I'm hoping we have a choice as to who we can recruit in ME 3.  A set up where if you recruit character A. character C will not join up would be great.

In your opinion, we do however agree on one thing, I don't want to have to include psycho's like Jack in my party whereas I would glady welcome back Kaidan/Ash/Liara.  I think the key to making everyone happy is choice.

I'd take Jack over Kaidan, with her enhanced biotics and L5 implant.  Do you think they'll upgrade Kaidan from his L2 or is that to central to his character?

I can't approve of either the Ashley or Kaidan romances.  It's highly unethical to become involved with a jr. officer or NCO under your command.  I was very unhappy about that aspect of ME 1.

I hope they leave him with his L2 implant. I think it's important to him, and he has resoundingly refused upgrades in the past. I don't see him changing his mind unless he was forced to (like it was going to explode his brain).

I know for me the whole "inappropriate" part of the romance is what I like. Both Kaidan and Shep know that they shouldn't be flirting, and they shouldn't get involved, but the fact that they do shows a much more human side. Regs be damned! Posted Image

It's not really about the regs, it's about getting involved in a relationship with a subordinate while being in a strict power hierarchy.  It’s like dating your admin assistant or an intern with less HR protection for them.

It is also bad for ship morale and general discipline.

So Liara is my ME1 LI each play through. I was really happy with the new choices in ME 2.

So are you going to link us the posts you made in the Ashley Williams thread calling her a rabid xenophobe and making this same argument, or should I just assume I was right about you being an insecure troll?

I hope he gets an upgrade. You'd think it'd be possible to do so, considering Shepard was able to be ressurected.

Well I think hijacking the Normandy and going against Council orders might just be a bit worse, so fraternization might as well be added to the mess ;)

I won't argue that it isn't inappropriate and wrong for the CO of a ship to become involved with any subordinate. It's wrong, and both Kaidan and Shep acknowledge that. Even in the mail post-Horizon in game, Kaidan eludes to the fact that they only ever had that night before Ilos. I know that personally my Shep is torn over her feelings for Kaidan because she knows that part of her decision on Virmire was due in part to the fact that she felt something more for Kaidan.

I however like flawed romances. It's much more realistic for me. The characters become more real.

So are you making this argument in the Ashley Williams Support thread also, or do you think it's easier to troll this thread, where the participants are predominantly women?  Just curious.

Seriously, as Kaidan fans, we're very used to haters.  We know you think he's whiny/wimpy/gay/Carth/a threat to your masculinity just by being a male character.  Coming into the Kaidan Support thread just to reiterate this isn't edgy or special.

So, in conclusion,

Kaidan's backside thanks you for the bumps!!!

TeenZombie you rock!  Nothing like Kai Kai's bootie to wake you up in the morning...except for maybe shirtless Kaidan.

ETA: and what do you know there he is in another post.

In fact it's my belief that both were trying, albeit unsuccessfully, up to that point to not get involved because of the regs against it.

It was this part in the game, where they realise there are bigger things that are at stake and it's prob all irrelevant in the grand scheme as they could get court martialed anyhow, so if they care for each other, which they obviously do they might as well have a moment of happiness b4 the sh*t hits and all that.

So unprofessional or not, Shep wouldn't have got where she is by doing things strictly by the book, I can't condem one decision without doing the same to the other.

Just had to jump in on the breaking the regs thread. Kaidan and Shep discuss the fact that they are but, as others have said, Shep is not a by-the-book kind of officer anyway. Exactly how many regs did s/he break throughout the course of the game? :P

I'm not diminishing the importance of the chain of command. I have no personal knowledge of the military, but I completely understand why fraternization is against the rules. However, that doesn't mean that it doesn't happen. Many people make stupid and/or dangerous choices when they're in love. I didn't find it at all unrealistic for Kai/Ash to fall for Shep or for them to act on those feelings. Given the heightened situation they were in and the high likelihood that they were going to die, and I don't see why they wouldn't act out on those feelings. In fact, it annoys me when games don't give you this option. I mean, speaking from my own personal viewpoint, if I was pretty sure I was going to die, I'd probably go out and break all kinds of rules I wouldn't normally break.

As for whether or not they carry on later, well, the game implies it's a one-night thing. My personal belief is that Shep will not be Alliance in ME3, which means there will be no regs against him/her getting back together with Kai/Ash. In my fanfic, I wrote that Shep and Kai had more than just one night together, and I stand by that. They both know full well that they're breaking the rules, but they're unapologetic about it. It's a choice that they've made and they are aware of the consequences of their actions.

I too think it was more than one night, I think the reference of remember that night on Ilos wasn't because it was the only one but rather it was special because it was the first and under the most unique set of circumstances.  I don't necessarily think they were at it like bunnies (although I know I would be!) but I think there would have been many intimate moments both involving and not involving actual sex, in the month b4 the attack I think they would have become very very close hence Kaidan's struggle to get over her death and his reaction on Horizon.

Becc - Do we need to repost the shirtless Kaidan pic again for you? LOL

SweetiePea - I completely agree (but my Shep and Kaidan only had the one night so far). Love makes us crazy and irrational, and in an impossible situation, who wouldn't give into temptation?

The only thing that held back my Shep from more than that one night is that she is trying to live up to this ideal that was created of her back when she saved Elysium. She doesn't normally break the rules, and where she desperately wants to with Kaidan, she doesn't feel she can cave to her passions.

You know I'm thinking they probably got a week or two of shore leave or something right after the defeat of Seren, I'm not too keen on believing that after all the Normandy crew went through they'd immediately be thrown back to hunting geth, didn't they deserve a break? I think so!

As for the night before Ilos reference, to me it's a typical guy thing to hyper focus on the pivitol moment of when the relationship turned into their "yes I am in love" moment. If I ask my husband what he remembers the most about the last 10 years we've had together he only really remembers those firsts and peak moments, everything else is a pleasant haze. I can recall many things in startling clarity, but when I ask 'remember when?' he's like: "Oh right!!! Right....."

Well, I saved the Council on my playthrough. I'm not sure after the devestation of the fleets that they could afford to give much shore leave to anyone (not even the Normandy). At least not in my version of the story. If I ever get my thoughts unmuddied enough to write these stories, I'll sharez.
