LI option.

I don't understand this thread, Kaidan died on Virmire, and he died a hero, with out his sacrifice I couldn't have stopped Saren.

Tali and Garrus were my least used characters in ME. Tali always seemed kinda snippy. Even in ME2 when you do her loyalty quest don't ask the question about why can't her people just settle on another planet instead of trying to take their planet back from the Geth. Felt like she bit my head off.

As for the Tali following...one of the earlier polls on the forums had the age range of Tali lovers from 17 to 25 (I'm assuming mostly male)...the largest percentage 20 to 23. After 25 it dropped off considerably.

I may be stereotyping but after reading a lot of the Tali threads...they seem immature...my thoughts are that it's nothing but raging hormones...they don't even see her face...they're just looking at the body. That may be crass of me, but I can't help but think it. I really don't think they're in it for a real serious gaming romance.

I would also bet that other forums don't have as much Tali love. I used to post regularly on the Fuselage for Lost and the number of fans for the different characters were pretty much even there....but if you went to the Lost forums the only characters that were even acknowledged there by the posters were Jack, Sawyer, and Kate.

I think it all started with the Want What You Cannot Have attitude. People jumping on the squadmates that aren't available. Add to that the mystery of not knowing what Tali looks like and it tickles the imagination (not for me mind you). Bioware then added a romance but kept the mystery going, leaving fans unsatisfied and thus even more eager. I do believe that if they had shown Tali's face in ME2, half the Tali crowd would have had their fantasies destroyed because after seeing how people responded to Miranda (stating she was ugly)....well you know where I'm going.

Which again is why I love Kaidan, we know exactly what we have....mmhmmm.

He wasn't whiny.  He never complained about anything, including his past, he just explained it to you.  He was levelheaded, thoughtful (his comments after missions were useful) and not bigoted.  He was also far more useful in a fight than Ashley, in my opinion.  Nothing much that Ashley could do that Wrex couldn't do better, while Kaidan was both a biotic and a tech.

And, actually, Wrex complained more than Kaiden did.  Lots of whining about the genophage and his past.  I don't mind it, entirely understandable, but it's a fact.

Kaidan wasn't my love interest (Liara all the way, every time, couldn't make myself romance anyone else) but he was my best friend on the ship, every run.  I liked him, and I trusted him and his complete calm, no matter how bad the situation, made him feel rock solid to me.  And Ash got Virmired every run but one: Kaiden was far more valuable (a powerful biotic and a tech specialist to boot) than Ashley.  It's harsh, but it's true.

As good and as realistic as the Kaidan thing on Horizon was...I also was feeling unsatisfied...hopefully if enough people feel that way they will become even more rabid to have him back and it'll show up in the forums(Bioware take note).

The unveiling Tali's face threads are the funniest thing on the boards...the one where she turns out to look just like Shep makes me laugh everytime.

I've worked extensively with adolescent males, and I can tell you that I'd guess a lot of the nasty and inappropriate behavior that goes on in the forums is coming from them. They're at that age where their hormones rule, not their heads, and they say and do things that they will seriously regret twenty years down the line. Guys at that age seem to value acting like a total jerk over being mature and kind.

I'm in my 30s and, though the bad boy never appealed to me, I'm definitely at a point in my life where I want someone more mature and levelheaded. That does not mean that he can't be passionate. I don't see these things as mutually exclusive. If BioWare wrote romanceable males who were jerks and homicidal maniacs, I'd stop playing their games. I couldn't be any less interested in that type of male. I do like a sarcastic sense of humor, though, and I am very entertained by the males who crack wise (Carth and Alistair, for example).

The thing that really got me about what happened on Horizon was that it made me feel that my Shep would be more conscious than ever about just where she's at. I explore this a bit in my fic. I imagine her feeling guilty about having sacrificed Ashley (who I did like as a character), being resentful of the fact that she's working for Cerberus, and nursing some hurt feelings at having been cut out of the Alliance. I mean, when you think of how much Anderson stuck his neck out for her in the first, helping her to hijack the Normandy and all, his refusal to tell her anything about Kaidan's whereabouts is kind of a slap in the face.

As soon as I got the email I immediatly started looking for a way to send a reply, lol.  Sadly Shep doesn't have that capability on the new Normandy.  My second thought was to hunt down the doctor on the Citadel & give her a friendly warning with my missile launcher.  I can't say I was sorry to see Lilith's fate - she seemed a bit too friendly with Kaidan.  I think my Shep spent as much time in her cabin staring at Kaidans pic & re-reading his email as she did fighting

One of the questions I have though is why the hell does Anderson have a pic of Kaidan on his desk - is there something Shep should know?

Also it doesn't come across that there was much continuence with the relationship after the "night before Ilos".  C'mon, they were on the Normandy for a couple of months together before it got destroyed - Shep would have found all sorts of reasons for Kaidan to see her in her cabin, without his shirt of course.

The romance options in ME2 left it quite easy for my Shep to stay true to Kaidan.  Garrus is like her little brother, Thane just doesn't appeal, & Jacob, no thanks. (he lost me when he made the comment about Miranda needing a better man than he is - why the hell should Shep take him then?)

See, I understood the whole "night before Ilos" comment. It's against regulations for them to be together. The night before Ilos was different. I have a feeling that where they both wanted to have more alone time, that nothing of the sort would happen while aboard the Normandy. They would wait for some shore leave at least.

I don't think they got a chance for any shore leave after saving the Citadel and before the Normandy was destroyed.

That's how I imagined it worked out in the month before the game starts -- they were still making plans to be together, but didn't want to be intimate on board the Normandy, to keep things professional.

Ultimately the game had to separate them, at least temporarily, so they could contrive a way for Kaidan (or Ashley) and Shepard to be together without violating regs or sneaking around.  I just wish the separation wasn't so long for us.  Posted Image
